  1. as much as both sides like to argue, there is no definitve proof that vaccines cause autism, a lot of the time I think that people are looking for someone or something to blame instead of just accepting that their child has a different normal. What should be noted is that preemie infants (the younger they are) are at increased risk for many potential issues.
  2. Hi 30's, just found this thread tonight at work, I was banded 3/25 in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz, very happy with the changes so far, 1st fill was done today 5/1 and am down 25 since pre op and 59 total, what I'm having the hardest time with is the increased male attention, just taking a little bit more to adjust to then I thought it would!! So not complaining though. BBK, I had already planned to be a pin up girl when i get to goal, there's a photog here in seattle (where I currently live) that is his specialty, pretty stoked about doing it. BTW: I'm form Quebec, Canada and have lived here in the US for 9 years, pretty happy to see some 30's activity.
  3. hi nomoretwinkies, flight wise you should have no issues, my flight was no different than any other I've ever been on, wore comfortable clothing and flew from seattle to san diego, as for pj's, you could just wear the hospital gown that they put you in, I brought my own pj's and as soon as I was awake I changed into them, mainly cause that is just the way I am, I feel better in my own clothing with my own pillow (which I brought with me) and had some sandels that have a back on them but I had no pain so the bending etc was no issue for me. Good Luck, I was banded 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana.
  4. As a nurse, I can assure you that we and the docs really could care less about your nakedness, it's part of the job and we have seen it all before, as phowell says, we're too busy talking about our weekends, families etc and doing our jobs to stand around gawking.
  5. it's called an ET tube (endotracheal tube) and even if you start to wake up before they have extubated you, you'll be so out of it that it will all be pretty hazy and you won't really be aware of what's happening.
  6. I had 3 weeks of full liquids post op and then could eat real food after that. The 3 week rule was if I could drink it I could have it but that did not mean milkshakes!! Soups, yogurts, popsicles, I took marinara and pasta, blended it and made it really runny, protein shakes etc... It was fine but boy was I ready for eat real food day!!
  7. wow proudmaryrn, you do sound really bitter, that's too bad that you were involved in a lawsuit but really there are worse things in life so you should let the negative energy go about it, when you tell people not to go into nursing maybe you should start or end your statement with "i was in a lawsuit so I am kind of biased..."
  8. I just pulled out some of my clothes that were in storage so now its as though I have a whole new wardrobe and my 2 brand new pairs of size 12 jeans that are so so comfortable!! Anyway, I tried on everything I owned and if it was too big, then out it goes, so 4 bags of clothes went off to buffalo exchange yesterday and I got some money to put aside for newer smaller clothes. I say get rid of the big stuff, you don't need to hang onto clothes that your never going to wear again!!
  9. Hiya, I'm Tara, a travel nurse from canada currently in Seattle for the last year, I've lived everywhere from South Carolina to Alaska over the 9 years I have been here, my current specialty is N-ICU, I have also worked in Labour and Delivery, PP and as a charge nurse on a Gyn/Uro floor, the next step for me is transport, specifically flight nursing or I am also very interested in outpost nursing when I return to Canada (which is working in the northern Inuit villages) I am also considering going back to school for a certificate NP in forensics, as you can see my interests are varied. nicunicu2000, which hospital are you at? One of my friends is from Boston and worked there for a few year. I'm a self pay that had surgery in Tijuana on 3/25 with Dr. Ortiz, it was a very positive experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat, I go for my 1st fill tomorrow so I am really looking forward to restriction that I had the 1st few weeks post op.
  10. saline is clear, sounds like the gatorade is the culprit for your electric colored squirts. hope you feel better soon!!
  11. Missy, I too am on my own right now, and am quite ok with it, I'm pretty busy taking classes, caring for my dogs, working full time and chillin with my peeps, I kind of fell like right now a boy would just take up too much of my time, enjoy your time on your own, it's better to wait for the right person than just being with someone so you don't have to be on your own. Athinnerdenise: plenty of the guys on the sites are not exactly serious about meeting the people they communicate with, don't take it personally, email with them but start to talk and then meet pretty quickly so you can see if they are really serious about dating in real life and not just online and so you can see if your really interested in them. Good luck to both of you!!
  12. bring on protein powder and buy a carton of milk once through security, also once at your destination, go to a grocery to buy some staples for the conference then you won't have to worry about jelly donuts and the like:-)
  13. I have lost 25 since the pre op and surgery, the remainder of what I have lost I had done before. I did not have any hunger at all for 2 weeks post op and then I finally stated to have some hunger, in the last couple of days I have really gotten hungry and am going to call for my 1st fill in the am. I was banded on 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. congrats on your loss too, 26 is great!!
