CVanPelt got a reaction from still me in Epiphany: body dismorphic disorder
I'm still pre-op but I've lost nearly 50#. I didn't really see a difference until 40# lost. Losing a little bit all over your body disguises how much you lost total. I also realized I was definitely stuffed into smaller pants than I should have been wearing. I'm finally down a size and in need of a smaller belt though

CVanPelt reacted to gidgetgrl in Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?
@TheNewKel I will tell you my experience is that some of us post surgery still have hunger. I was on the liquid diet for almost 2 weeks pre surgery and 2 weeks post surgery. In any case it's a long time with no solid food. One of the pluses of sleeve is it's supposed to take away the hormone that is produced in that part of your stomach called grehlin. But in some cases like mine, it did not. The good thing is even when you get to solid food, you can't eat that much and get full fast. I'm 5weeks out on solid food now, but still get hungry. I'm just trying to make good food choices and downloaded a tracking app. I asked my bariatric Dr and he said not everyone loses their hunger. So my best bet is having my new love affair be with the scale and my mirror, and not food!!

    Hi everyone,
My surgery is scheduled for November 7. It took a while to get everything done before I could get surgery scheduled, but now that I have a date I'm starting to get nervous. Anybody else?

Emotional eating is emotional eating regardless of the underlying factors. You can do well to see a cognitive behavior therapist. You may also want to get a book, THE BECK DIET SOLUTION, Judith Beck, PhD. She's a CBT practitioner and teacher. You want her first book, not the later one with a similar title and which includes a food plan not directed at WLS people. If you do get the book, start at page one and do the exercises as you get to them. There's also a website, shrinkyourself.com, the child of another psychologist, Roger Gould. He, too, has a book (what a surprise), but I know nothing about it.

@@CVanPelt I went to a psychologist to discuss emotional eating (not related to anything in particular) and found it extremely helpful so far (we'll see if it's helpful post-op). I encourage you to go to one as well.

I was thin until 14 years old and then got sexually assaulted by a few "friends", within 4 years I put on about 125 lbs. First I dealt with is with anorexia, then I dealt with it with compulsive overeating. Basically the same thing, just switching seats on the Titanic, right? I went to see a talk therapist who helped me tremendously. She also introduced me to Overeater's Anonymous which helped me just as much, emotionally speaking. Something about that bonding and seeing others go through something similar regarding my eating disorder. I still go to OA meetings online off and on when I feel overwhelmed if I need to get my bearings.

CVanPelt got a reaction from ProudGrammy in What are the first foods to try in week 4
If everything goes as planned I'm having surgery October 3rd and have a mandatory work conference November 1-3. The conference is in the 5th week post-op so hopefully I'll know what I can and can't handle. I will tell the conference team/hotel staff about needing softer foods, but what were some friendly and some not-so-friendly foods you tried during weeks 4-5? Might help me tell the hotel what I can and cannot have while I'm there. More than likely I will take my own food too, just in case.

So my insurance info was sent in on Wednesday and I just got a letter saying they approved me for October 3rd ???? yay for getting approved! But now I have questions.... I had no idea they had me planned for October 3rd! I can probably make it work but I know the Dr office wants me in for 4 weekly pre-op visits before surgery and there aren't even 4 weeks until October 3rd! Hmmmm.... At least I can make the date work in my calendar, which was a pleasant shock.
I should get some food for my post-surgery needs. I read you can't do heavy lifting for several days after so I know I need to stock up on dog food... But what else did you guys do to prepare for after surgery?

Couple of days no heavy lifting? Try nothing heavier than a gallon of milk for 30 days! Better buy a couple bags of dog food now! You need clear liquids- broth, Jello etc and Protein shake mix to begin with. Don't go crazy. You will want to get out of the house by the time your Clear liquids are over, and can start buying "mushy" foods then. Besides, walking around in the grocery store is good exercise post op!

Because of my pre-op weight loss, my surgeon said I didn't have to do a liquid diet at all. (I just have to do Clear Liquids the day before the surgery.)
However, I have decided to do the liquid diet anyway (six days of liquid diet and one day of clear liquids). I think it will be easier to go ahead and get used to that before the surgery rather than after the surgery.

a lot of people expressed to me dismay over cutting out a "perfectly healthy organ" but to me my system was not perfectly healthy. I was hungry all the time. it would take me 3 or 4 times the amount of food I should have been eating just to feel satisfied. I don't know - in time, science may reveal causes of obesity - but in the mean time I have to live and be as healthy as I can. the surgery gave me that
now my diabetes is GONE. and a normal child size portion satisfies me. completely satisfied. with a normal amount of food. I have never lost the weight before, and it feels wonderful all the changes in my body.
I can't say if it is right for you, but most of us only feel like we should have done it sooner. Keep searching your heart and see whether you are ready for this or not.

I'm on 2 shakes a day for before and after. For my 1st week, I have to take away something each day. Today is sweets. I work overnight, so I've been sleep, but I'm about to try the broth and egg noodles for the 1st time. By week 2, I have to be on a full liquid diet. I've lost 20 lbs during my 6mon program, can't wait to see how much I lose, this 2wks I'm also excited about the Purge, lol. Clearing my closet later on today. No more holding on to clothes just in case I gain the weight back. My nutritionist was worried about me cause I lack a good support system. I tried Google and wasn't finding anything. So I said they have an app for everything. .....so here I am. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

maybe you'll decide to split the difference between sick and vacation days
1/2 time off with sick days, remaining time from vacation
    good luck with pending WLS
