Many of us have been there. Soda was so hard for me to give up. This whole process is very hard because we don't get brain surgery to go with our stomachs. You might want to talk to a therapist because they really can help with the food relationship.

The fact is that the surgery doesn't guarantee weight loss or meeting goal. You have to redefine your relationship with food, follow your plan, and decide what is more important -- food or your health. Even at 16 months post-op and below goal, I still won't eat more than 25g of carbs in a day -- no bread, no Pasta, no potatoes. Food is fuel to me. I had to do that to be successful, and that success was and is so much more important to me than any type of food.
As the others said, getting back to basics is probably your best course of action. But you have to make the decision that you want to be successful. And that's going to mean putting away the burgers, sandwiches, and burritos.
    Good luck!

There are two phases to weight loss surgery - the Weight Loss Phase and the Maintenance phase. The strategies for each phase is different. This is the approach I used in the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf It is common to have some limited weight gain after gastric bypass surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond it. According to my nutritionist, meals (at one year post op and beyond) should consist of equal parts of Protein, fats and carbs after the first couple years post-op. Snacks should be limited to primarily whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible.
Before surgery, I had constant hunger. When I was eating a meal, my mind was thinking what I would have for my next meal. It was incessant. Now the interesting thing that occurred after my RNY surgery was that I completely lost my hunger. It was not difficult to plan my minuscule meals because I wasn't really hungry. This condition does not last forever but for about a year and then the hunger returns. It just isn't as strong as before.
I also had a sweet tooth before surgery. chocolate by itself isn't the primary problem but the sugar is. During the winter I normally drink a cup of hot cocoa. But it must be the No Sugar Added variety. Also Adkins makes a number of chocolate treats that contain artifical sweeteners that might satisfy your sweet tooth.

Snacking can stall weight loss. Go back to basics 3 meals Protein first and keep on exercising. You deserve to reach your goals! Believe in yourself and keep going. The pouch isn't broken but if u graze on carbs and junk food it will stop working as your calories add up.

First off, congratulations on your weight loss so far!
I am pre-op so take my feedback from that perspective. It sounds to me like you know what to do to get back on track and you're doing it. I would also suggest that you decide how much food you're going to eat before you weigh and measure. 1 cup? 1/2 cup? 800 calories, etc. Wherever you feel you "should" be right now. And then stick with that. Go back to basics. Take a bite and put down your fork while you chew chew chew. I'm nervous about doing the same thing and these are some tips I'm trying to hold on to.
I would also encourage you not to think of this time period as a stall. It's not a stall, but a response to moving away from good habits. If you get back into your good habits you should start seeing the weight come off again.
I think it's really smart and you are scheduled with your psych. I would also schedule with your NUT as well. Get a check on what you're eating and how much and tactical ways to better control your intake while you are also getting the mental health support to manage the whys.
    Best of luck!!

First, it's a medical procedure and private. If I were having any other medical procedure, hysterectomy, my ingrown toe nails fixed, whatever, I wouldn't tell everyone. Second, I just don't want to be judged for 'taking the easy way out', 'why don't you just watch what you eat and exercise more', or anything else a doubter would say. And to be brutally honest, I'm afraid that I will fail again.
It's weird because I am actually an outgoing person and involved in many community activities. I generally like people and am open with just about everything else. I'm just embarrassed about my weight.
Maybe one day I'll 'come out', but for now just my immediate family as we live together and I have to.

bigperm reacted to James Marusek in Long term effects from Bariatric Surgery
Research looked at the long term effects of RNY gastric bypass surgery at 12 years post-op. They concluded surgery appears to be successful for at least 12 years in terms of diabetes prevention or remission, as well as for improvement of lipid profiles and weight loss. But they noted an increase in suicide risk among patients.
The investigators, led by Dr. Ted D. Adams from Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Utah, followed 418 patients who had RYGB gastric bypass surgery, and compared them to 417 patients who didn't have surgery (although they wanted to) because their insurance didn't cover it (non-surgery group 1 (NS1) and to a group of 321 equally obese people who didn't have surgery and hadn't tried to obtain it (NS2).
As expected, the surgery group lost more weight than either non-surgery group by 12 years post-procedure — - 35, three and zero percent respectively. In addition, the surgery group maintained an improved metabolic profile compared to either their baseline status or to the other groups. For example, their blood glucose levels dropped post-surgery, while those of NS1 and NS2 increased. Similarly, the level of LDL cholesterol decreased post-surgery while that of the NS groups had increased, and the opposite was true for HDL (good) cholesterol. Furthermore, the level of glycated hemoglobin (a measurement of glucose levels over time) didn't change in the surgical group, while it increased in both non-surgery groups. Also, of the 88 patients in the surgery group who had type 2 diabetes initially, 43 of those were no longer diabetic 12 years post surgery. By contrast, the risk of developing diabetes was less than one percent of that for either non-surgery group — a highly significant difference.
However, there was an association between bariatric surgery and death by suicide, an association that has been described in the past. The authors noted that it's unclear whether the increased suicide rate is related to the surgery itself, or might follow any large and sustained weight loss.

