Had my first post op visit today. Everything is going great! Everything seems to be healing well. They think my drains (some if not all) will get to come out on Tuesday. Today they just cleaned the sites and put new stickers down to help hold them in place. Next Friday I'll get the tape removed from my incisions and start the scar care routine.

I'm starting to be able to walk upright just a bit more, but not totally straight yet. They told me to play it by ear, and listen to my body. If I'm not feeling pain, I can continue to straighten up more.

TMI - but I finally had a BM today. I ended up needing an enema, which I did at home. Really haven't been taking much as far as narcotics, but despite colace twice daily, Fiber, increased Fluid, Miralax, and two doses of milk of magnesia I still couldn't go. I was starting to get really uncomfortable to the point t it was causing some pain, so I decided to do the enema. It worked, and I felt to much better.

I still tire out pretty quickly. I don't like being "lazy" but know I need to let my body heal so I rest frequently and take naps a lot. My husband has been so supportive and amazing helping with all the things I can't do. I'm really hoping by next week I'll have more stamina!

After my visit I took my garments off to snap a quick update picture. Of course I'm still super swollen, but LOVING my results so far!

This whole processing has been such a blessing, and can't wait to see continued changes as I heal more. [emoji173]️

I have had a barium swallow. They found I have a hiatus hernia which is basically making everything 10x worse. The hiatus hernia is causing terrible acid reflux which in turn is irritating the muscles in my oesophagus causing them to contract not allowing the food through or causing me to vomit. I've been referred to a GI specialist in the U.K. and put back on a liquid diet. Hopefully they will operate to fix the hernia and my symptoms will improve. Still can't eat very much at this current time. But I knew something was wrong.

    Welcome!
You are losing at a normal rate as a 'lightweight' with a sleeve. I assume you've been sleeved since this is posted in the gastric sleeve forum.
When's the last time you previously lost 15 pounds per month through the old-fashioned way of diet and exercise? I suspect the answer is "Never."
You started at 200 pounds. Please realize you'll never be one of those people who loses 30+ pounds monthly like a house on fire because you weren't that morbidly obese to begin with. The bigger the person, the faster they tend to lose.
Realistic expectations are important during your weight loss journey. You didn't exactly become 200 pounds overnight and it will not fall off overnight, either. In fact, expect the rate of weight loss to slow the hell down from this point forward.
I started at 218 pounds and had lost 27.5 pounds at 2 months out, so you are actually losing at a faster rate than me. After the first 2 months I lost at an average rate of 3 to 6 pounds monthly. However, I'm pleased with the final result: I lost 100 pounds and have kept it off so far.
    Good luck to you.

Sure, I'm happy the most painful part is over, no regrets, I knew what I was getting into, it just sucks for about two days.

    And I'm sure I'
ll be happier and happier as I heal and the pain goes away and the weight drops.

Just saying, it's no walk in the park. Or no picnic.

Basically it's no picnic in the park that you walked to.

It's kinda like, someone knocked your ass out, stabbed you six times in the gut and you woke up in the hospital unable to eat anything or sleep at all.

I drink coffee, actually I live off coffee. I don't do Decaf.
    You want low acid coffee.
French Roast is lower acid than most coffee
Cold Brew is low acid and it is as smooth as iced tea, this is your best option. Cold Brew is not iced coffee, it is brewed with cold Water over 12-24 hours.
There are specific low acid coffee brews. TJ has a low acid french roast.
This is my current low acid coffee

It is as smooth as cold brew, almost too smooth, lol.

While I've lost 20 lbs on pre op and first post op week, my clothes fit fine. I'm wondering on average how many pounds one loses to need to go down a size. I know it is too soon for me to think of this, but some of you have dropped a LOT of sizes. When did it start? Was there a consistent number of pounds that slid you down the next size?

It really depends on how large you are. It also depends on where you lose it from.
It took me about 40 pounds to lose a size at first. Plus sizes are cut huge and honestly most people are squeezing into their clothes pre-op and are larger than the size they are wearing.
In regular sizes I lose a size every 5 to 10 pounds depending on where the weight comes from.

    Hello fam,
just a Lil update on my life . 7 months post op. I was sleeved Dec 5. I am officially divorced now. I am happy n really enjoying me in this new bod. The surgery wasn't the reason for my divorce ,my husband was a caterer cheater , lol. But the surgery made him feel that now I was a threat in the marriage because I was getting attention . But it was his insecurities n lied that kept him from appreciating the woman he had. So , hell with him, I'm single as a dollar bill now.
I am 7 mos post op and down 90 lbs ( 89.7 to be exact). I weigh 153 lbs and I am 5'7. I now wear a size 4 in women's clothing and even fit into size 2 Vera wang dress today, NSV for me. My surgeon set my goal at 150 lbI feel so good about the choice I made to have this surgery and I would do it 10 more time if I had to. Enjoy the pics and good lock to everyone .

