Redmaxx got a reaction from mrich612 in Day 4 of my new life.
Today is day 4 of my new life. I slept so much better at home last night than at the hospital. I had to do the leak test twice and that stuff they have you drink is beyond horrible. I still haven't been hungry at all but eat like I was instructed.

You will get used to it. The first few days is the hardest. Just hang in there! I started Multivitamins right away..found that helped with the energy (I use the patches).

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. Prior to surgery I sweated profusely. Even when the temperatures approached 32 degrees F, I would drive around with the car window open. When I worked outdoors, I would come in and my shirt was totally soaked.
After surgery, this condition went away. I no longer sweat profusely. But on the flip side, I do feel the cold, the chill in my bones. Thank God someone invented hand warmers for when I shovel snow in the wintertime.

OK, I don't know if this is true or not but I found this on a website: "the bypassed stomach remnant or body remains present because it still has important jobs to do – namely the production of digestive enzymes and juices and hormones which still play an important role in digestion and metabolism. Removing the stomach would increase the invasiveness and risks, magnitude and recovery time of surgery markedly and bring very minimal advantage."

My surgery is Monday! I'm so excited! I've done lots of research and scoured the forums here, but one thing I can't find and didn't think to ask at my pre-op appointment is:
How come the unused part of the stomach, that is still in there and functioning, doesn't make you feel hungry all the time because it's always empty?

Just thought I'd share a study I found in one of my medical journey subscriptions. Interesting read!
Sleeve Gastrectomy Improves Testosterone Levels in Obese Men
    Thu, 10/08/15 - 11:39
Sleeve gastrectomy can normalize testosterone levels in men with obesity-related hypogonadism, according to a recent study.
Previous research has suggested both the potential benefits of bariatric surgery to overall health and potential adverse effects of testosterone replacement therapy. For this reason, researchers aimed to investigate the effects of surgery-related weight loss on serum testosterone and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.

In their study, they followed 24 men undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, measuring their serum testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and PSA levels before surgery, then again 3, 6, and 12 months after.
Overall, the amount of men in the study with low serum testosterone levels dropped from 63% to 41% 12 months after surgery.
“Our cohort experienced a significant increase in average serum testosterone as quickly as 3 months after sleeve gastrectomy and by 12 months, this value had increased from 295 to 423 ng/dL (p=0.003). DHEA showed a trend toward increase, from 12.8 to 39.6 ng/mL (p=0.12) and serum PSA concentration rose over 12 months from 0.62 to 0.75 ng/mL (p=0.047) with no change in PSA mass.”
“The take home message is that if you are an obese man with low testosterone your therapy should be weight loss not testosterone replacement, and a successful way to achieve meaningful weight loss is through a bariatric operation,” they concluded.
“This is a unique and beneficial finding for sleeve gastrectomy hasn’t been studied before, demonstrating for the first time, that testosterone levels are improved in a group of obese male patients following sleeve gastrectomy.”

    Hi Missbeautry16
I had my RNY 3 years ago. I am one of the lucky because I still have no physical hunger at all. BUT....wuth that being said I still fight mind hunger!! It really it's sad that the WLS doesn't fix our heads!! I also didn't have much gas after my surgery. I have gas now but I use PAPAYA ENZYMES and they have absolutely have saved my life. I did become LACTOSE INTOLERANT but some dairy doesn't bother me. Strange but true. Now the best advice I have is KEEP YOUR EYES ONN THE PRIZE!! Remember why you are having this done. Follow everything that your Surgeon and nutritionist guidelines. Everything they tell you help. The Preop helps with your liver. It shrinks it so the DR can get in and do what he needs to do, the have to move it around so if it's smaller there is less chance of bleeding. Postop everything they tell you to do about the stages of food do them. You just had major surgery and our new pouches need time to heal. After your surgery, you will need to sip and sip some more it is very important to get your fluids in the small pouch makes it so easy to get dehydrated quickly. Also get up and walk as soon and as often as you can. I hope this helps you and I look forward to following your journey. Good Luck

I totally understand new confidence and an absolute love of the new attention. Here are my thoughts about this situation:
    - if you're this close to straying, maybe your current girlfriend is not the best match for you.
    - would this new girl you like have been interested in you however many pounds ago? Would she have given you a second look before? Is that something that would bother you?
    - the attention you're getting now is utterly superficial. the attention your girlfriend gave(gives) you is not.
the bottom line is that if you are able to seriously lust after someone who is not your so and are even contemplating leaving her for greener pastures, you're really not doing you or her any favors by continuing this way. You're just limiting yourself and you're making her watch as you slowly slip away from her, who loved you before you dropped weight, to other people who are only interested in you now that you're more conventionally attractive.
Good luck to you. These are the issues no doctor ever mentions, and no one can really help us with after major weight loss. We have to recreate entire new self-images and identities. Just make sure you're keeping a little perspective while that's happening.

Firstly, you look great.. But secondly, remember who's been there when you were bigger and loved you regardless. Remember who helped you through surgery and recovery.. And has put up with this process and held your hand every step of the way. New attention is good, but remember who was there and what that means.