They can try one and see how it goes. As long as it is mushy it might work. (The tough stem is a no-go, but the tender top might be ok).
Starchy Beans are also full of fiber but they squish down nice and smooth, so they usually work well.

That is a neat calendar! I didn't have to do but 1 day of liquid diet before surgery. Just that 1 say was hard enough! I applaud your determination! !! We are all fighters here. Fighting to regain our healthy and mobility. We will stay strong and endure. You can do it!! Having those events to look forward to really help. I am going to be 58 in November and I want a pair of cowboy boots! I have not worn boots in 15+ years. I am also going to see my sisters for Christmas (they live in Las Vegas) I hope to blow them away when I come off the plane!!!. I will be playing "Mustang sally" as I do my Sandra Bullock walk from miss congeniality!! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

I am feeling good. It's been 2 weeks today yand this is my first day back at work. Moving slowly but moving!!! I am still having a hard time meeting all my water/ shakes, Vitamins and meal schedule. Hopefully being back at work I can get a routine going. I am still very bruised from all the heparin shots they were giving me and especially the very big hematoma it caused so it still looks like someone took a bat to my entire abdomen but I have no pain!!! I gained 5 lbs when I had arrived home from the hospital but as of today I have lost 21lbs. Very very pleased!☘️😎💙

If anyone knows of another app, I too would switch! I asked a question recently about having a few sips of wine at my wedding in a month (I'd be 4 months post op) and you would have thought I asked about politics! I got a few people making polite suggestions but others just ripped into me about how stupid I am for even asking this!!

I came here for support and answers to questions I am curious about but aren't worthy of a call to the doctor and would like to help others the same way!! Feel free to message me if you'd like...I'm not a genius but I'd like to think my experience can help others [emoji846][emoji846]

I literally got on the app today to ask if anyone knows of any other apps or groups out there as this one is not very supportive. I have asked questions with zero responses or the responses I had been give weren't helpful at all and filled with judgement. Good to know I'm not the only one that has noticed that.

That sure as heck sounds like dumping to me. I've experienced dumping several times after getting approved for normal food. Only once or twice did I experience the running to the bathroom. But every single time I had the drooling, slimy feeling. Sometimes there would be a foamy saliva, sometimes excessive sweating, but always a general feeling of awfulness. It is not always diarrhea and stomach cramping. Nor is it limited to the symptoms I described.
I've never heard of anyone dumping from chicken breast, but I guess it could happen if it was actually fried or smothered in some sort of sauce. Generally it is caused by a higher fat or sugar content, but simple carbs or vegetable fats (avocado) can cause it. Regardless if you experienced dumping or severe indigestion, it sucked.

Oh the bending over. I remember that. It took me a week to truly bend to pick something off the floor. If I missed I'd just ask someone to get it or use a hanger. You get inventive.
My team was more concerned with me getting in Water over Protein the first five days. After that I felt well enough to start meeting those goals but water is key and you're doing well! You'll be turning the corner soon and feeling much better. I know exactly what you mean about feeling in shock. I felt like I had mild ptsd afterwards. Again, it went away within a week. Glad you have your dad to help.

Oh my goodness yes! Throw me a Xanax my surgery is 7/24 and a lot of things are becoming real! somehow today I'm most nervous at the prospect of not being able to tolerate fruit! I had a fruit funneral! I ate a necterine and an apricot and a bunch of fruits for the week! I can't help but be sad at the thought... (I went to my very first support group which brought a mixture of anxiety fear and relief some people talked about the inability to tolerate fruit. I can handle the idea of no sugar but no fruit that's kinda crazy)...
