First and foremost, I strongly believe in the idea that we are what we think we are, so the negative self talk has GOT to go. You are a successful WLS patient who has fallen off the wagon a bit.
A failure is someone who quits, refusing to try again. You regained only 20 pounds and you are back. You could have waited until you had regained 40, 60, 100, or 100+ or you could have thrown in the towel all together.
    YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE.
Go back to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends. Go back to your pre-op diet for a week or two. Go back to liquids for a week or two. Start weighing/measuring/tracking your food and move your ass a little more than normal. You can totally do this.
You are not a failure until you stop trying. You don't sound like a failure to me at all.

I would do it again. Only 6 weeks out - hunger gone, down 40 pounds and more energy than I've had in years.

I will honestly miss, the small sum of money I spent yearly on clothes since I HATED clothes shopping. It was so depressing to see myself in all those mirrors in clothes that were as big as tents.
Now that the lard is shedding, my pocket book is shrinking with all the clothes and shoe shopping replacements. On the other hand, I've learned I rather like clothes and shoe shopping - plus, I really take in the steps going from store to store!

I'm exactly 2 months out today. I've had the same exact problem with Constipation this whole time. Milk of Mag did finally work, but I had to take it twice a day, 3 days in a row.
Now, I take two stool softeners every morning and I drink Miralax every morning, to try to keep myself more regular. I also purchased a squatty potty from BBB, and that has also helped. I wish I could say that I don't have any more probs with constipation, but I still do. Note: everything I'm currently using, is at the suggestion of my surgeon and the PA.

Omieliz reacted to maquillage81 in From a bad dream to a happy reality
I'm 9 weeks out from my sleeve, and was in the habit of weighing myself every day, until my surgeon told me to stop driving myself crazy and just weigh myself once a week. So I decided to weigh myself every Friday to hopefully have a positive start to the weekend. I weighed in at 263.5 last Friday, but last night I had a dream that I stepped on the scale today and it said 355! In my dream I remember feeling like all the progress I made went down the tubes and that I would never be successful in my weight loss. Even though I knew it was just a dream, I woke up this morning feeling very anxious about weighing myself.
Well, I did get in the scale this morning, and the number read 257.5! That's 41.5 lbs down from my surgery weight of 299 and 56.5 lbs down from my highest of 314 lbs. Not to mention I haven't been in the 250's in about 8 years. I feel completely optimistic and motivated for the progress I'll be making going forward, and so grateful for this tool. As for my nightmare last night, I suppose it's Halloween, and we all deserve a good scare

Well, what a devastating, delectable, delightful mental image I have of my WLS pals over there in the US. I'm surprised that you haven't got your knitting needles out and getting woolly hats and scarves churned out to keep you going throughout the cold months! Toughen up you lot-try living here in the U.K.!! Global warming has yet to manifest itself here and those of us who originally hail from north of the border in Scotland have genes pre-programmed to deal with the cold and the damp! OK, I do admit that I was the one last year who was knitting woolly hats, piling a few extra layers on and surrounding myself with husband, three dogs and two cats in bed. No idea what it's going to be like this year as we have had the mildest Autumn possible. Will keep you posted.
As for slutty dressing girls (well boys too if that's your penchant).........YAY!!!! It's fun, fun and more fun. I bought over the knee boots about six months after my VSG and they were too tight around the calf. Yesterday, a year after surgery, they slipped up my legs beautifully. I also buy a great US brand of jeans NYJ (Not Your Daughter's Jeans) whenever I see them in a sale as they are expensive over here. They are great moral boosters and they are cut to make your bum look great. I might have hit the age of 60 in September but that isn't going to stop my fun. Nor for that matter will the cold when it hits us!
The following pic was taken 8 months after surgery as I was just getting back into the swing of slutty styling.

To the original poster, I was told that overall expectations are 60-70% excess weight loss (i.e. That over BMI more than 25) at 2yrs but obviously some will lose more, some less. It's pretty much up to you - it's not easy but it's easier for me than doing it without it and I am delighted with the results. (5.5 months out and feeling fabulous). Go into it with a positive attitude that you are going to learn to deal with your issues and just keep trying. Good luck.
To co-lyndee - the first few days are a roller coaster, the first few months are a total learning experience. Things will change over time - you will learn to deal with some things, you will find other things no longer a problem. It's the best thing I ever did (and lots of other people here). So take comfort in that - follow your instructions and look forward to a new life (albeit with different challenges). Good luck.

