I have no regrets at all. I'm in the best shape of my adult life and I am finally living the life that I was meant to live.
All of the hard work and sacrifice is worth it. food is just food, and it isn't worth all the misery that obesity brings with it!

Today I hit 95 lbs. on the scale. Almost to 6 month mark. I notice I do get cold quickly now. I've also started the shedding hair process, but I have a ton of hair so its not noticeable right now.

There was a chick on the 600 lb Life thread trolling me. She said people are fat because they're lazy, yet she got fat. When I called her on her bs she and some weirdo started trying to backtrack and deny it. Then they said they were going to ignore me but kept talking about me expecting me not to reply...Losing weight is hard enough without that kinda crap

The funny this is about people that hate let me break it down. First off I gained weight after I left the Navy due to being single father, stress etc, doesn't matter... I always knew how to eat healthy, workout etc...just because you aren't doing something right don't come at me... I was 381 April 1st got down to 369 the day of my surgery on April 12th and now I'm 280.... I'm happy I can walk 5 miles a day and drink Water, Protein etc and I love sweet tea I eat I just know not to eat wrong....

Hi! I'm 5'2.5" and 63 years old. When I met my primary care physician in September 2016, I weighed 272 lbs. I met with my surgeon in October. I had my sleeve surgery May 3, 2017 and weighed 254. I was so worried that I wasn't going to lose much weight because of my age. At first, I didn't think I was losing fast enough, but then I really started doing well. This morning, when I got on the scale, it said I weighed 199.6!!!!! I have not weighed in the 100's since I don't remember when. I am so happy I did this. I feel so much better Healthwise and I am off most medications. I also have hypothyroidism.

Get some benefiber and stool softeners. Constipation was the bane of my recovery. I'm at seven weeks post and finally think I have it resolved.

mewoobie reacted to XYZXYZXYZ1955 in How did you choose your goal weight?
I set mine at just over a normal BMI; it's the weight I was during college, at my lowest adult weight. But I do have intermediate goals: first is to lose 100 pounds. The next is to get under 200--still a very long way off. But I'll just see what happens as time goes by--the real goal is to be healthier. Everything else is just gravy (and how silly is it that so many expressions involve food? ). I'd express what I really want, after better health, as feeling better and looking better. The number is less important.

I'm only 2 months out, but I've started making my own granola made with oats, and seeds. It has a little olive oil and a little maple Syrup in the recipe but I dropped the sugar it called for. The only fruit is a very small amount of dried sour cherries. And I measure out 2 oz only when I eat it.
i do need the Fiber so I take is an important part of my daily nutrition. I will not be buying boxed cereals hopefully ever again for myself. But the quantity is king. If it's full of Protein and nutrition, and a couple oz fit into your desired daily food, then go for it when you can digest it. My carbs are quite low even with those two ounces.
One of the best things about this surgery is that a tiny amount of something good is actually satisfying! It never was before. I thought all the skinny people were lying. One bite of a cookie can't be as satisfying as the whole box! But yes. Now it can. For real. I love that.

For those interested in researching studies available - either in full report or at least the abstract I always use www.pubmed.gov
Many studies are highly complex, but have an understandable synopsis so you may see more key words of interest.
use ANY keywords 1-3 combined like bariatric and thousands of resources, the MDs name, any other key word..

Thanks teacupnosaucer. It has been a long hard battle but one I was not willing to give up on. It took me many years to lose the weight on my own that I did. First lost about 90 pounds in a year with WW then started NS and lost another 90 pounds the second year. Then maintained around 318 for a number of years before I started to put back on some weight. In 2014 I stopped before I crossed back into the 400's but in a year was only able to lose 38 pounds so I went in 2015 to see the WL surgeon. Had to do a 6 month diet and lost another 38 pounds before I had my 3 procedure surgeries in Jan 2016. If I hadn't taken the bull by the horns and lost this weight with sheer determination, hard work and then this wonderful tool (the sleeve) I probably would have been died by now. So thanks for the "your a champ comment". I really will feel like one once I get all the excess skin removed and get to my goal weight.

That is exactly how I got massive. I work from home. I can wear whatever I want. Sitting around all day in lounge clothes and only getting dressed in normal clothes every once in a while allowed me to easily balloon in size and not notice it.
You said you are weighing yourself so it shouldn't be an issue for you, but I am just telling my story.
I weigh myself and keep accountability in my clothes. I also started getting dressed every day for work, even though I am in the house alone. I found that I work better, I am more focused and it creates better work life balance/lines. I get up shower, and get dressed just like I am going to work, and it helps create boundaries. You are still early post-op, but you might want to make some changes for long term success, your changes might not be like my changes, but sometimes you have to change other things that seem unrelated to make WLS work in the long term. Lifestyle changes are the only way to make this easy/effective long term.
I work from home and live alone, I have made a lot of lifestyle adjustments in the past 3 years to create more structure in my home work environment because it was allowing me to eat and gain weight with no stops. I can cook all my meals, which also means I can eat all day and there is no one to judge me or notice I am eating all day or making bad choices. I have no set breaks or lunches. I can basically do whatever I want because not only do I work from home, I work for myself. I don't have anyone to answer to. I was eating any time of the day, any amount. That is why I started intermittent fasting before surgery to create some boundaries on when I could eat and it helped cut my calories.
As some other people said try on clothes in your closet all the time. A lot of my clothes by the time I got around to trying them on, they were too big.

I am two months out from surgery and my instructions are not to add rice and bread until at least 3 months out and not to add beef and pork until at least 6 months out.
Have you tried poached eggs. This is what I had when I first tried eggs and they went down easy.

I didn't force my stomach to eat "real " food enough in the beginning. So now I'm still struggling to eat things like chicken, veggies etc. So I hardly ever cook anything at home unless it's something that the boyfriend really likes. The last thing i fixed at home was ground turkey meatloaf, streamed broccoli and red mashed potatoes. That was a month ago. I would LOVE to eat leftovers, but it's beyond expensive when most of it goes in the trash. Protein Bars, yogurt and cottage cheese are my daily staples
