I was a runner until I tore my PCL...it was one of the primary motivations for surgery. However, I was really, really active. I worked with a trainer four tines a week and never missed a day of exercise.
After surgery, I had to take six weeks off. During that time, I was only allowed walking (though at any speed and incline! ). After that, I was able to resume normal activities. It was a bit harder at first, mostly because after six weeks I'd gotten soft, but I was very quickly able to get back to where I was. You will too.

I was told not to run for 6 weeks (because of the impact/jolting). At 6 weeks, I could run with no difficulty (in terms of pain/stamina) so could pretty much go straight back to what I was doing before surgery (but I wasn't doing long sessions at that time).
Prior to 6 weeks, I took it easy and followed the advice that I was given about when I could start doing stuff.
I can't comment on the longer runs and other stuff other than to say that I still can't eat and drink together at 6 months post op (and have been advised not to in the long term) so you need to plan what you need (liquid vs nutrition/calories) with the priority on liquid. If you need significant quantities of both then you may need to use supplement drinks otherwise you will have to compromise on one or other of your needs.
Hope all goes well for you.

I had my gastric sleeve done January 11th. I weighed 333.1lbs.
I'm 10 months post op now and weigh 144.2lbs.
I've set new goal weights as I've gone along...first was just to get under 200lbs, then I thought I wanted my goal weight to be 180lbs. When I got there, I made the crazy goal of 150lbs never thinking I'd make it....but I did. So then I figured my goal would be 145lbs which puts me at a normal bmi...which I haven't been since I was around 10.
Now that I weight 144lbs, I've decided my final goal will 133lbs, which will mean I will have lost a total of 200lbs....and I'll do it, I know I can.
I never thought when I had surgery that weighing in the 130's would even be possible.
I've gone from wearing sizes 5-6x, and 28-30, now I wear smalls and mediums and am a size 8....I would be around a 6 if it wasn't for the large amount of skin I have around my stomach and thighs....but it's a price I'm more than happy to pay.
I've been extremely disciplined this whole 10 months. I can honestly say I've never put a bad food in my mouth...not once. I follow a very low carb diet still, drink about 85oz of Water every day and get in around 80oz of Protein. I take all my required Vitamins daily.
The gym has become a big part of my life. I workout around 5-6 days per week doing a variety of exercising....spin class, step  class, yoga, cardio machines....I like doing different things so I don't get bored.
Anyway, because I'm so close to goal, I just wanted to share this. And for the people who have a lot of weight to lose like I did....remember, you can do this! I'm living proof!!

Don't stock up on ANYTHING because your taste buds may change. I had surgery on Wednesday, was home on Thursday and was driving on Friday. I could get to the market to buy anything I needed.

Gatorade, a few Protein shakes, some SF popsicles and a can of broth would have been more than sufficient when I got home. I threw away a LOT of Protein powders, shakes, drink mixes, etc. because I couldn't tolerate them post op. A LOT.
Get rid of the mindset of "cheating". You're grown. You are making a major decision to have WLS. If you are eating something off plan, you are not "cheating", you are simply making a horrible CHOICE.

Will is be hard? Yup. Will it suck? Yup. Will you be constantly tempted and tortured and at times, a bit miserable. Yup. Will you wonder WTF you did to yourself and if things will ever be normal again? Yup.

Will it be worth it? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY.

Oh. And don't come to these boards, asking an enabling question (like can I eat chicken wings and pizza on my liquids stage) and get huffy when people tell you no. Your hormones will be crazy. Don't take it out on those of us who care enough to answer you straight.

The day has finally come. I'm currently sitting in the waiting room at the hospital getting ready to head into preop. I'm so excited and nervous. I've been through such a wild ride so far, and I know it's just beginning. Managed to lose 17 lbs on preop, and 111lbs since my journey began in January. Here's to the new start of the rest of my life!

