You don't need much.... your phone and a charger with a long cord....chapstick and that's about it....the hospital will supply the rest. Good luck to you!

Did they give you something for the gas pain? They basically, pump you up with a bunch of gas so that they can see the field better. Gasx helps tremendously.. the strips and the chewables. Talk to your doctor. I am post op 11/28 and still feel minor pain from the gas, but it's getting better.

LinSacAda reacted to JupiterinVirgo in Pet peeve: extra skin.
I have been on this forum for about a year and a half. I have seen so many posts of people worrying about excess skin after weight loss. I find this to be incredibly trite and shallow, a roadblock thrown up in the mind to justify the subconscious reasons why we put on and hold the weight to begin with.
First of all, there are of course permanent consequences for getting so big that your skin has to stretch to be twice the size it would be if we were normal weight. It doesn't go back to a state in which it was as if we never were overweight. And so what? What is often unspoken in these forums is that a very overweight person worrying about how they are going to look if they lose weight because of sagging skin, is silly in a society in which obesity is considered ugly to begin with.
More importantly, most of us have the surgery because our bodies and lives were becoming unmanageable due to excess weight, not to look better at speed dating.
For those who are asking the question I have seen posted on this forum a million times, no your skin will not go back to being how it was before your weight gain. There is no cream, no wrap, no swanky magic that's going to make it be as if you were never overweight. The only real option for getting rid of excess skin if you are very overweight when you start, is plastic surgery.
And that comes with its own price. I am not knocking people who choose to have that, I might even choose that eventually, as vanity is one of my flaws. That said, plastic surgery is very very serious, and fairly savage. And still, your body cannot look like it would have if you had never put on weight. They will be scars. Big ones. Surgery of any kind is a serious injury to the body.
The point I am trying to make is that if you are considering having weight-loss surgery to save your life, stop worrying about your skin. Worry about the inner conditions that have led you to the point where this is necessary. Focus instead on changing your behaviors. Focus instead on health, not looks. We have such a distorted view of bodies in this country. Body diversity is beautiful! Stop thinking that you have to look a certain way. Be healthy. Be you.

On Sunday's we usually go to my 87 year old Father N Law's house to watch Packer football and spend some time with him.
Then we take him grocery shopping after the game. Yesterday while in the car, my brother N law calls to tell us that Jim's sister walked into the ER yesterday morning. She was feeling like crap for a couple of days and it was getting worse.
They took one look at her and knew she was in trouble. She suffers from chronic pain and takes alot of pain medication. We have been after her years because she takes too much and does not follow doctors orders.
Well, they quickly did some tests and determined she was in complete liver failure. When they did the toxicology tests, they determined she had massive amounts of acetaminophen in her system. To the point where they thought she tried to commit suicide.
She walked in at 11am, by 6:00pm she was no longer coherent and at 9pm last night they put her on life support. She is also a type 1 diabetic and was dealing with ketoacidosis, brain swelling and her kidneys had 0 output so they put her on dialysis. She was dark yellow and her face and body were swollen to the point where neither my husband and I did not recognize her. We only knew it was her because her husband was in the room. It was very scary and sad.
They gave her a 10% chance of making it through the night but said if she did, they would put her through the process to get a liver transplant. So today, they have a team of doctors assessing her to determine whether or not she will qualify.
We are currently taking it hour by hour at this point in time. I have to say I prayed last night as hard as one could not only for her but Dad, Brother and husband. All of them are in shock that taking too much acetaminophen can do this.
I do not know if they will approve her for a new liver or not or if her body could even survive the surgery at this point. Having chronic pain myself, I get why she took so much. You will do anything to get out of pain. I learned my lesson when i was told all the medications i was taking took a toll on my kidneys and ended up with stage 3 kidney disease. I have learned to deal with my pain in other ways, some days it works, some days not so much.
I read so much about people in chronic pain and see so much on forums regarding people taking more pain medication than they should.
A tylenol overdose can happen to anyone and i am here to tell you it is a horrible thing to have your liver failure. A team of doctors and administrators literally decide your fate. The decision is not as simple as "yes, i will do a transplant" - someone decides for you. We are praying that she gets through this and if she does, she will be able to follow the very strict instructions of living life after liver transplant. Following instructions on medications.

Good to know that Walmart has them. I got the SlimFast while in Shoprite.....was in Walmart earlier and didn't even think to check out their shakes. I'll finish this can because I don't want to waste money, but based on the comments, I don't think I'll repeat the purchase.......want to definitely get more bang for my buck. Will try the Premier RTD shakes and powders next.

The Slim Fast shakes are low quality Protein with too much sugar for the amount of Protein.< /p>
Premier shakes would be better. Syntrax nectar. Something from a Supplement/health food store.
Slim Fast is kind of like weight watchers imo, not really about helping people lose weight but keeping them as customers.

I hit "overweight" (as opposed to obese) on the BMI charts last week and I was over the moon. So I can definitely imagine making the "normal" milestone is huge. Congrats

There is no way in he!! I am NORMAL! hahaha.....But based on my BMI this morning I am now in the normal range...I can't believe it! I had surgery on 5/16/16. My starting weight was 252....I've lost 97.8 pounds and weigh 154.2 this morning!!! I only have 4.2 pounds to go before I hit my goal weight!! It's only been about 6.5 months.....I'm just amazed!!

It can help with weight loss... Maybe that is it. Personally I wouldn't accept the Rx unless the doctor told me why they were prescribing it.

I had my gastric sleeve done January 11th. I weighed 333.1lbs.
I'm 10 months post op now and weigh 144.2lbs.
I've set new goal weights as I've gone along...first was just to get under 200lbs, then I thought I wanted my goal weight to be 180lbs. When I got there, I made the crazy goal of 150lbs never thinking I'd make it....but I did. So then I figured my goal would be 145lbs which puts me at a normal bmi...which I haven't been since I was around 10.
Now that I weight 144lbs, I've decided my final goal will 133lbs, which will mean I will have lost a total of 200lbs....and I'll do it, I know I can.
I never thought when I had surgery that weighing in the 130's would even be possible.
I've gone from wearing sizes 5-6x, and 28-30, now I wear smalls and mediums and am a size 8....I would be around a 6 if it wasn't for the large amount of skin I have around my stomach and thighs....but it's a price I'm more than happy to pay.
I've been extremely disciplined this whole 10 months. I can honestly say I've never put a bad food in my mouth...not once. I follow a very low carb diet still, drink about 85oz of Water every day and get in around 80oz of Protein. I take all my required Vitamins daily.
The gym has become a big part of my life. I workout around 5-6 days per week doing a variety of exercising....spin class, step  class, yoga, cardio machines....I like doing different things so I don't get bored.
Anyway, because I'm so close to goal, I just wanted to share this. And for the people who have a lot of weight to lose like I did....remember, you can do this! I'm living proof!!

Wow, you look amazing for only 2 months out. You can see those curves coming through.
I'm "doing the deed" tomorrow and am a little nervous and wondering if I'm doing the right thing. But seeing the results like yours makes me feel confident in my decision. Everyone asked me why I didn't want to wait until after the holidays for the surgery, and I kept saying why wait another month when I could be down 20-30 pounds by then. I've been fat long enough and have definitely ate my share of Christmas Cookies. lol
