BRING A BACK SCRATCHER!!! You can't bend or twist if you have an itch very easily. Best thing I brought was an extendable back scratcher. Good luck!

Every time I got on the digital scale at my surgeon's office it was always 10-15 pounds heavier than my digital scale at home.
At my 1 month post-op I was 398 pounds on my home scale and the same day at the surgeon's office they insisted that I was 412!
They insisted their scale was right. Well, today I had my 3 month post-op appointment and I brought my digital scale from home.
My scale said I was 360. Their scale said I was 360. Then they told me they recently had their scales calibrated because they were inaccurate.
HA! I WAS RIGHT! I AM VINDICATED!!!!
I just wanted to post this and vent.
    Thanks.

Well "average" for your weight and height would be a loss of 73lbs. Their calculations assume no loss of muscle which is unrealistic as well because we all will lose muscle as well as fat. I'm no longer carrying around 70lbs, my body just doesn't have to work as hard. If you could just zap all the fat off, we'd all look pretty cut!

Yeah, I'd just keep going on your plan. THe thing is nobody really knows until you get closer. I have a goal weight but I view it as essentially random. I have no idea what I will look and feel like at these lower numbers. I have an idea of what I want but until I'm closer I will have no idea what is reasonable and healthy for ME.

Maybe miscommunication on their part? 25-40 in the first few weeks/months...?? Sounds more like it, right? I'm 5'6" and I'm pretty muscular too, but my pre-obese days, I was 155ish. I've been overweight about 8 years too, almost the same amount of time as you. That's about 100lbs to take off for me. You're only an inch taller than me and if you've got good muscle mass, then for sure, you should be dropping 90lbs to your goal weight. Try not to be bummed hon, I think they were wrong too.

I'm right there with you. I had my sleeve done Monday. I'm not really hungry but it's super bowl Sunday and I'm sipping Water and broth. Not a beer, no wings... I'm a total crab today. However, I stuck to it and I know it will get better. Im glad to know I'm not the only one feeing this way. Addiction is right, and it is a sonofabitch!

I am less than 24 hours out of surgery, still in the hospital obviously, and I just want everyone to know the best thing I brought was a retractable back scratcher. You can't twist and turn if you have an itch. The leg compressors also make you itch and you can't just reach down and scratch, so bring a back scratcher! Good luck everyone. Here is to living long happy and healthy!

A lot of my pain subsided pretty quickly like very quickly . I had surgery on Thursday (5 days ago).
I slept Thursday away pain free for the most part , OR maybe I just can't remember it lol. , next day was Friday, I had pain at times (not around the clock pain tho). They were VERY good at getting pain meds in on time.
I could have left Friday night but I still had nausea from time to time ( I've been like that for years with other surgery so nothing with sleeve). I live almost 2 hrs a way so I didn't wanna chance it. Left early on Saturday and have been doing pretty good now. Only home issues is not being comfortable in bed where the drain tube use to be and getting use to the gurgle sounds when you swallow. I swear there's a lion and a Tiger in my throat and gut roaring at each other. Lol Good luck to you and keep us informed.

Ok, so this is good to talk about.
First, did your doctor explain to you about how swollen your abdomen is going to be? The body is healing, you are only 7 days post op. Right now your stomach and body are still in shock, in the early stages of healing. Your body doesn't want to drop weight right now, it wants to heal. So give yourself time. Most of us didn't lose in that first week or two post surgery and then it drops like a stone.
Second, vomiting what you eat. If it's just a one time thing that's ok but if it's happening a lot you need to call your surgeon's office. But what my doctor said is this: Try the pureed (or whatever stage I'm moving to) food, if you get sick, if you have discomfort swallowing or in your new tummy, just go back to liquid (or the previous stage you are moving on from) for a day or two and then try again.
Our stomachs are brand new now, neither your body or it knows whats happening. This is a learning time for you and for your body.
Third, depression. One of the most interesting things I learned here is that with rapid weight loss comes a flood of hormones for women. Add into that the life changing body alteration we made to ourselves, the fact we can't use food to soothe our emotions and we have totally changed the fundamental way we live, it's no surprise some of us experience bouts of depression in the first 1-8 weeks post op. Personally? I cried from week 4 to week 5, pretty much straight through except when I was at work trying to keep myself together. lol!
Fourth, feeling like a failure. OMG NO!! We are rockstars!! Someone said the other day they were told that each incision point is like getting stabbed. Most of us come out with 5-6 so not only are we freaking bad asses for being willing to remove 80% of our stomachs but we also got shiv'ed half a dozen times in the process! lol! You are only 7 days into an entirely new way of living, you are not a failure, you are a beginner. Your tummy is still a newborn. It's pretty much impossible for you to fail right now except to eat things that aren't on your list but we know you aren't doing that cause you'd be in the hospital. lol! No, you are not a failure, you are amazing and brave and strong, you took this incredible step. Now is when you need to be so loving and kind to yourself. If your BFF said to you she was a failure after you watched her go through this you'd pretend slap her, give her a hug and tell her a hilarious joke to try and get her to feel better. So love yourself that much and give yourself a break.

Frenchie1977, I really could care less what you think. You are the exact reason why people really don't like posting their mistakes. You said that I posted it as a joke and you are right because I had to find out the hard way about my body. You could've kept that weak comment to yourself. Let me ask your close minded self a question...... Did you get anything out of my post? If the answer is yes, then shut up and stop trying to bash. And if you didn't get anything from it, you should still shut up. And I am being very nice on this post when I really want to give you some choice words.

I feel ya!!! I so do!!! My boss asked me if I wanted carry out today. The receptionist asked me if if I was "hangry". These fools do not understand how close they came to bodily harm. Just kidding but WOW people just really don't get it. This is HARD.

My surgery is Monday and yes... I have had doubts. But I remind myself that is can not be worse than feeling poorly all the time. It can certainly not be worse to live longer. I remind myself that I am afraid of change. It's comfortable to remain the same but there is a reason I started down this path and I'm not turning back now. . I hope that helps.

I'm on Day 5 of Pre-Op as well... I'm having a lot more trouble with the feeling of emotional deprivation than I am with hunger... the shakes are keeping me decently satisfied, and I'm supplementing with some clear consumme broth, and 2C of plain veges... Lots of crystal light helps too...
The only (perhaps) interesting thing I can add, is that I found myself getting sick of the artificial sweetness of the shakes and drinks... so I've taken to adding some garlic and cayenne pepper to the broth and veges... it's spicy as heck, but nice on the a palette that was getting sick of sweetness...
All of that said, it's really difficult... I keep telling myself that I'm only needing to go through this b/c I loved and needed food so much, so none of this is surprising... If I want to be successful, I need to learn to cope with all of that, so I'm committed to start confronting it now...
Good luck everyone... Surgery set for Friday the 27th at NYU...
