vange4 reacted to Bufflehead in Conflicting Nutrition Information - Whey Isolate
I think Premier used to be whey isolate a while back and they changed the formula. Perhaps the info with acceptable drinks was put together a while ago and no one knew about the change or bothered to update it?
Anyway, I know many people who drank primarily whey concentrate and did just fine. Yes, whey isolate is absorbed better by the body, but when I looked at the actual numbers for my own research, the difference didn't seem that great to me. It's not like whey concentrate is useless, it's just not quite as good as whey isolate (especially if you are lactose intolerant).
I did about 50/50 isolate and concentrate when I was in weight loss mode and I lost all my weight (200+ lbs) and never suffered from any sort of Protein deficiency or ill health. Tons of people here drink Premier Protein too! I think you will do just fine.

@@hudjess, I'm thinking of your well-being for the short term and the long term. If you believe that you're ready for surgery now, fine. It was only my thought that a few months more to regroup before surgery wouldn't be such a bad thing. (I get that the financial aspects may change because you left your job, but I wasn't thinking in terms of money.)
I expect that your therapist wrote a letter in support of surgery a while ago. Maybe another letter to refute your PCP might make a difference. I also expect that the surgery practice set you up with someone else for the psych eval and you "passed." Just throwing this out -- maybe a revisit with that person would make a difference. Another possibility is to ask the surgeon what would make the difference -- what would get you back in the OR schedule. Asking may get you some concrete info that you can work with.

Look for boxed Soups. I strolled into a Wegman's and found a bunch of Soup and broth cartons that made me weep with joy. Potato leek, Thai chicken Broth, Roasted Bone stock (I know that sounds awful, but oh my sweet baby Jesus, add a dash of hot sauce and it was MAGICAL), etc etc etc. Make sure it's smooth, not too loaded with sugar or carbs, and go to town!

Unfortunately, it appears it is definitely the norm for certain users. But you'll get to know who they are though and can just skip over their comments (that worked for me). You can get a lot of good information and positive reinforcements from most users here if you can look pass the negativity. At the end of the day these tools help us fix whats on the outside, but the inside is a whole different story. Thanks to the original poster for hopefully helping some of us avoid what sounds like a very debilitating mistake.

Newbie here and super sad to see this thread. I hope this is Not the norm. Name calling has no place on a forum like this. I believe, if you are going to respond to someone's post take a minute to really read your post before sending. Some things get lost in translation and definitely via social media. Soooo... First time posting ... My surgeon's office (Beltline Bariatrics- ATL) submits my paperwork to insurance today for gastric sleeve approval and I've gone from being super anxious to getting sooo nervous. I'd really hoped to have the procedure prior to new years to avoid extra expenses. But at this point that would require a "smooth" and swift approval, which I realize might be wishful thinking. I've put myself on the pre-op diet 4 days ago to test my will power. Oh how it's been rough (irritable as hell!!!! ), but I'm completely committed. I can see that this is going to be far from a walk in the park...
Is anyone else playing the waiting game ?

My husband doesn't want me to have the surgery. When an appointment went a few hours he told me to walk out. I didn't I stayed. This surgery is for you and your health. You have to do this for you. If you can't find support at home find it in friends and others. And support groups. Some people are just afraid of change and might try to talk you out of it.. I pray you do this, do it for you and your health.

vange4 reacted to sunnydeeliteful in Anyone drive themselves home after surgery?
I live in Tucson, it's the fact that everyone I know works and can't be there for me as there is no set day or time I will be discharged. If I can't get 64 ounces of Water down the first day I have to stay and extra day. I live o. A miniscule income and can't afford Uber or a cab. I have to give my ins co 48 hours ahead of a request for a free cab. So im in a catch 22 situation. I'll stop taking the pain meds the first day so that my system is clean and I can drive by the second day. Or ask the hospital if they have a free ride home system.

I drove myself down in a rental car the day of surgery. The hospital I was in requires you to be discharged into someones care.
I was going to have my brother pick me up and take me to Amtrak, and have my husband pick me up at the station but he veto'd that. He drove down the morning i was getting discharged and drove me back the same day.
I will be doing the same for him, except I will drive him down before the surgery too, as I will have a follow up appointment.

Nothing special really, there's nothing I don't eat, but I mainly stay high Protein low carb. For example tonight's dinner is rotisserie chicken (no skin) and a green salad with tomatoes, cucumber, and onions (and ranch dressing) For lunch today I had a homemade Soup made with with chicken and veggies, I had a banana for a snack and yogurt and coffee for Breakfast.
I eat between 800-1000 calories a day now, but I was under 700 until 2 months ago.

I used to be hot and sweaty all the time and since surgery and the loss of 152lbs, I am freezing all the time.
Seriously, even in the summer I am wearing long sleeves and covered with a light blanket in the house. If it gets bad enough, I even use a heating pad.
You learn to wear layers. For me, I would much rather be thin and cold then fat and hot. LOL.....I hated being a sweaty person that could not get cool enough.

vange4 reacted to PorkChopExpress in How did you decide your goal weight, and did you reach it?
My "goal weight" is more of a window, because I'm not as much focused on scale weight as I am how I am looking and feeling. I have an image in my mind of what I want to end up being like, and my goal weight is basically just a "jumping off point" for that. So it doesn't really demonstrate my goal, because my goal isn't a weight. It's a state of being.

I agree with akaleela. Call your ins. Co. (or go online to their website and search) & have them recommend a sleep study. Funny, I felt the same way, but once approved -, I wasn't really as in a hurry as before. It a tough road ahead, and although you are ready to start, take this extra time as a blessing in disguise. You need the sleep study, it is important. If you feel you dont and your surgery center for whatever reason being unreasonable, you can also change the surgery center usually w/o insurance problems (I did). i recommend embracing this time by practicing some of the things you will be doing post-op and even perhaps practicing the pre-op diet. For example, Many have failed or cheated on just the pre-op alone. The first time I tried, I was miserable. The second time, It was much much easier as I saw how it felt and had a better understanding by getting tips appropriately taylored to my body's needs and quirks via research. Trying to prepare what you will REALLY drink the two weeks after surgery (testing all those Soups, shakes etc..) We are all different, but that's just of course my personal perspective and experience. Either way- I wish you the best and know that you will be starting your new life of health soon enough!

You'll get there, Im considered a success story, i lost 241 pounds in 368 days. Your mileage may vary, and its been the greatest part of my life outside of my wife of course, but the point here, is literally during the first week after surgery i told my wife If i could go back and undo this I would do it. I said that repeatedly. Now id like to go back and show myself what the results can be.
    You can get there,
