I get it if I eat too fast. It's very unpleasant but still not nice
Learning to listen to my body more
As for food going cold. I use a mini plate warmer with a tea light underneath. After 20 min of eating my food is still hot and sometimes its still cooking lol

I am only 1 day post op and it happens when I take my pain meds. So I also take my anti nausea/vomiting med and a gas x, and those seem to help tremendously

1 rough 45min stretch post-op the first night home, needed pain meds but only took twice once home. Slept in my recliner the rest of the night, felt much better than flat bed.
    Diabetic Meds - Gone!!!
    Acid Reflux - Gone!!!
    Back Pain - Gone!!

No Fast food in over 3 months!!!
    Not hungry, no cravings!!!
My wife has stated that I have a positive disposition and have tackled this in the right manner.
Doctor and nurses all say I am making great progress.
I have moved beyond the purée stage and working to learn the soft diet stage. Taking my time!!!
    Advice to others....
1 - Go to Support Group before/after surgery and get comfortable
2 - Find a person to share progress.
3 - Go to the grocery store and read labels.
4 - Walk, Walk, Walk - Advance to cardio machines if you have access
    5 - Water, Water, Water
6 - Protein ( I started Protein shakes 2 months before just to get use to them)
7 - Be Patient (Trust the process)
    8 - Vitamins and supplements
9 - Plan ahead (this was my weaknesses prior to surgery and one day after - I learned quick)
10 - Challenge your tastebuds to try new healthy foods!!!!

    Comprehensive sex ed instructor here.
You know what we call people who use the pull-out/rhythm method?
    Parents.
(it's a joke, but not really)
As others have pointed out, fertility increases a LOT after surgery. And getting pregnant soon after is not a good idea if it can be helped.
There are many other options besides condoms.
    IUD
whatever the latest version of the implant is (used to be Norplant, now it's Implanon, I think?)
    cervical cap/diaphragm w/ spermicides
spermicides (low on my list for reliability)
    the Pill
some docs will still do a depo-provera shot (good if you don't want anything as long-term as IUD or implant)
    Things to consider
for the Pill - will you be able to take it consistently at about the same time every day?
for cap/diaphragm/spermicides - will you want to deal with the mess?
I *strongly* suggest you speak to your doctor about the need to be on birth control for AT LEAST a year (though your surgeon has the best information about how long is best to wait) and get his/her input because you may have medical contraindications for one or more of these options.
I personally LOVE my IUD (Mirena), but if I didn't have it I would go on the Pill for a year or two, consider the implant, or go on depo shots for a year or two -- but your doctor can give you the best advice based on your personal situation. I had Norplant years ago and it did great for about 3 years, then I started having issues and had it taken out.
As for how long after surgery, I think I was about 4 weeks out before we had sex, the tummy was just too tender before that.

jwidner reacted to Babbs in Are revisions REALLY necessary?
I found myself at a WLS regain support group site someone had recommend in another thread just to check it out, and read this comment the founder of the regain program said about revisions:
"If I had a dime for everyone who asks about ‘a Revision’, I would not have to work. Even if you need a revision due to a mechanical band failure, you still ate your way through the first surgery. If do not change the way you eat and have more surgery, you will eat your way through that one as well. More surgery is not the answer. Bariatric surgery is not a dam that is built to hold back the deluge FOREVER, it’s meant to hold back our eating and remove the bulk of the weight burden while we get our act together!"
I know this is going to be a touchy subject for some, but what are your thoughts about the above statement? I have always agreed with her sentiment, but also don't like to paint everyone with the same broad brush because just like with anything, there are always special circumstances.
    What say you?

I lost pretty fast at 1st by 6 months in I had already lost over 100 pounds. It has slowed a bit but still has not stopped I am still losing around 10 to 12 pounds a month and shedding inches which I am a okay with it is giving my skin a chance to play catch up. I also put in work I walk 5 miles a day M-F, do weight training 2 times a week and hip hop fitness 2 times a week. I also pretty much stick to Protein because I still cannot eat much so I have to make sure I get that in daily and it is pretty much all I have room for. It was a learning curve (trial and toilet) but I know now when my belly says stop I do

I am so happy today I was sleeved this time last year on this day at 387 pounds and felt like I was headed to my death bed if I didn't make some changes. This is by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. I hit onederland (199) today as well and have surpassed all of my surgeons expectations. That is a total weight loss of 188 pounds and from a size 32 to a 14 in 1 year never thought I would see the scale for myself under 200 again. I feel great I exercise everyday and I am not dying of starvation! LOL! The best part is I think for the 1st time in my adult life I am truly happy and not just hiding behind a smile.

Good point about the eating so slow the food gets cold. That was a major turn off from food for me when I first started eating more solid food, was it getting cold not even halfway through the meal. But I've learned to use that also as a tool, so if I'm getting through a portion of hot/warm food, I know it should be cool/cold around 3/4 through, that tells me I'm done.

About an hour after I was transferred from the surgery recover room to my own hospital room, the staff brought me a tray with all sorts of drinks, most with straws, and told me to start sipping. I followed orders, drinking with straws -- never had any problems with them.
I stopped using straws once I went home from the hospital, because I've never liked them (I think my mother convinced me that straws, like chewing gum and birthday parties, were things that were fine for small children but should be stopped after elementary school). But when I was using them in the hospital they gave me no issues whatsoever.

I use straws. My doc said that some people do well (even better) with straws, some don't. She said that the biggest downside to straws is the discomfort from swallowing air, but it's not dangerous. She let me use a straw from day 1 if I didn't have additional discomfort from it.
Some people have instructions from their docs to never use a straw again, and their docs say that it can cause problems.
If you search in this forum, you'll find heated and lengthy discussions about straw use. Many people here use them without issue.

Get to KNOW him first! You have no idea who or what he is actually about yet. Go sllllloooooowwwww. And then slower still.
No amount of anything can take the place of knowing what makes a person tick, what brings them joy, or sorrow. Only time gives you that. And hey! You may 1) not like him after you get to know him or 2) find yourself with a casual, occasional date/partner OR 3) find the person of your dreams.
But the only thing that will get you there is time... Talking, sharing, and such.
He is actively dating- and so, too should you be until you mutually decide differently.
