NewChiGirl reacted to auntberber in 2 week appointment with surgeon
So, I was sleeved on 12-14 and went in today for my 2 week appointment. Dr was very happy with my progress, incisions are healing nicely, and, I'm down 24 pounds since my surgeryI also was bumped to stage 3 soft foods. I know it's going to slow down, but I'm enjoying it.

NewChiGirl reacted to Hiraeth in I've lost 60 pounds in 4 months!
Gosh, I am so happy right now. I'm so glad I decided to do this, especially now. I'm 25 years old, and I've been overweight since age 17. I was always thin as a kid and a teenager (I even suffered from anxiety that led to anorexia at age 10). Who would have thought that a once anorexic person could be obese? I packed on a whopping 50 pounds in only 3 months during my Senior year of high school because I was put on oral steroids for sinus issues. I went from a size 6 in pants, to a size 12. I was mortified, but I couldn't stop eating. My highest weight was 255, while I was only 125 at age 15. That means I put on 130 pounds in 10 years. I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor cerebri at age 20, even though the symptoms started at age 17; obese women are most at risk of getting it. Pseudotumor cerebri controlled my life. I was having visual obscurations (even though my vision is 20/15), I would get severe Migraines that made me vomit, and I basically slept my life away from feeling so fatigued.
After losing 60 pounds, I am no longer having visual problems or migraines. It's so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. I used to sleep until 2 p.m. on the weekends. This past weekend, I was up by 9:30 a.m.! I was like, "Is this clock right?!" Ha!
I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea earlier this year (I stopped breathing in my sleep over 30 times per hour). I had already decided to get a Sleeve before I found out about the sleep apnea, because I was miserable carrying all this weight on a 5'2'' frame. I recently bought myself a Fitbit after my surgery as a treat to myself, and to keep up with my walking. I noticed it has a sleep feature that records when you're awake, asleep, and restless. I looked through my old sleeping records and matched them with this month, and I can see a HUGE difference. I was only getting maybe 1-2 hours of restful sleep each night. Now, I am getting at least 6 hours of restful sleep. I know it will improve as I lose more weight.
This surgery has given me my life back.

NewChiGirl reacted to MowryRocks in Major NSV
I am just days away from 2 months out, but wanted to share my favorite NSV so far. I am a Type 2 diabetic who has been on Metformin for 10 years and a Bydureon non-insulin injectable for 2 years. Even while on medication my average fasting blood sugar was 140. I was taken off all medications during my pre-surgery liquid phase with the docs intention to add them back in slowly once we had a better idea of where I would be post-op. 2 months later and not only am I not on meds, but my fasting blood sugar was 85 this morning.
Thank God I went forward with this surgery. If I never lose another pound this alone would be worth it.

NewChiGirl reacted to Nymea in First blood results post op
So I am coming up to 5 months post op now and have had my first post op blood done with excellent news. The numbers are whatever we use in Australia so they may not make a lot of sense to those of you in USA unfortunately.
So hba1c ( I am a diabetic) has gone from 8.5% to 7.0% and I have stopped all insulin and oral medications. Just on diet alone now.
Total Cholesterol down from 8.5 mmol to 4.0 (4.0 is considered normal here)
Ratios for the cholesterol measures are all in the excellent range
Liver enzymes down from 156 to 126 (normal is 115 maximum) ... so I still have a little way to go there but I am happy considering how many blood pressure tablets I was taking and that I am still on a few.
I am ecstatic about these results. I feel fantastic and am beginning to enjoy life again. Yes I still have some weight to go to goal, but that is less important to me now that my health is so much better.

NewChiGirl reacted to AvaFern in The Easy Way Out
I told no one that I had surgery until a week after surgery, at which point I told my three best friends. I am now at 2.5 years post-op and those three people are the only people who know. You will absolutely have people who tell you that you are taking the easy way out, who make comments about what you're eating, and who, God forbid, if you lose weight and gain a bit back, will tell you how they were right all along that you took the easy way out and look, you failed.
There is nothing wrong with perpetuating the fairy tale- it is your life and who you tell or don't tell is your business. I have never once regretted not telling people and I am 100% certain that the snide comments about how I had bariatric surgery would have bothered me and continued to be something people bring up, well past the point I am now which is at 11 months of maintenance at goal. People are jerks and they will 100% say stupid things and hurt your feelings if you make your decision public. If you're fine with that, then good for you, but if you're not, there is no reason in the world that you owe anyone an explanation other than diet and exercise, because ultimately if you don't diet and exercise the sleeve won't work anyway, so it's hardly as if you're lying.

NewChiGirl reacted to rydersmama in Never thought this was possible
I had my gastric sleeve done January 11th. I weighed 333.1lbs.
I'm 10 months post op now and weigh 144.2lbs.
I've set new goal weights as I've gone along...first was just to get under 200lbs, then I thought I wanted my goal weight to be 180lbs. When I got there, I made the crazy goal of 150lbs never thinking I'd make it....but I did. So then I figured my goal would be 145lbs which puts me at a normal bmi...which I haven't been since I was around 10.
Now that I weight 144lbs, I've decided my final goal will 133lbs, which will mean I will have lost a total of 200lbs....and I'll do it, I know I can.
I never thought when I had surgery that weighing in the 130's would even be possible.
I've gone from wearing sizes 5-6x, and 28-30, now I wear smalls and mediums and am a size 8....I would be around a 6 if it wasn't for the large amount of skin I have around my stomach and thighs....but it's a price I'm more than happy to pay.
I've been extremely disciplined this whole 10 months. I can honestly say I've never put a bad food in my mouth...not once. I follow a very low carb diet still, drink about 85oz of Water every day and get in around 80oz of Protein. I take all my required Vitamins daily.
The gym has become a big part of my life. I workout around 5-6 days per week doing a variety of exercising....spin class, step class, yoga, cardio machines....I like doing different things so I don't get bored.
Anyway, because I'm so close to goal, I just wanted to share this. And for the people who have a lot of weight to lose like I did....remember, you can do this! I'm living proof!!

NewChiGirl reacted to DiminishingDawn in Any Long-Timers here
Are there any true veterans on here? I immediately went to the veterans forum here but the definition there is "6 months or more". In wls circles a veteran is typically defined as anyone 2 years out or more. So it makes me wonder I'd there are any log timers here at all?
Anyway, glad to find this forum. More than Willing to help any newbies, meet new friends :-)
I'm 7 years out of rny, teacher and Canadian.
Thanks for having me!
