Hi there - you look great!

I was feeling ok, but I’m day 5 now and I’ve woken up feeling sick due to to hunger. I know it’s a hunger kind of pain... or not eating enough. Did you go through this stage? Will it pass soon? Thanks.

Hello! I’m 7 weeks post op and back on a “regular diet” obviously healthy meals. I no longer touch fast food or processed foods I make everything fresh at home.
My NUT instructed me to set alarms and eat every 3-4 hours (or else I’ll literally forget to eat that day not that I’m not hungry).
I feel like I eat too much in one sitting, maybe it seems a lot of food now that I get full super easy. But tonight for dinner I had a soy-free vegan “chicken” patty with a serving of diced sweet potatoes with snap peas (maybe alittle more than 1/2 cup). I ate it in about 45 minutes.
How much should I be eating 7 weeks out?

Agreed! If you need to talk, or have references, let me know! Also, something I forgot to mention on my previous post, I am pretty much an open book, but if you need more info about my story, I would be happy to provide it, I was just trying to get the gist without any triggering anything. It's also amazing that you are recognizing even the slightest blip on your radar! I, as a child didn't see it until I was caught by middle school science teacher! Your thought process is pretty sound. Realizing that you may have a problem is the first step and the second is reaching out is the second. You can beat this and anything else. @dreamingsmall I didn't mean to piggyback off of your post, I just forgot to say some stuff, and I loved what you had to say!

My first two months after surgery I didn't have any cravings or anything like that, I didn't have any hunger until actually just recently, I mean I am a year out from my surgery just last week and I just now started to feel hungry again. It was a super weird feeling, because I haven't felt it since so long so now we're trying to figure out you know what that means to me and how to keep myself from overeating like I did in the past. This year was challenging. I even had to have a piccline in so I could administer fluids with added potassium during 7 months of my first year. Hydration is key, and you seem to have that down, sometimes some of us have trouble. Talk to your surgeron or follow up doctor to see if there are any other options of you are reading this post and experiencing the same problem. If you can get the Water in, then do it, if you can't work with your doctor to see what you can do. There is always an option.

Good luck today! you got this! I am a year out from my surgery and my hope is that I see you on the other side...if you are really nervous, ask your anesthesiologist for versed before heading into the room, if will make you less nervous seeing all those people and also help you not remember if god forbid you accidently metabolize the anaesthesia too quickly. Versed is your friend, as long as you aren't allergic pf course.

Keep us posted, and let us know how it goes! We are rooting for you!

Mhy....you must be looking at the Nutritional Supplement version of the shake. The one I'm using is specifically for patients having major surgery and I had to buy it at the pharmacy behind the counter. This one has 15 g of Carbs per shake. It says right on the box that it's to be used only for a short time under the supervision of a doctor.
While I understand that Nestle makes chocolate, they also have a huge medical nutrition line (Nestle Health Science) that provides many of the liquid food formulas given to Tube Fed patients, and special liquid supplements for people with specific nutritional needs in medical recovery. Yep, they make candy. Apparently, they're also a huge name in medical nutrition.
I'm not saying these shakes are necessary. I'm not plugging them....if I were, I sure wouldn't talk about how God-awful they taste. But it's disingenuous to say they're made by a candy company and are "suspect".
And like I say....since I started drinking them in place of 3 of my other shakes...I've felt amazingly clearer. They make me feel a LOT better.
Also, the protocol I'm using that was developed by University of Michigan (that includes these weird shakes) is being picked up by Cedars-Sinai and some other super reputable research hospitals. I don't think they'd steer anyone to junk to make a buck because, frankly, they have a ton of money and don't need to. Their bread and butter...is in cutting edge research and having great outcomes.

Just over 2 weeks post op, and I feel light headed often right when I stand up. I am getting plenty of fluids, and it is not my BP (checked). Still don't know why, but it is definitely related to the surgery.

Truth, that's why I said if she truly gained 20 pounds on the intake she says she has she should see a doctor because that might be an underlying issue or a medication issue if she is taking any medications (some cause weight gain).
But having to low an intake can stall you per my NUT and personal experience. Not make you gain for sure, but stall nontheless, so eating to little is not going to help the situation either. If she really is eating what she says she is.

