CindyZee reacted to vannababyy22 in Anxiety and depression
I suffered from mental illness my entire life and it seemed those first three weeks after surgery it was awful, depression, anxiety attacks. It's hard when food was always that coping mechanism, for me anyways. Honestly I'm almost done here with week 5 and I seem to be doing much better, I still have panic attacks but they aren't as frequent.
Try and remember why you did this in the first place, you did it to be a better version of yourself, to be a healthier you. You got this!

CindyZee reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Why We Were Obese: Our Community Speaks Out
Good observations.
One thing I have been thinking about lately, especially with many of the issues that are being brought to the surface because of the US political campaign is sexual abuse.
I know a large part of my obesity is the result of me building a literal wall against unwanted attention/pain.
Even though I never experienced overt sexual abuse, the memories of bullying, ostracism, ridicule, unwanted comments, catcalls, rejection, harassment, and discrimination are very vivid. Much of it because I am female, but more so because I am a fat female.

CindyZee reacted to Sai in Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery
Perhaps have a 2nd opinion. Just to see what another surgeon thinks. Do you have GERD? I have heard people with severe GERD don't usually get the sleeve but bypass instead (I think?)

I'm heading to TJ the first Sunday in December for my surgery. I've done a lot of research and I feel good about my decision.
