Definitely sounds like acid. That's how I felt even with a PPI. Took liquid Carafate for 10 days and now all better.

Try an otc acid reducer like prilosec, dual fusion or things like that. Smaller bites and sips. Keep upright after eating.

@@MandySneddon It's a drug like Nexium, Prilosec and Protonix. They reduce stomach acid so you won't have burning. The drug was made to help heal uclers and keep a disorder like GERD at bay.
I was given a month's prescription while still in the hosp. Had to take it for one month. Am weaning off of it now.
You weren't given anything like that?

I'm almost 5 weeks out, and you're doing so well! My Water and Protein intake isn't the greatest but I'm working it it. But gym time, I get on the arc trainer for 2 hours and do light weight training for 30 Minutes. I'm still in purees and my Sw was 271, I didn't get to see what I was day of surgery but I'm 238 as of today. You're an inspiration!

Omg Russ!!! Almost seventy pounds in 4 weeks! Rock star!!! We got sleeved the same day I'll be 4 weeks fri. I want to thank you for this post. I'm struggling with energy levels. Im nauseous with my Vitamins so I'm sure I'm lacking. I get my Water and Protein in. I'm going to bite the bullet and get more exercise in. Seems crazy bc I have no energy, but I realize it's a catch-22. I have a young son so I'm going to increase walking with him. Maybe join yoga as well it's something I like. I started at 268.8 and I'm 242 even today- down 26.8 lbs. I thought maybe I was tired bc of the rapid weight loss (I'm sure that's part of it, I read that losing weight fast causes hormone dumping). Again, I appreciate your post I like to see other people that are around as far out as I am. I'm happy for you, and I'm going to take your lead.

This Friday December 9th I will be one month post-op.
    A little refresher on me:
I was 470 pounds on October 26th when I started my pre op diet.
I was 440 pounds when I had my surgery on November 9th.
    By November 19th I was 420 pounds.
The weight loss slowed down then and by November 29th I was around 413 pounds. 7 pounds in 10 days.
I joined a gym near my job that has an indoor pool and after my surgeon said it was OK to swim, I decided to start swimming for 30 minutes each morning at 7 am before I go to work. I'm doing the breast stroke, nice and easy, taking my time.
I started swimming on November 29th at 413 pounds. Today December 6th I'm 403.5 pounds.
The swimming is helping the weight come off! If you are NOT exercising, you really should. It makes a difference!
As for eating, I'm trying to get in around 100-120 grams of Protein a day. The swimming makes me hungry so I bring about 5-6 small meals with me to work. I try to eat about every 2-3 hours. It could be a chobani greek yogurt, some pureed chicken or turkey, Soup, hummus.
I'm trying to be aware of fat and sugar and make protein the most important thing I eat, plus plenty of Water.< /p>
I'm just really happy I started swimming because it's really helped me to get even more energetic in the morning and it's going to help with the weight loss!
    Thanks for reading this!

Soda, any carbonation hurt my stomach. Anything with a fizz. I kept trying (a little sip) now and then, it would just hurt and I found it wasn't worth it.
If you find yourself craving...try shaking until the soda is flat. I did this with a bottle of 7up after I came down with the flu.
    HW: 280lbs
    Day of surgery : 256lbs
In two days it will be 9 months: 170lbs.
Best of luck and best wishes!

MandySneddon reacted to Djmohr in Malabsorption is a major concern and constipation
    @@sugarbear234
Malabsorption was very scary for me when i first started this journey mostly because I did not understand it. It is not a side effect, it is on purpose and it helps you with weight loss and maintenance. I am thrilled that I had RNY and have the malabsorption factor.
The most important thing is that you take your Vitamins as prescribed and have your nutritional panel done as prescribed. This makes sure that if you are malabsorbing Vitamins and minerals that they know and you can take a supplement.
I am over two years post op, get my blood checked once per year now. There was only 1 time that my blood work was abnormal and that was post op 6 months, i was low on thiamin. So now i take a B1 Vitamin everday. My blood work has been fine ever since.
Dont be afraid of malabsorption unless you are not a rule follower. They told me that some people stop getting their blood work done, dont follow instructions and then years later are in trouble.
If you follow the plan, it is nothing to be worried about.
    Best of luck to you!

