kathy Garibay reacted to The New Kel in Breaking-up with you, food. It's not you, it's me.
Dear Bad food Habits, (love of my life and lifelong comforter),
This is sad but I'm breaking up with you, at least I'm taking a long time out and I know our relationship will never be the same. The cloud of delusion is lifting about us, our relationship, just two short weeks after my surgery.
Let me start by saying you have always been there for me. When my parents weren't there, when I felt alone, and then in the good time too, when I celebrated, when I was happy, stressed, let's face it. You were there as my go-to for any emotion, really. And I loved you, a bit too much. The problem with our relationship, Bad Food, is that it's dysfunctional. You confort me immensley but you leave me empty later, feeling guilty. There is no true substance in what you give me. What I take from you has hurt me physically and emotionally for 30 years and the end result is isolation from my own life, neglecting friends and family functions, hiding away. I am ashamed at what our relationship has done to me.
I have come to realize that almost every single activity of my waking life evolved around you, the thought of you, the joy and happiness that I felt when I knew I would have you again. It is this dysfunction that I have to change, Bad Foods. Its not you, it's me. No one ever forced you into my mouth repeatedly. I chose you.
It's not easy but I am taking steps to refocus, away from you and towards things that make me healthier. Surgery was just the first step.
Look, I know I will never forget you, afterall you were my first and longest love!I will continue to see you everywhere, you can't be overlooked. Fastfood restaurants, the bakeries, the parties, football Sundays. You have an allure and charm that has worked on my like magic and I have become addicted. My family still loves you so you will be in our home sometimes. But my relationship with you is over, in terms of the way we were.
You know what? I think we can still be friends, and we might even hang out on rare occasions. But not for a long while. I need to get right in the head.
Good bye, I'll miss you, my lifelong comfort.
    The New Kel

Hello, I'm coming up on my 1st year anniversary post op and am slipping like crazy. It's not that I don't want to keep going. It's that I have energy to go out and do more and I'm reverting to old bad habits. Any advice anyone could give me would be so greatly appreciated. I'm in desperate need of a mentor as I still have so far to go

    My Weight Loss Journey
Today, I’m 51 pounds lighter than I was when I started my weight loss journey in the beginning of 2016.
My story is not an instant overnight success. I did take so called magic diet pills and they did not work, try all the fad diets and achieved temporary results. After six years of up and down weigh lost and gain, I decided in March of 2016 to have Bariatric Surgery (the Sleeve). The best birthday gift I could have given myself (life). March was the beginning of this new exciting journey and in the process I changed my expected results and goals from a quick fix, and focus on healthy eating, working out, and dedication to using the tool that I have been given.
To sum it up, my weight loss journey over the last six years has been more like a never-ending roller coaster ride. Full of emotions, fad diets, diet pills, mistakes, inconsistencies, fail follow-through, pitfalls, and self-sabotage. Finally, I have reached a small milestone of success, a willingness to committee, and determination, which will eventually fulfil my weight loss goal. I am very happy that I made the decision to live. #healthy lifestyle #tone-body #an improved version of me #healthy mentally and spiritually.

    Howdy and welcome!
Firstly- many congratulations and kudos for taking this huge step!!!! You're on the losers bench now!!!
Secondly, don't ever compare your loss with anyone else's. This is YOUR journey! Embrace each step, each tiny victory!
Thirdly, the surgery works ONLY and if only you work it! Follow your meal plans to the letter. Work yourself up to your Protein and Fluid requirements ( yes, hard the first few weeks). Don't deviate. Don't try to push the limits. Understand that the surgery was simply a tool afforded to you to attain your ultimate goal- health!
Finally, the first couple of weeks your body is adjusting to the changes. Allow it to heal completely and get on board with the new tummy you have.
Best of luck to you!!! Only YOU can make this happen- and you'll do just fine!

I just used Crystal Light packets or the generic version from the grocery. I drank them for several months before surgery, but after surgery I could no longer stand the taste. So, now I just drink plain Water and it's totally fine. I track my water intake using an app on my phone to make sure I'm getting enough. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

kathy Garibay reacted to Boudala in Isopure make anyone else throw up?
I had my sleeve done yesterday morning at 9am... at the surgical center I just had ice chips and sips of Water. They were understaffed so they discharged me last night at 8pm. Started having Isopure last night after getting home...and my nausea went into overdrive. I am taking the anti nausea dissolvable pills and oxycodine in liquid for for pain. This morning when I tried to sip the isopure to get some Protein in I instantly knew I was going to throw up. I went and stood at the sink was to scared to strain my abdomen and held it back. Then just now the same thing happened only I couldn't hold it back and threw up what little was in me and the pain of throwing up was soooo terrible. I don't think I can drink the isopure... what should I do?

The freezing thing is totally normal. Many of us go though that. I joke and say I lost all my insulation. I personally don't eat the frozen meals due to the carbs and sodium levels in them. I prefer to eat fresh foods that I cook myself. Many people cook ahead for a week at a time to make it easier and save time.

Stay mobile and drink Water, crystal light or diet Snapple. The pain will soon dissipate and you will soon have the sweet taste of weight loss. There is nothing like it. Best of luck

In addition to therapy and counseling, you may also want to consider exploring Overeaters Anonymous. There are meeting lists and other resources, like podcasts, online at OA.org.
A good book you may want to read is EAT IT UP!
There are other books that you may find helpful, Luke anything by Geneen Roth.

Many of us know that we turn to food for comfort but we dont always "realize" it until we cant during this journey. Some will return to comforting themselves with food after a period of time because they do not acknowledge what is happening.
We have a period of time where we can learn and fix this problem and now is that time.
So what can you do to cope?
    Journal...your feelings and whats happening
    Get professional help if necessary
    Visit a website called AMIHUNGRY.COM
distract your self in any way...read a book...adult coloring...go for a walk...learn a new hobby. Anything that will get your mind off the food.
Keep busy during these times. The best thing you can do for your self is recognize the situations. Write them down and learn a new habit.
It is the hardest thing we do for ourselves but we habe the opportunity to do it in order to make changes that last for what ever time we have left on this earth.

So tonight was a very bad evening for me. Something that happened got my old triggers awake which would normally make me go buy myself a binging dinner to make me feel good again, . but now with the sleeve I cannot do that and I have no idea what to turn to when this happens. I don't have many friends, no S.O, no parents left to talk to . so really went into panic mode . I should probably seek some help for this but I don't know. I'm sur I'M not the only one who have this issues. how do people deal with that?

I actually had second thought many times throughout my 2 wk preop liquid phase. I wondered if I could really do it or not. I pushed through and jumped in with both feet and did it. I can't honestly say that I made the right decision yet as it is too early to tell. Last night I ran a 102.4 temp and have gained 5 lbs in 24 hours. I believe the fever was a result of a virus lurking around instead of it connecting to my surgery. As far as the weight gain, I have no idea....I look 8 months pregnant....and feel it too. I'll post more updates on my experience. We will get through this together! Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App
