My surgery was April 3rd, too. I've lost 39 pounds since surgery. I think you are doing great! I keep telling myself that slow loss may help my skin not sag (I don't know if that's true or not). It makes me feel better anyway [emoji4]
I have been in a stall for three weeks. It's weird though because my measurements are changing despite the stuck numbers on the scale. It's like the scale takes forever to catch up to my changing body.
    I wish you luck[emoji256]

There is NO way that I could have done anything like that the day after surgery. By Day 3 post-op, I was feeling better enough to take a walk outside, but the day after was pure hell and I did good to walk up and down the hallway of my building a few times a day.

I'm 3 months post op. We've been married 16 years. My husband is heavy.
My diet is my diet. I cook for me separately from what I cook for him and the kids.
I would love for my hubby to jump on the health train, but it's like running into a brick wall. There is no changing him. He drinks soda, eats ice cream, etc etc.
My delimma is whether to stay with him when (not if!) he has strokes and diabetes. We live with his father who has both. His older brother has had both too.
How am I supposed to feel about someone that is headed down a dangerous path, and refuses to change course? (And it will be me who has to pick up the pieces)...

In and Out and 4 Guys also have "Protein style" burgers which r wrapped in lettuce. Hubby gets these all the time. It's a great way to eat a burger, holding it in ur hands like an actual burger. Personally, I don't like lettuce wrapped burgers. It's not really a burger without the bun. I eat them occasionally, and I will eat about 1/3 of an In and Out. Hubby can eat In and Out about 3x a week. I like it about once a month.

I just ate 2 White Castle sliders without the Buns. Yum! I also eat pizza toppings and Chinese food (mostly the meat and veggies, but also a teeny bit of rice or noodles). I didn't have surgery to be on a diet the rest of my life. Fortunately I was never a bread person anyways, so taking off the bun and not eating the crust is nothing new for me.

What was your start weight? This is a good reminder of expectations as well. Many programs suggest eliminating Protein Shakes once you are on your normal diet cause they are high calorie. Don't be discouraged - it's a marathon, not a race. [emoji5]

This is a story about a young man who always had a smile on his face but knew he was different. Whether it be his heart or his waistline he always had the biggest in his class. He never let it hold him back because he saw the best in people when they couldn't see it in him.

He wasn’t always so confident about what life would hold for him. At the age of 12, he had gotten to 220 pounds. Due to a condition unrelated to his weight he suffered pain in his legs and ankles and required surgery to repair a curvature in his legs. Post-op, he gained even more weight. From age 12 to 16 he gained about 120 pounds.

It's hard to see the pain behind this cutie's smile, but when he was 16 he told a psychiatrist that he was ready to die. He felt like he maxed out on his potential in life and it would be okay if he wasn't around anymore. It was an extremely stressful time and he had no proper way to cope with anything, and he let himself get to 340 pounds. He had no values. He had no beliefs and he saw no purpose.

In 2010, his mom read a magazine article about the SickKids Team Obesity Management Program. Through STOMP, patients can access a team of health professionals, support groups and, for those who meet specific criteria, bariatric surgery. At the time, the program was focused on teens with other health issues, such as Type 2 diabetes, but he was still a solid fit. After three months, he had lost 20 pounds and the team was looking at surgical options. In August 2011 and weighing 300 pounds, he had a Roux-En-Y gastric bypass, a form of bariatric surgery

In less than a year he lost around 80 pounds, weighing 220 pounds. His life had changed significantly when it came to eating, but he was prepared for that and knew he would have to manage this for the rest of his life.

It wasn't perfect and for a few years post-op he struggled with multiple different complications, but he found a way to push through them and find some balance in his life.

He began to find purpose in his life. He went to nursing school, driven by the care and passion that many doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals poured into him along his journey. He wanted to giveback and make a difference in other people's lives. He wanted others to see that they were just as worth the love and care he received.

He found values. He became accountable for his actions and saw what was truly important in his life. He became a lover of travelling, eating delicious food and engaging in fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle.

He developed a new set of beliefs - that every day is another chance to get stronger, to eat better, to live healthier and be the best version of himself because he is human - perfectly imperfect and worth it.

    *Waves*

Hi, I suffer from dumping. lol! Of course I get one of the most rare side effects. lol! It SUCKS. But survivable. Usually only happens to me at night and I get the joy if it not being limited to sugars. YAY! lol!!