I just read a thread over on the 'POST surgery' forum about POP. a newbie post related to drinking soda after surgery, a vet answered them and got herself torn sideways from the OP.
I feel bad because this person was QUITE obviously trying to only help, and give adequate information. For example, the OP carried on about their 'pouch' and stretching it.
The vet simply responded that a sleeve is not the same as a RNY pouch and that it really can't be stretched according to anatomical make up. Well, so much for trying to help! When I was a NOOB i was so happy to get good advice from the vets. in fact, that is how I learned the majority of the information that I needed pre-op. Obviously the other newbies couldn't give me advice based on experience, but the vets then were SO helpful (that includes many people on this forum).
So building off the other thread related to vets leaving, I look at this and totally understand why some vets have left....

I am almost 8 weeks post op, so this was my first Thanksgiving after surgery. I ate enough to be full over the course of an hour and I was satisfied. I just kept looking at everyone like how can you eat all that! ???? ???? ???? ???? How was everyone else's first Thanksgiving after surgery?

I am a secret sleever so I filled my plate up like Normal and ate at a slow pace until nobody noticed I'd barely eaten anything. I did eat carbs today. I hope it doesn't throw me into a stall but I thought, the hell with it. I've done so good and will continue to do good. I'm going to eat some of the broccoli and cheddar rice and some hash brown casserole. It was a measly couple bites of each but I do feel a bit guilty. I skipped dessert as I had NO ROOM! I planned on eating a sliver of pumpkin pie but didn't. My niece is due to get sleeved and RNY on the 8th of Dec. so today was the first day of her liquid diet! I felt really bad for her. She is around 360+ pounds and was literally starving looking at the tables and tables of food and cakes and pies. Poor thing.

Just wanted to share my satisfaction with my progress..I stopped the pain meds the morning after surgery and according to my dr I'm doing very good. I went back to work 1/2 days at 6 days (I sit at a desk) I even went dancing for little bit Saturday. Taking my time eating and trying to find that 'full' feeling. I haven't gotten sick or anything which I'm so glAd for. I am down 36.4 lbs since 2 weeks before surgery. And looking forward to my new chapter.

You only have a little room in your stomach. Eat turkey first and you won't be able to indulge in all the temptations around you. My soft food diet allowed mashed potatos as soft veggies so maybe a tiny taste of those things if they are on your plan.
If someone gives you a hard time for eating so little, just tell them this is your new life and your choice. It doesn't help to try to reason with others about our choice to be sleeved. If you take ownership, the naysayers will leave you alone after a while because they don't get a reaction.
Enjoy your thanksgiving. . It is much more about what we are thankful for than the food!

I'd say that you are trying to get healthy so you can't eat spaghetti but came to show your support anyway. That is a great thing to do and I'd hope they are more concerned with the cause than your plate:) keep it simple and act nonchalant. If you don't make it a big deal neither should they

So I am about 5 months post op, I've lost 67lbs.. well I went to a spaghetti benefit dinner for a friends mom today. I wanted to go and show my support and make my donation, but couldn't eat the spaghetti. What was awkward was after I sat down, and the people around me noticed I wasn't eating, even though some people were already done.. so it's not like I was the only one not eating.. anyways.. like 4 people asked me why aren't you eating? I just said oh I'm okay.. and they just sort of looked at me.. I don't feel like I should have to tell every acquaintance my story and why I'm not eating spaghetti and cake? Idk what else to say in a situation like that..

I'm 5 weeks post op. I've been very lucky because I didn't experience any pain or nausea. The gerd resolved after 2 weeks. I'm never hungry which is great, but I really have a difficult time eating. Nothing tastes okay and I have to force myself to eat something. Has this happened to you and if so, did it get better.
