All of us are in similar situations. Growing up as a child my mother would say Children are starving in Europe so eat your food. Sixty five years later and after a failed lap band, I am finally losing the weight that needs to come off being 6 weeks after sleeve surgery. But you still think "eat everything". I am down 30 lbs since December and am still thinking "fat". Last night I went out to dinner with my son who was visiting. We went to Bone Fish Grill. I ordered just the Soup while he ordered a regular meal. Before they brought our dinners, they brought out the loaf of bread that I love. I started nibbling at the edges of the loaf but the sleeve makes you "calculate" what you can eat. I barely finished the bowl of soup. You continue to think "eat everything" but the sleeve is like a gun to your head stopping you. That s why WW or any support group is important. My wife has terrible fibromyalgia and Migraines with obesity. I am praying that the surgery in 3 months helps her. Good luck on your journey. We are all on a new journey

The body needs carbs to regain weight (insulin is a building hormone). White sugar actually gets adrenaline going, which is counter productive since adrenaline is a weight loss hormone. (Ever see a skinny sugar junkie? I have!)
So, concentrate on complex carbs, healthy fats, Proteins, and Vitamins so the body has everything it needs to start building again. Exercise should be moderate cardio (30 minutes, 3 times a week) OR walking 3-5 miles per day. AND weight lifting 2-3 times a week.
I have no way of knowing how many carbs y'all should aim for, as it just depends on your own metabolisms. A good general starting point is 150g/day. If that seems high.. well it has to be to get you gaining. If it seems low, then add 50g a day to what you are currently consuming.
Increase the carbs by 50g/day each week until you stop losing weight.

Let my start by saying before surgery, I had absolutely no self control when it came to food. I lived for what my next meal would be. If I ate pizza, I ate half a large and a box of breadsticks and still had room for dessert and a soda. My diet consisted of probably 70% carbs. So I knew having surgery would be a mental challenge more than anything, but I also didn't intend to never eat a slice of pizza again. I wanted to learn to control my cravings and eat portion sizes that are acceptable. That all being said, I'm 3.5 weeks post op and I already feel I am failing myself. The carb cravings have NOT gone away, and I find that I am able to eat anything. I have eaten Pizza Crust, biscuit, chips, bread. All of it goes down just fine and what's worse, makes me feel satisfied in a way that a stick of cheese or tuna does not. I realize that if I continue this path I won't see the results I want, and having paid for this surgery out of pocket, I do not want it to be wasted. I need help please

Looking for opinions, I have been following my post op diet with no cheating and I though I was doing well.... True I lost 14lbs at week two and have been stalled for 2 weeks but I assumed it was the dreaded 3 week stall. Now at my one month appointment I am told that the week 3 stall isn't real and that this is my fault for sure (not my words). What is everyone's opinion on the legitimacy of the week 3 stall?

The more photos I see of her, the more I think she should have lost more weight. Her feet are so fat they look inflated. They never show her legs but you can see they are still trunks in the pictures of her in jeans. Her face and neck are still fat. She still looks like she needs to drop 50 pounds.
I feel like they just faked/rush her whole process for TV.

I didn't know that she actually has a show about her WLS. I may have to watch it. I have seen some photos online and it looks like she's done well. I worry about Honey Boo Boo. She looks like she's picked up her mom's unhealthy habits. Reminds me of myself at that age.

Yes everyone is different but how is someone healthy by eating crap? What their body composition will look like. The chemicals consumed? I see a total trend and in healthy fit people... they don't eat that crap! But semi-ok looking people usually do eat that. Myself for example.. my body composition and health is completely different with what i put in my body. Personally I get sick if I over indulge. But again.... why would you put those food back in your system????? Why? What so important that a person knows the risks and triggers of them... that they need to have them???? I mean, yes people use their tool different and have different goals. But it makes no sense to me to re introduce those harmful things back into my body. Just my opinion.

@sgc hmmm, interesting. What is with the change in attitude today? You had such a positive spirit prior. I am wondering if maybe you are not ready to start actively dating just yet. Maybe you need to reach your weight goal first. Maybe dating should be placed on the back burner for now. You may need to get to know you, the new you...the healthy you before you decide to date.
For me, it will be remembering who I was before I gained all my weight and because self-conscious.
Focus on you right now. I know this is cliche, but when you are ready you will know you are ready to date.

I spent most of my adult life being overweight and isolating myself from people that I don't have really any friends let alone common ones. I guess the signs are there. She did draw me a picture when I was in the office and weighed 470 pounds. She did ask me to go to a play and a dinner. That doesn't seem like something a woman would ask a guy to do even though I believe some other female co-workers were going to join us. When I did go to the bar back in December, she did say a couple times she was glad I came. She also asked me if I was single. I am pretty sure she is single. I know she was about a year ago. Ironically I was matched up with her on an online dating site. It's hard to stop thinking as the 470 pound guy. She isn't quite petite. She would probably be considered overweight but I think she is the perfect size. She did comment on my weight loss and she said she wanted to lose some weight. Maybe she has the same insecurities as I do?

