I don't mean this to sound rude, but I'm genuinely surprised that you can be discouraged and frustrated when you've lost over 20 lbs in your first 5 weeks, unless I misread something. You may want to have more realistic expectations, so your emotions don't become negative over what is actually a very positive situation. I bet, like myself, you would not have lost that weight without the surgery. Stalls happen all the time. As long as you are trending downward overall for weight, you're doing just fine!

Also, you should really understand that you would not be done losing weight at 5 weeks, and not question if the stall will break. I doubt there's anyone that only lost for a month on this surgery. You've made a lifetime decision and should expect to reap lifelong benefits if you do your part. It's not a race

I agree with the OP regarding the intent of this post. I have always said, I will take loose skin over my unhealthy morbidly obese body every single time. Those that whine about it, clearly don't get it and may be looking for excuses to keep their round plump selves. It might take them some time, but if the weight continues to creep on, their health will be the driver in the end. I know it was for me and my only regret is waiting too long to have the surgery before it damaged my body further.
That being said, removing the extra skin is not just about vanity. And she is right, plastics is a very serious high risk procedure that is absolutely barbaric and leaves you with very large scars. The scars are the trade off for the loose skin.
I will take the scars over the pain from dragging around all this low hanging skin anyday.
It hurts and pulls on my body. Having had 4lbs of skin removed from my arms has helped me with the pain in my neck. Yes, i did have my arms done because they were so big and embarrassing.
In January, I will have my tummy and breasts done not only to look and feel better but to tighten my core and support my back. I have a very bad back and this skin that drops lower as you lose weight pulls on your body.
At the end of the day, I agree......the extra skin is better than all that unhealthy fat, the scars are better than all that loose hanging skin.
I would do it all again in a heart beat. I am 47 days away from having my TT and breast lift with augmentation done. I am NOT looking forward to it. Plastics is way more painful than WLS but I am dreaming about have a nice tight core again and cannot wait to see if it helps my back.
Just sharing some before plastics and after so people get a sense for how loose hanging skin can effect you.

As a person that has lost over 170 lbs and has to deal with skin every day. You are really ignorant as to what living with excess skin is like.
My need to remove skin is not just vanity. The skin I have is painful. If I don't clean my belly button very carefully multiple times a day it gets infected.
Skin is something worth worry about. I spend a lot of money on Shapewear to hold it in so it doesn't hurt when I move. I have to be careful and spend a lot of $$$$ buying bras so they work with my skin issues. I have to deal with balancing wearing shapewear all the time and not ending up with constant yeast infections.
Vanity come dead last in my concerns about my skin. I wish I had thought about the skin issues and considered them long before I let myself sit at over 300 pounds for half my life but now I am paying the price.
It isn't a frivolous concern, the health benefits far out weigh the skin issues but there still are skin issues and they are serious issues.
Next time post your rants, in rants.

I agree with a lot of your sentiment, but let me make one thing perfectly clear.
Most people who have skin surgery after WLS are NOT doing it out of vanity, but out of necessity due to infections and the skin just being a hindrance in functioning normally. So to say it's 'vain' to have surgery to remove skin after WLS is insulting and frankly quite ignorant.
And even if it's done out of vanity, so what? People feel amazing after large losses, and they want to feel even more amazing and have things tightened up and removed. That's their prerogative. And did you know that statistically people are more likely to keep the weight off after having plastic surgery?

He'll come around when he sees how happy, healthy and sexier (although I'm sure you're plenty sexy already) you'll be after the surgery.
And if he's doesn't? You go on living with your sexy, sassy self without him.

I'm sorry you're going through this at a time you need so much love and support. The bright side is the fact that this surgery will give you both years to your life and the energy to deal with things. It's a common theme: women give their entire lives to husbands and kids and when they finally decide to do something for themselves, the family can't handle the change. Stay strong.

I'd personally tell my husband to kiss my butt and then I'd help him pack. His insecurities shouldn't block your path to good health.
He might prefer heavier women, but I prefer smart confident men.

t's easy to compare yourself to the ones the lose the fastest but there are so many factors. Would you have lost 22 lbs without the sleeve in less than 6 weeks? No...So be happy and let the stalls happen knowing it's temporary and that you're trending down. I'm in a 2 week stall right now and I'm not letting it get to me. It's not a race. It's a lifelong change

Have you spoken to your surgeon about your food choice? Are you working with a counselor to figure out why you made such a dangerous choice while your body is healing?
food issues are hard to handle on our own because unlike an alcoholic or drug addict, we still have to eat.
I'm sure many successful people have made bad choices but I'd also bet they didn't make them often.

