elliekay got a reaction from LaNueva_Janie in Ingrown hairs??
Sorry if this is gross/TMI/wrong forum.
I've been maintaining for the past year and I've been getting a LOT of ingrown hairs "down there", where before I didn't... my partner thinks it's from loose skin causing friction or something like that. Which I guess makes sense because my stomach skin hangs down around where it happens. Has anyone else dealt with this post weight loss? A few of them have repeatedly gotten infected/started bleeding and idk what to do about it. It's gross and it looks bad and it's painful. Can loose skin cause this? Is there anything I can do to prevent it (other than the standard prevention/treatment...)?

I’m down only about 8lbs from my last surgiversary but that’s ok I never thought I’d hit onederland, much less maintain 165-170lbs at 5’11” for a year!

The past two years haven’t been exactly what I’ve expected—for example, I’m not suddenly in love with what I see in the mirror, still have a long way to go mentally—but this surgery gave me my life back. I was one of the luckier ones who went into this with no comorbidities so my health is about the same as it was but my quality of life is so vastly improved.

Next stop: hopefully getting some of this skin removed

I haven’t been super active during maintenance but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here who’s offered support and advice!

I don't understand the mentality that you have to be completely open about your surgery on the first couple dates/early in a relationship lol... there's plenty of other ways to explain dietary restrictions without putting everything out there. it's a sensitive/vulnerable topic. honestly, i'm a bit over 7 months into my relationship (9 months post-op) and he doesn't know and probably never will. it isn't a necessity for him to know. a few people got mad at me for posting a thread here where i was feeling a bit upset that he got me chocolates for vday after i asked him not to but the thing is that that's an inconsiderate thing to do just knowing i'm on a diet and have digestive issues, he didn't need to know i had WLS to know better, you know? it's your business who you share it with. i'd explain that you're on a diet and maybe elaborate that you have a hard time digesting certain foods if you want a more solid reason but if they're worth the time they'll be able to respect that you're choosing to eat a certain way.
i don't know what the nightlife scene is like by you and what's accessible but i live inside chicago city limits so generally i like going to cheap shows on dates--there's always cheap improv shows or local bands for $5-$10. if we do get food i make sure i have suggestions in mind for places i can actually eat. bars seem to work ok as well once you're a bit further post-op, if you get 1 drink and drink it slowly over the course of the date.

Weighed in 278.4 day of surgery, 178.4 this morning. Sleeved 8/1 so just a bit over 10 months out.
Also, I'm officially out of the "overweight" BMI range. (my info says 25 but BMI calc says I'm justttt under it)

8/1 (surgery) - 1/18 (about halfway between then and now) - 6/11 (today!)
I'm 8.4lbs away from my initial goal but I think I might adjust to 150. Trying to get some kind of body fat testing done per suggestions in a thread I posted earlier this week so I can get a better idea of what's fat and what's skin.

& How far out are you?
I know many WLS plans (including mine) encourage not counting calories and instead focusing on the macros... but I'm wondering if I'm eating too few calories and if its negatively impacting my weight loss 1.5 yrs post op and I'm generally eating 600-900 calories. Today I'm at 638, and I have a hardboiled egg if I get hungry later so I'll probably wrap up at 700 for the day. I was traveling over the weekend and did a pretty good job of sticking to my plan and tracked absolutely everything I ate (I promise! every single bite!) but ate 1186 and 1204 calories on Saturday and Sunday respectively and gained 3.6lbs! Hoping it's bloating or something because that seems really excessive, especially when if I were "normal" for my height/weight I could probably be eating around 1500 calories and still be losing weight. So yeah. Just wondering if my caloric intake is normal, and what you guys are at.

Haha more unkind to my wallet. If he was paying for the entire thing I'd be less apprehensive about it (is that mean?) but we're splitting the cost so I feel silly paying so much for a meal I'll mostly be eating as leftovers, if I even finish them before they go bad. I'm going to try mentioning it to him today, thank you for the advice (and thanks to everyone else who gave advice!)

I agree with my friend Rainbow Warrior who can see it from the guys side too. FH thinks he's being kind, might even be,proud of you, but this could,be too kindness too soon. If he could only do this for,Mother's Day,Bday or something else. Try going the box up route if he's adamant about it.

I will normally Celebrate Valentines Day the day/weekend before, because I hate the fixed menus, extra cost, large crowds and long waits. We will go wherever we want, and then either have leftovers on Valentines Day, or I will cook a good meal for us.
If this isn't an option for you, then I would just order the 5 course feast, eat bites of each course, and then bag up the rest for home. Honestly, everybody is so into doing their own thing, that nobody will notice. Even if they do, who cares? Do your thing.

Just roll with it. Not the best choice on his part, as far as what you can eat. Be up front with the staff at check in/server. And you can always box it up, you are paying for it. Prior to surgery, hunny and I would fine-dine several times a year and never any issues boxing up all your courses. Take one bite and have them pack it up

Just go do it and bring home lots of leftovers! And don't let him make you sit on the floor at his feet. You'll have a blast!

Absolutely. But my point is that being at a very low calorie level for 6 months or a year or 18 months doesn’t necessarily cause your metabolism to slow down permanently. Even during the periods of time (2-4 months a few times) I had to stop for an injury or plastic surgery I still ate in the 1800-2400 range and didn’t gain.

@elliekay I also think the question has to be asked about the quality of your 1100-1200 calories. What did it consist of? Was there alcohol involved?
I generally think that you're traveling so you may have Fluid retention in your limbs. You may also be full of poop!
But...if it were me, and it has been this past year...I would go back to your 600-900 cals until your weight comes back down. Then start slowly and emphasis on SLOWLY raise your cals with lean Proteins, healthy fats (avocado, butter -- yes, butter, etc), and low glycemic veggies and a tiny bit of fruit. I raised cals at first 50 cals per week, then later 100cals/1-2 weeks, then lastly 200 cals/2weeks. I went from eating liquid diet at 300-400 cals/day to eating at 1500 cals that way. The weight loss did level off and I'm basically in maintenance at 1500 cals which is where the surgeon wants me right now.
If I had done it quickly though, I would have gained badly. Also, just 1 drink of alcohol makes me instantly put on 2lbs overnight. So it's just not worth it...
Hope you get it figured out!!

Here's my before & after as of this morning--sorry for the undies:

At 300lbs, I thought 170/5'11" was ambitious but now that I'm here I think I could stand to lose another 20-30lbs. I THINK a lot of it is loose skin (my thighs are now made of pugs), but honestly I can't really tell, maybe I'm just making excuses for still being tubby lol. When is too early to start looking into plastics?? (not that I could afford it but a girl can dream....)
Having a personal moment of silence for my booty disappearing. You will be missed. Thank you for being a sacrifice to the weight loss deities.