mbuczkowski reacted to theantichick in How did WLS effect your marriage...
I think that any major change with one person in a marriage just highlights and exacerbates the cracks that were already there.
One of my BFF's had WLS (bypass) before I met her. Her husband was controlling and incredibly tempermental before, but things seemed to be OK before the surgery. After she lost so much weight and had a boob job, other men started paying a LOT of attention to her and her career improved dramatically. Even though she didn't do anything to encourage those other guys or compromise her marriage, her husband started getting irrationally angry at her, and things escalated to the point police had to be involved, and the divorce was super ugly. The WLS didn't cause any of it, but the underlying problems that were there got a lot worse.
I know if I'd had this when married to my Ex#2, it would have been an unmitigated disaster, if he'd even allowed me to do it. Every time I tried to get healthier in that marriage, he sabotaged it. So I know he'd have somehow kept me from doing it or continued to sabotage me.
My current hubby is awesome, and we have a great relationship. So far, it hasn't caused any tensions. We're still figuring out the whole cooking and healthier foods in the house, but we're working together to do it. He has never had any kind of real weight problem, but has put on a few pounds since we got married and his shirts aren't fitting well anymore, so he's wanting to join me with the exercise and eating healthier. We approach everything as a team, so I don't forsee any problems with the WLS. And it only took me three tries to find him!!

mbuczkowski reacted to Sajijoma in Today I am officially not "plus sized" what a colossal NSV for me!
I went shopping today because I desperately needed pants that fit. I wasn't sure what would fit so I tried on 16's and they were too big. Then I tried on 14's and they were kinda loose. I thought just for jiggles I'd try on some 12's and they fit! I was so shocked I actually broke down crying in the changing room. I have always been good at keeping my emotions locked down tight, but in there at that moment, I totally lost it and started bawling and LOUD. The changing room attendant knocked on the door and asked if I was ok. It took me awhile, but I managed to get the words out that I was ok and that I had found out I was a smaller size than I thought I was. I'M sure she thought I had lost my ever loving mind, but for me, this is a monumental thing. I had been an overweight kid and an obese adult, my entire life! The size I put on and zipped up, I NEVER had been that size. The closest I had to being that size was a size 11 juniors in 4th grade, so here I am, over 30yrs later and I am finally smaller than I was in 4th grade. It was monumental. I also discovered why it's important to check the price tag before falling in love with a pair of pants because $115 for a pair of pants I probably won't get more than a couple months wear out of was just too much, so I had to put them back. Broke my heart, but I did go on to find other 12's and some 14's that worked and I am officially not plus sized anymore. I can shop in the regular section with all the cute clothes!❤️ From 32/34 and some 36 down to a size 12 in less than a year...all I can say is wow! Thanks RNY for giving me a life I didn't know was attainable!

For sleeve? In Boca, FL Dr Shillingford is 10,500. That's the lowest I have seen state side.
I am researching here in Orlando and it's 14,500

I can only speak for my experience with Dr Shillingford and his office but they did everything to make my life easier. I had an initial phone consult with Nancy and she schedule a phone consult with Dr Shillingford. I did my two week pre op diet and the Friday before my surgery I went down and had an appointment with the Dr just to meet him and his staff and go over any questions/concerns I had. I went and did my pre op lab work the same day and then on Monday I had my surgery.
They made it very convenient to only have to drive down once.
His staff Nancy and Elba are amazing. I can email them and I know I'll get an answer within a few hours. They are super kind and knowledgeable.
Also depending on if you go down on the right weekend. A woman from the hospital does a seminar on Saturdays. She goes over everything to expect. Unfortunately I went on a weekend that she didn't have class... the great thing is that she came to my hospital room and sat down with my husband and myself and went over everything.
The hospital is good. The bariatric staff was really nice and took really good care of me. Bariatric patients have their own wing and everyone gets their own room. Also visiting hours are 24/7 so if someone is accompanying you, they can stay in the hospital with you and you don't have to pay for a room at a hotel if your budget conscious.
Anyway that's enough ranting for now. If you have any questions please message me, I'm most certainly happy to talk with you about the Dr and what to expect with him!

I had surgery in Boca Raton and I live in Tampa. I had a 2 day hospital stay and went home right after being discharged
Had no issue sitting in the car. You just have to get out every hour and walk around. It makes you feel better plus circulation to prevent blood clots.
I was self pay too. Dr's in Tampa wanted 27k but I paid 10.5k in Boca.

I decided to not have the surgery after my GI doctor talked me out of it. I have found a health program and have gotten rid of 110 lbs. so far. Now, I am starting to research plastic surgeons for breast reduction and possible upper arm, thigh work.
