I agree with you, and it is sad. This isn't a contest. And people that weigh 200 (depending on height) can still be morbidly obese so I don't understand the mindset that they don't deserve surgery or accolades for being successful in the journey.
That is why my sister does not know about my surgery - a niece had a lapband about 5 years ago and she remarked that 'Debbie was not fat enough to need wls.' What! None of your beeswax girl. She is also the sister that laments over and over about how hard it is to lose 10 pounds because of menopause and that she is sooo fat, and hates her gut because she has never been fat until now. She may have a pudge belly but she is not in any danger of being fat, wears a size 8.

    Venting*** sorry
So i'm in several other online support groups right. And i've started volunteering at my local surgery center support group too.
But lately in 2 of my other online support groups i've been seeing a ton of negativity and body shaming smaller sleevers/ by passers. It's so rude to me.
I just feel so bad for anyone that has to go through that. Someone recently posted something about people being in the 200's not needing wls, and that they should not post their before and afters.
First off, aren't we all having the same struggle? Both physically and mentally.
Secondly, nobody really knows another person's reasoning behind their decision. If your insurance is paying for it, it is because they are obese and possibly have other co morbidies. So i'm all for any and anyone feeling like they need to make a change to keep the weight off and get healthier.
I just think some people should attempt to be a bit more open minded or just not say anything. This post i'm referring to literally started a cyber war, which is so crazy to me. Nobody would ever judge someone for being much larger and deciding to go down the wls route...just saying.
I think everyone should feel welcomed and supported.

It's official! I'm stark RAVING cra! (short trip)
Today, after 89 dayum days in the 230's decade, I saw 229.2lbs on the scale! Wahhhhhoooooo!!!!! I'm so happy, I just had to share and since I've no idea (can't remember) how to make a new Status Update, I figured I could rave about it and party here in the Rants & Rave Room!
I'm only a few pounds from -60lbs (most recent) loss, and only a few pounds from being 100lbs down from my highest weight! Can you tell I'm happy?
(Did I mention it was 89 freakin' days long???!!!)

Thanks everyone. It’s been really hard on me dealing with my parents being totally against this and making comments about how sad it would be if my children loose their mother. It was freaking me out. But my husband fully supports me and I’ve decided to go for it. Surgery is the day after Christmas!!

Hello, new to the group. I am currently starting my journey to have a gastric sleeve done hopefully in the spring time. I am looking forward to this to help me with keeping the weight off and living a longer life. I am from Texas .

Brand-new and a little more than a week pre-op (insurance approval pending, so fingers crossed)
A little nervous, but mostly excited. I'm happy that I found this site; everyone is so helpful and supportive, which I really need right now!

Hello everyone. I had my VSG on 08-31-17 and I am down 80 pounds. I am happy the weight is coming off but things have been very hard. My wife and I got sleeved together and we have had lots of issues these past few months. We have come close to divorcing. Also, I am in recovery and had been sober for 9 years. I relapsed two weeks ago and I think not being able to abuse food anymore played a huge part in that. I am back in AA but the relapse just caused more issues for my wife and I. Don’t expect the surgery to fix all of your problems because it won’t.

Nope, you have other co-morbidities. So just go for it, it's not about being super tiny, it's about feeling your best and being the healthiest you can be. The choice is always yours but given what you just said all of those other health problems would go away if you had the surgery. You've already come this far.

I had to actually eat myself to the appropriate BMI in order to get my insurance to cover it, because i did not have any other health problems. But it was the best decision i've ever made for myself, 1 year later and i couldn't be healthier and happier. It changed my life, and i wouldn't call it a drastic change. You would be bettering yourself.

Congrats!!! The process is definitely annoying but so worth it! You're lucky your insurance only requires just a few diet classes. It varies from person to person. You'll do fine with the eval too, don't stress. I personally found it to be more useful after surgery, because you learn why you were eating the way you were before and learn how to control it which i needed. And it was nice because when i do need more help, i can always go back to that person if needed. Best of luck to you, you'll do great!

It does. But once you actually have the surgery your whole entire outlook on food will change anf your appetite will go away. It's funny because pre-op everyone dreds the liquid diet but the first few weeks post op, you won't even be thinking about food. It will seem like a chore to eat.

    I absolutely love these questions.

It's simple, we just don't want anyone in our business. The last thing i care to hear is have everyone in my life watch me like a hawk to see how much i've lost, or what i'm eating like i'm a freaking alien. Plus if i hear someone judge me and tell me i'm taking the easy way out, i'll have quite a few words for them too.

Give me credit for something positive instead like taking control of my life back, eating right, working out like crazy. If those things alone were easy, obesity wouldn't be such a problem.

Plus it also affects some of my friendships too from a jealousy perspective.

Try counting your macro nutrients (not just calories) and drink tons of Water. Get in the habit of working out at least 3x per week. Start at whatever level you're comfortable with. You can also try a pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks. But whatever you do eat, make sure it's Protein rich, very low carbs and 5g of sugar or less. It sounds like you're on track though, the more you stress, the more the pounds stay where they are so also try things to clear your head and make you feel better mentally.

I've been fat my whole life so this is new to me. The fact that i'm actually a small still blows my mind, but yet the scale still says im overweight smh. I'm still going to view this as a victory.