Omieliz reacted to MIMISAN in Surgeon says I should only focus on losing 50-70% of excess weight -Boo!
I had the surgery on March 1st and to this date I have only lost 54 pounds. Prior to surgery on my pre-surgery diet I kicked butt and lost 39 lb's but that was totally me, no surgery involved. Still that means my total loss so far is 93 pounds and I do look drastically different already.
after surgery I was never sick, never queazy, no food made me feel bad and I have always been able to eat anything I tried to eat without ill effects. I also don't and never had a restriction on swallowing liquids. The only difference between you and me is that if I overeat in one sitting I do feel a restriction on the amount I can eat.
At times I have felt a little cheated and wondered if the Dr. did enough or took enough of my stomach etc, because I was hoping for more help in the first few months because that's when they say you will lose the most.
Now I realize that its going to be up to me. If I keep eating to many carbs (and I do) I am not going to continue to lose weight. It's a mental game and I had expectations that aren't realistic. I will have to do my own low carbing and just use the sleeve as a tool to assist. Once I realized this I felt better about it.
I do look better, I do FEEL better and I do have to take responsibility for what goes in my mouth! LOL ( Damn it)

Also, remember that they're quoting an average. Averages are nice, but they don't tell the whole story. Some people will lose 100% of their EBW, some 10%. I believe you get out of it what you put into it. An average shouldn't be seen as a guarantee or a limitation. Ask what makes the difference between the 60%'rs and the 90%'rs. Emulating them is how we exceed "average".

I was sleeved on 08/31/16, and have had a relatively smooth recovery. A few bouts of Constipation and fear that there wasn't enough of my stomach removed since I have not felt any restriction, but nonetheless, an uneventful time. I had my follow up appointment with my surgeon on Friday and he said a couple of things (which I now have in writing), that really bothered me.
First, when I told him that I did not feel any restriction, he told me that "the staple line affects about 2/3 of the stomach and the remaining "untouched" part of the stomach, is about the size of a fist. 5-6 cm wide. In every single patient. Every time." Really? I never learned this in my Options class, in my Bariatric Support meetings, or just in general doing the research I did before having the surgery. I originally wanted the RNY, but because I have a huge hernia, my surgeon said the risks outweighed the benefits and he would only do the sleeve. I really have no complaints about the sleeve - I've already lost 36 pounds which is pretty significant, but I'm scared that I don't feel a restriction. I'm weighing and measuring all my food to ensure I don't over eat, but it's still a concern I have. I didn't get severely morbidly obese overnight, and I didn't take this surgery lightly. I'm so scared that when my hunger finally comes back, the lack of restriction is going to make it easy to overeat. I never want to overeat again.
Second, I asked him what his goal weight is for me since it's something that was never discussed. He told me that he will be satisfied if I lose 50-70% of my excess body weight. He said that anything more than that is a "bonus." I told him that I wanted to lose 100% of my excess body weight and get to a normal BMI (50-70% doesn't even get me close to it). His excact words are, "Losing 100% of your excess body weight is unrealistic and not a healthy goal, mentally."
I feel rather discouraged right now. I am very greatul that I had the surgery and for the ease of my healing, but I'm concerned now that I went into this with unrealistic expectations. I feel no restriction, apparently 1/3 of my stomach remains untouched, and apparently, a goal of losing 100% of my excess weight is unrealistic...Booo!!!!!!

CYA is a term many know in the medical field. It's why the % was put out there. In my personal opinion I took the information as a suggestion not a carved in stone number. Every one was told we each need to do all we can to improve those numbers. I'm a week away from 6 months and almost at 50lb loss. I haven't started a regular exercise routine due to bad knee's. But I'm going to start now that I'm lighter.
I've got 30 lbs to goal! Pray for me!
We are given the tool, what we do after is up to us.