  14. I went a little slow since I had no mushy phase in my post op, I think my first meal was refried beans with a sprinkle of mexican blend cheese ( mainly because I had seen others on this board use that as their first meal and it sounded so good after 3 weeks of liquids!!) as for the breads, I can eat it now but am not yet filled, but when I do eat it I have to be very aware of chewing it enough since I can really see how it is something that is a high risk of getting "stuck"
  15. no picture but christian louboutin black patent leather heels is my choice....
  16. blund, when she starts up with her negative comments, call her on it, say "why are you being so negative and unsupportive about my band?" If that does not work then tell her until you can keep your negative comments to yourself about my band, we will not be discussing my choice anymore. hope that helps!!
  17. it's your decision to ingest whatever you want, is there anyway you could cut out some of the cals though since 480 is alot, like maybe sugar free syrup (if it's a starbucks drink) or maybe a smaller size since I doubt that the smallest size has that many cals but if it does I'd like to know the rest of the nutritional info cause it can't be too good.if you go for the smaller size then you still get the taste and enjoyment out of it but not quite as much damage.
  18. Hi Missy, I travel fairly frequently and even with all the comparing of different sites, I have consistantly found the best prices for my destinations at expedia, hope she gets a good deal, and best of luck to you!!
  19. it's your doctors decision as to which band he puts in, since you said you mentioned to them what you wanted but the doc leans toward the older band, you knew that going in and if you were not comfortable with the choice of bands you could have gone to another surgeon. clearly the band is working for you as your ticker says you've lost 22.5lbs, so I would not worry about the band the doc chose.
  20. try to have one of your Protein shakes, the carnation instant breakfasts taste good but are no comparison for an actual Protein shake, the carnation one might have 5 or 6 gms I think where as the other has 20-30gms usually, I think you'll find with the additional protein you'll feel far more satiated, also in the weeks post op, for at least the 1st week you will not be hungry at all, I was not hungry for 2 full weeks and would have to force myself to have some Soup or yogurt, I was on a liquid diet for 3 weeks post op, and it actually was far easier than I could have imagined. I was banded 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon, just take it 1 hour at a time.
  21. Heidi, what your feeling is normal, since you feel like you could eat the food right through the tv you should call your doc's and see about getting a fill sooner rather than later, I know some doc's start them right at 4 weeks post op, mine is 6-8weeks out that they start them but I think am one of the lucky ones since I get full pretty quickly even with no fill in place as of yet. I lost 25lbs since my pre op diet and but right now the concern for you is healing not weight loss, I think that people think the weight will start falling off and disappointment ensues when that does not happen, once you start getting fills, it loss will start/ continue. You are in control of your care and if you think that you need the fill then push for it or ask for the do'c reasoning as to why not, you have to be an advocate for yourself since it is no one elses job. As for not gaining weight before going for a fill, I am aware of my cal's and making good nutritional choices, also being aware of real hunger vs head hunger, I have for sure had a few instances where I have eaten due to boredom or whatever and then said "hey, why did I just do that, I was not even hungry" but you just pay more attention the next time and correct the negative behavior that way. Hope this helps, congratulations on your 30lb weight loss already!! BTW, I was banded by Dr. Ortiz on march 25th.
  22. David, I would assume that the Vitamin would have dissolved by now, I think that with the both the pain and the throwing up I would call my doc and discuss with them, could be that the fill is too much right now even though it is only 2 cc's. hope everything is ok, congratulations on the 22 down!!
  23. your only issue with ice cream (once your back on a regular diet) is the calories and fat and the fact that it will "slide" right through the band, I still eat it occ but 1/2 cup serving that I factor into the calories for the day, normal people eat ice cream and I am a normal person just eating a serving instead of the whole pint of B&J's.
  24. cosmos, everyone is really tired of your slamming all of mexico, and i hate to break it to you but there are places in this your precious USA that you can't drink the water too, so lose the holier than thou attitude and maybe find something else to do instead of changing your story every time you post on here, there are books you could read, or maybe go for a walk instead. I'm sure you'll find something criticizing to write back in response to me but whatever, get over yourself.
  25. I had my surgery with dr ortiz on march 25th, I did a modified pre op diet that lasted for 2 weeks, I kept it at around 1100 cals because the 750 from shakes was no way going to work for someone who works 12hr nights at the hospital and some days being up for 20+ hours, I ate 3 meals a day and that was it, I became very aware of the mindless eating I had been doing very quickly, and drank lots of water and crystal light, by the end of the 2 weeks, I was down 15lbs, more than was required for my surgery. My meals would be plain oatmeal or yogurt with 1/4 cup granola, salad with lean protein and raspberries or an apple, and then a lean cuisine for dinner with more fruit, if i needed a sweet hit, I went with a diet pudding cup, and on my work nights I always got my starbucks coffee since it was not something I was willing to give up. Hope the pre op diet goes well and isn't too painful!!