Anyway, regarding food you can and can't eat....well, once you are fully recovered you can really eat anything you want. Though, i mean, when I say eat I really mean taste. Sure, I've had some fried chicken since I was fully recovered...I took a bite of nieces and she howled with indignation. hahahah! I've had cheese cake. I mean, it's only 3 bites but it was totally satisfying and I was full.
pizza I eat Pizza all the time. I only eat the top. just the cheese, sauce and toppings. Love it!
Cheese steak. Oh man, do I love cheese steaks. I'm from PA so... Anyway, I had 2 bites of a friend of mine's and it was glorious...and I was full.

Of course, these are the few and far between moments of a highly regimented and dedicated diet and exercise routine. But as I told my doctor, and he was in full agreement, I didn't have this surgery so that I would be limited my whole life. I did it so I was would free my body and allow myself to enjoy the things I used to love in moderation.
But you need to be at least 6 to 8 months down the road before incorporating any of these food into your diet. Because we need at least half a year to reset our bodies and minds. And many would disagree with me 100% and would say to never eat those things, even a bite such as my process.

It was a hard concept for me to get until I was post op a couple of months. WLS does not keep you from eating anything. After you heal you will, for the most part, be able to eat anything you want but in smaller quantities. I have absolutely no problem eating anything at all. With the exception of fried potatoes, which is ok with me.

You've probably heard it before but this surgery is a tool to help you learn the self control needed to maintain a healthy weight. Consequently, you will not succeed if you do not change your relationship with food. I still enjoy a good meal but it is a rare treat to indulge myself. I stick with my plan of 60-100g of Protein and less than 25g of carbs and ensuring I drink 64 oz Water a day. Staying within that guideline has worked for me. Occasionally I slip when I'm with family or friends but my new tool helps me to get back at it the next day.

I encourage you to use pre op and post op restrictions to evaluate your relationship with food. You will mourn the loss, regret your decision, and get angry because you did this to yourself. You experience the toughest breakup you have ever known. Your very emotional relationship with food must come to an end and it hurts like hell. But!!!! There is so much joy on the other side of that.

I drive through town and never think of running through a drive thru. I can prepare a meal for my family without "tasting" a full meals worth of calories. I can go to a movie and skip the buttered popcorn. These are concepts that I did not know existed.

You will get it. You will know exactly what I mean and it will be so freeing. I am amazed what I missed because eating was so important to me.

    Good luck! And take care.

I applied and was hired as a high school teacher for this fall! I'm three months post-op and am very nervous about shopping for new clothes when the time comes. Also, my department eats lunch together, so I'm wondering how that will work out.

I have to move to another state for this job, so I'll be alone for about 9 months before my family joins me. I'm so excited, scared, nervous, and happy!

Before, 227lbs in a size 2X coat that was tight on me.
2.5 months post sleeve, finishing off a night of swing dancing in a size L dress in the mid 160s.
The difference here isn't just the weight and size, but the fact that old me NEVER would have been doing weekly swing dancing lessons and going to social dances! I'm not only smaller, I have a genuinely better quality of life! Oh and the picture was taken by a new friend of mine who I met through a post-op support group! We do all kinds of activities together that don't revolve around food. I love it!

I bought a food scale and barely use it. I didnt have money for one for most of this journey so i just got used to not weighing everything. I measured as much as i could with the measuring cups in my house. I'm 8 months out and my restriction is kind of crazy. I can barely get down 2oz of Protein and that takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Forget veggies in the same meal unless i have both on the same fork.

I wish the dr would have told me about the 2x a day prescription liquid medicine Carafate I have to take for three months. The directions say take an hour before eating or 3 hours after eating, and you can't take it with Vitamins or acid reducers like Prilosec or dexilant.
I'll be glad when it's gone! Yuck.

After speaking to the nurse, they wanted to see me asap. The doctor had me go in for a scope yesterday. I had a stricture and gastritis. They used a ballon to expand the tight spot.

The only thing that hurt when I work up was my eye. Somehow I got a scratch during surgery! They gave me some antibiotic numbing drops and sent me home.

I am now on Carafate 4x a day. I am so hopeful and ready to get back on track.

I knew the risks. It was worth rolling the dice on GERD not to have my intestines touched.
If RNY was my only option I would have never had surgery. I wanted to do something serious and long term for a long time and neither the lap and or bypass appealed to me.
It sounds like OP has a good doctor and a good course of treatment.
This just reminds me not to take my good health for granted and to stay diligent on my follow ups.
My friend has a hiatal hernia and GERD and a stomach full of ulcers, never had any kind of surgery let alone WLS surgery. While having surgery increaes your risks, normal people have these issues.

I feel really bad for band revision people. They seem to have more complications than anyone else no matter what surgery they pick, sleeve or bypass. The band really messed a lot of people up, I don't understand how it is still on the market and how there has not been a class action lawsuit.
