I had my surgery on January 3rd. Because our stomach swells after the surgery, the first 1-2 weeks tend to make it difficult to get in the liquids then Protein shakes needed. The doctors/nurses know this. Just take small sips all day long to keep you hydrated. This will pass. As the swelling goes down, your stomach will accept more liquids and then soft foods.

Be a loud advocate for yourself. Call and pester them until someone helps you. Same applies when you're in the hospital. Keep on top of making sure you get your meds when needed. If you have to be a bitch, be one. You deserve the best. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

My sleeve surgery is Tuesday, the 20th. I'll be the first surgery, so I'm happy about that. I have lymphedema and overweight, so I am doubly excited for the surgery to be behind me and the changes to begin. I look forward to having less swelling and less pain, especially in my legs. I look forward to being able to be anything but sedentary. My only nervousness is with the fact that I'm on my own. I have a friend dropping me off on Tuesday and a co-worker picking me up from the hospital on Thursday and dropping me home. I'm a grown, independent woman, but I do wish I wasn't totally alone. My parents cannot travel any longer; my sister will be on a cruise; and, my son has his own family to care for. Has anyone else gone it alone?

@@Powells95 I was confused about the gas strips too. I was told we could have ginger ale if we let it go flat before we drink it.

I had a chest cold about a month before my surgery and my cough still lingers. Use your binder if you have one but also hold a pillow a bit tight over your stomach when you cough and it help tremendously!! Good luck with everything

Scheduled for 12/20. I had a cold two weeks ago. For the past 3 days, I have a dry cough (similar to how my bronchitis started). Is this going to be an issue?

Definitely stop taking the diuretic, and continue eating the foods high in potassium. Mine was low for the same reason, and the morning of my surgery they delayed me and gave me two potassium drips to get it up to surgery levels in order to continue. My discharge instructions they took me off the diuretic. Keep following their orders. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