I still suck at this game. Still haven't gone to any dinner or play with this woman from work. A week before Christmas another coworker who I didn't know very well was leaving the company. There was a gathering at a bar after work for her going away. I wasn't going to attend because I really didn't know her. The other woman who I think is interested in me asked if I was going. I said probably not because I didn't know her. She then said she was going so of course I changed my mind and went. While there we talked a little. She asked if I was dating anyone. I said I wasn't and she said she could set me up with one of her friends. That kind of disappointed me but maybe she was wanting me to ask her out. I was too nervous to do it in front of coworkers so I didn't. Anyways after before we went home she asked me to message her on Facebook when I got home. I did and she responded and said she was so glad I decided to go. They had another thing planned and she would let me know. She hasn't spoken with me since. I really think I blew my chance and should have asked her out that night. I guess I'm still fighting self image issues. This woman has so many friends and is well liked by everyone and so pretty I just can't understand why someone like that would want to be with a guy that at one time weighed almost 500 pounds. I have been agonizing about it for over a month now. Not sure what to do. I'm getting closer to a goal weight and may start up an online profile and try to move on. Most of my adulthood I have been a loner due to my weight and it's just so hard to try to start fresh in my 30's.

5 day pouch test is useless for sleevers and anyone more than 6 months from surgery really. It does not help you use the best part of your tool.
Eat dense Protein. I'm not sure what your living/work situation is like but clear everything out you can binge on and only stock your house with dense Protein. Steak, grilled chicken, pork chops. Things that really utilize your restriction. Even if you decide to binge or graze on these you can't do that much damage. Only eat dense protein for at least a week, 2 if you can make it that long. Eat salad greens with Walden Farms dressing if you need a snack.
Like someone else said, over eaters anonymous is free.

The main thing is to let your sleeve help you. It can only help you if you are eating dense protein.

    I was sleeved on 8/31/16.
I stayed in the hospital for two nights, but it was because of vomiting. After the vomiting stopped, I was fine. I didnt use pain meds after the first few hours.
I was cleared for the gym at the 6 weeks. I took 5 weeks off work, but I would have been fine at the 2 week mark.
I really did not have any pain. The only real issue, was fatigue in the early weeks. After the fatigue passed, I had more energy than ever!

Omieliz reacted to OutsideMatchInside in When did your loss start to taper off?
Well you always have restriction, 85% of your stomach is gone forever.
Look online for a WLS expected weight loss calculator. There is one on another site I can't link here.
When I got the average expected weight loss for my start weight, age, and height, which was around 220, my weight loss slowed down. This was also at around 14/15 months post op.
I have lost another 32 pounds in the past 5 months. So it slowed down but the majority of my weight was gone already. It was cold and I wasn't walking as much and YOLO, I haven't been as strict about my food (too many Protein bars).
I think everyone slows down once they get under 200 pounds, or at least it seems like that from posts I see here.

Mine did cover. When that time comes talk to your Primary Care, Dermatoligist and Plastic Surgeon. All can write letters to insurance about and medical need you have. If extra skin causes rash, chaffing, infections etc you MIGHT get them to cover. Best wishes to you!!!!!

I have taken phentermine before so I am certainly not going to judge one on taking it - no worries there. , too, lost a lot of weight on it then gained it right back. I also have wondered about taking it post-op since I have a bunch left.
I see you have lost a lot of weight with your sleeve. Are you wanting to take the phentermine for more weight loss or just to clamp down on hunger? The only thing I would worry about is becoming mal-nourished with adding the phentermine. (That and the usual side effects like blood pressure.)
I am surprised your hunger remained the same. I thought the sleeve is supposed to remove the gherlin production so no way could it remain the same. Don't get upset with my next question - just throwing it out there for consideration in case you haven't thought about it. Have you considered it might be emotional hunger? That you are not really physically hungry but emotionally?

I am seven months out and I did not lose any hair... I think I am in the clear??
If I am then I totally think it is a crap shoot to if you lose it or not. I did not hit my Protein goals for a few months after surgery- i was pretty sick for about 6 weeks and didn't eat hardly anything- and my dr is very laid back about Protein goals in the beginning. anyway/ I did take Biotin a month before surgery and every day since but besides that I have not been a model patient.
All that to just say- I think it's all a crap shoot on Hair loss.

I'm due to have sleeve surgery in May. My hubby has a friend whose mom had gastric sleeve and couldn't take her meds after surgery and had 4 strokes. He said it was due to her small stomach.,.got too full. I have 20 capsules I take daily plus 10 other pills, daily. My surgeon knows of all my meds. Has anyone heard of not being able to take their meds or has anyone experienced this? I plan on asking my surgeon, but my next appt isn't til next month.