There have been some interesting side effects post op.
I care much more about myself.
I've cut my hair to my shoulders (I'm sure I kept it long to "hide").
I've had my nails and toes done.
I've bought new clothes, perfume, jewelry.
I've gone to the dentist and had some cosmetic work done along with a good cleaning.
All of this keeps compounding and helping my self esteem.
I laugh and smile more. I move more. I'm friendlier.
I wasn't expecting any of these side effects!

    Hi everyone!
So its been exactly 6 months since my surgery. I started out with 220 pounds, and now im 149. (150 is my nuts goal, i might want to keep losing a little more).
Through excercising and training, i have managed to do things i never thought my body could do like run for more than 1 mile now, or go up the stairs all the 11 floors to work.
At my highest i couldnt fit in my size 14 and xl clothes, now i wear size 8/6 and s/m
    I couldnt be happier.

I get what you're saying. I decided a long time ago that I had to make the time. I do work from home (unless I am traveling for work), and that helps, but I have to stay on top of it every day. My way isn't for everyone, but it is what I have to do for me. I had to make food a fuel source to deal with the issues with it I have had my entire life.

    Dear Amethyst,

Don't beat yourself up. Your body has gone through massive physical trauma and you will have undergone significant hormonal changes - depression is a perfectly natural response - and a side effect you can overcome.

If you can find a therapist - someone who specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) should be really useful if you need help with the choices you are making. Little Lizxie's advice is good to, sunlight and exercise have positive physiological effects that will help boost your mood.

But it's really important not to feel guilty. You've been brace and honest and there are an awful lot of people like you who have the same anxieties and feelings - they just haven't shared them.

Good luck, get some help to make some positive changes and try to think of this as part of the journey.

2.5 months post sleeve, finishing off a night of swing dancing in a size L dress in the mid 160s.
The difference here isn't just the weight and size, but the fact that old me NEVER would have been doing weekly swing dancing lessons and going to social dances! I'm not only smaller, I have a genuinely better quality of life! Oh and the picture was taken by a new friend of mine who I met through a post-op support group! We do all kinds of activities together that don't revolve around food. I love it!

I am surprised reading the many comments in direct conflict with this post. It is my experience it is what we should all be working towards. Eating "what your want, when you want" does not mean binge without consequence, rather it means listening to your body and trust it to tell you what you need or want when and how much. Our bodies have amazing and complex feedback loops, but all of us spent years ignoring them and eating for emotional reasons, not physical ones. Relearning to listen and to trust your feedback loops is the ideal state of being. A constant diet mentality with or without surgery is not healthy or ideal, and statistically speaking won't work. I also realize learning to listen to your feedback loops and not your emotions is a difficult transition that should not be attempted when in the weight loss phase, but to maintain that phase I think it is essential.

Hi guys, I thought I share my story...
I had my sleeve procedure on the 6th June 2017 (80% of the stomach was removed, with no complications) when I waked up I was in so much pain I literally had tears pouring out of my eyes while in the recovery unit, it was so bad that I also was shaking... however after getting some pain relief and forcing myself to walk within 30 min of leaving the recovery unit I could clearly see the pain is was due to the gases and my inability to move around. With some help of my lovely wife, I walked around the hospital for 45 min and it was the best thing I ever did. I went from 10/10 pain to 2-4/10, I continued that routine for the day and was discharged one day post OP.
On day 2 post OP, I due to the liquid intake and due to the medication intake end up throwing back which was a lesson learned and a scary one too..
As of now I am on day 3 post OP and have had greatly reduced pain apart from the slight pressure and uncomfortableness due to the wound holes around my stomach, which is expected to due the size and trauma.
I have been able to go for little walks and do just about any activity at home where there is no need to bend over while I am on leave from work to recover. I still have issues sitting down in on a seat or when I am trying to lay down or get up which is ok I guess as this puts pressure on the wound holes.
I just wanted to say that the experience can greatly vary from person to person
On the food/liquid intake side of things, I am now day 3 post OP and can tolerate, jelly, juices (100%), ice creams (ice blocks) etc
The only thing at the moment which I have and is annoyance is the drastic reduction of liquid I can take, at about 45ml per 30 min otherwise I start with the hiccups and then the dreadful Throw up
Also, I also make sure that any liquid taken must be taken while I am in an upright position followed by a little walk to reduce any throwback..
Below you will see my picture at day 3 post OP, and weight at about 120kg.