People who do that annoy me so much. If they think having half their stomach removed or intestines rearranged is the easy way out they should try it! It takes a lot if courage and determination to do this and do it well. I wish you all the best on your journey. Only tell who you want to tell it's your body.

I put myself back on full liquids for well over 3 months aside from the occasional smoothie, due to just not being able to handle anything more. My stomach changed, I needed to accommodate for that. I couldn't hold down a salad eaten whole, but I could down a smoothie with salad (kale, romaine, sprouts) of choice and flax seeds and other types of low sugar fruits. I wasn't about to starve myself...again.

dr3am3rstarz got a reaction from Healthy_life2 in So, it's officially been 1 year since my surgery!
This time last year I was getting ready to undergo my surgery. I followed the diet to a 't' except for on Thanksgiving. That was my last meal it wasn't a big meal but it was my last meal that I would have for a year. I decided that at that moment I needed to make a change. I actually made the change long before when I started my pre-op diet however I wasn't as serious as I thought I needed to be. So as I underwent surgery everything went fine, I tried to minimize the pain and the gas in the minimal suffering that came with the surgery and was out the next day and back home. I went and about my business to school and back to work and was trying to do my best to make sure that I was doing what I was supposed to do. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease just six months before and also being diagnosed with fibromyalgia I found out that I wasn't going to be able to exercise the way that I had committed to before having the surgery. However my lyme disease doctor decided that it was going to be okay for me to still go ahead with my surgery as getting rid of fat at the same time as a herxheimer reaction would be okay because the toxins are all getting released and dumped at the same time. My year was a struggle off and on I even checked myself into the hospital for fear of an overdose because of severe fibromyalgia pain that I didn't know could exist that badly until I lost I think my first 40 or so pounds within the first two months of my surgery. But I'll get on to the Happy stuff now. I am now down a hundred and thirty pounds from 334. I feel like I'm in a good place and that I'm still working to get my weight down to a better level and also working on my cholesterol as it as it still sits well above what it should be. I think that anyone who wants to do the surgery should definitely do some research as to the discipline that this it requires because you will have obstacles to overcome and, as you lose the weight you'll feel feelings that you haven't felt in a really long time, you'll have cravings that you didn't think were possible, you'll have to overcome some things that have happened to you in your life just to make it out alive, so you should definitely think long and hard before deciding to have a surgery like this this, it is as though this is literally the hardest thing I've ever done. But I'm happier for it, it's taking me awhile to get here this year has been quite Rocky, I hope that with continued support and continued diligence and stability in my life that I can continue to lose weight and get down to my goal weight which is around 150 lbs because of a previous eating disorder that I had when I was growing up I don't want to get down to well that makes sense. I'm not going to post the pictures here, I know that a picture is a thousand words, but I'm still ashamed of how I looked before and I'm not completely okay with where I am now. I can tell that I've lost weight when I look at the before pictures and you know look at myself in the mirror. However just looking at myself in the mirror I can't tell, not yet anyway. Thanks to those who have been supportive throughout this journey I don't know what I would have done without you. As for everyone else looking to go through surgery and looking for success stories I would have to say that mine is one, but again, you want to make sure that this is something you can do because this again is a tool, something to help you, because in reality what we all need to do is learn to eat better and this can help. Just be careful!

I never had a drain, just a pain med pump that I youtubed on how to pull out and pulled it out after day 3 of my surgery. I would check in your binder, if your doctor gave you one, or give your doctor a call. Each case/person is different.

I'm 7 months postop, and it's amazing how, when your life is no longer on the line, it becomes easy to let things slide.
The thing that keeps me on track is a dry erase board in my kitchen. Imagine the old food pyramid:
    6-11 grains, 3-5 vegetables, 2-4 fruits, Etc.
Anyway, I created my own food pyramid, and when I eat something, I check it off.
Here is my pyramid during the weightloss phase:
    Unlimited nonstarchy veggies
2-3 starchy veg, legumes, or fruit
    3 dairy
    2 meat, fish, or eggs
    1 nuts or seeds
    supplements
(No grains or added sugar and aim for 70g protein)
I do eat more carbs than most, but that is a personal choice based on my own metabolism, and what makes my plan sustainable for me. I do aim for lower-carb options within the food groups.