    Call your doc for use!
Best of luck to you. You can do this.

Pooping isn't an indication that you are in the clear. Drinking prune juice probably isn't on your plan right now either -- a lot of sugar, empty calories and no Protein.

You REALLY need to call your surgeon and tell him what you've eaten. He's much more capable of telling you the warning signs of leaks or ruptures than a board full of unqualified strangers on the internet.

After you speak to him, it's imperative that you figure out why you've put your health at such risk over a few bites of food. I would suggest you reach out to a professional counselor to help you through this process. At the very least, find a OA meeting in your area. It's my OPINION that you are really going to need local support if you are putting yourself at such risk so early out.

    Best of luck to you.

Shell Renewed got a reaction from GBLady41 in Are revisions REALLY necessary?
@@LipstickLady I sort of fall into this category, though I'd say I had a mild addiction to food (a night snacker). Though I was overweight for many years, it crept up super slowly and mostly during times of extreme stress and long hours at work when I'd forget to eat most of the day, then get home order takeout because I was too exhausted to cook, then go to bed with a full stomach.
My metabolism has been very sluggish for a few years, then I had an accident and had reduced mobility for almost two years, using a cane. That's all it took for me to really pack on the pounds.
The surgery is helping so much because I lose almost no weight at all on a 1200-1500 calorie diet. These first few weeks of my sleeve I'm under 1000 calories (closer to 700) at all times, and it's coming off, more slowly than many here due to my slow metabolism, but I'm happy nonetheless Now that I'm losing, my mobility is better, so I am getting momentum on fitness and help my metabolism. The sleeve will help me maintain even if my metabolism remains sluggish. My little story

A quick story. I used to ride motorcycles. A lot. Back when I was doing that I had several shirts that I used to ride in and they all were black with flames coming up from the bottom. I ordered a shirt and it came with this shirt and they never fit. I swear that the black one is actually an XL labeled as a 2XL. I hung them up in the closet and swore that I would wear them someday. That was 2003. That day is finally here! Although this definitely isn't my style anymore, I'm wearing this dang thing. The black one is my next goal.

Shell Renewed reacted to The New Kel in The sleeve is like a backpack..
I was trying to describe what having the sleeve is like, when it comes to eating to my mom. She is curious as to what its like, eating choices, etc.
I thought the best way to describe it to someone who hasn't experienced it is like this:
Say you are headed off on a month long voyage. You only have a small backpack, no suitcases. What would you pack? You'd pack the smallest, most efficient items you could that would be the most helpful along your journey. You would naturally skip the extra stuff that your large suitcases would have allowed. Your choices as to what you pack into you little backpack would be based on usefulness.
This is what my sleeve feels like. When I am choosing food, I'm leaving behind the filler. Just no room in my little backpack.

@@Travelher I'm not certain about revisions as that is a special case.
For the initial vsg, there are many great experienced doctor's but not only is Dr. Gagner experienced, he literally is the one who pioneered the current surgery we all get (keyhole/larcascopic vsg) and there are many medical periodicals and references that attest to it. If it's experience (in addition to competence) that someone wants, it doesn't get any better. Among many online references this is one:
If you look up medical procedures you can see he's done a lot of pioneering in the field, though his website's own bio sums it up most succinctly

ONE GRAM of protein- 4 calories
So, if a person had a low-ish Protein target, of say, 60g a day, THAT is 240 calories. That's not considering fats, carbs, or anything else...
And FATS are 9 calories a gram. Most of us don't watch fat content with laser intensity--- we watch sugars.
So the likelihood they're getting plenty from fats, and the Fiber in foods...
Minimally, I would say, people are hitting the 700-800 cal a day. But 300???? No no no.

I'm sorry... But as a lap band patient, I keep seeing you post about bypass and sleeves and I tend to disagree with pretty much everything you're saying.
In NO world does ANY NUT or Doctor recommend 300-600 calories a day for the first three months. NEVER EVER EVER.
IF you want to pass information along, please say "in my opinion", or "I THINK", or "I may have heard..."
But to the pre-op and newly post op sleeves and bypass patients--
This is false information. One Protein shake by J Robb is 110 cal mixed with one cup of skim milk is 91 cal for a total of 201 cal. Are you telling me that at 2-3 months all a person is consuming is 1 1/2 to 2 shakes??? Nothing else???
Please please be careful. People will read your posts and get misinformation.
