Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess the good news is, I've had such a shitty week that I'm no longer nervous and just ready to get this show on the road.

Hi, I wanted to tell you my experience so you will feel better. I had surgery on the 6th of june. it went wonderful, i had some nausea but that's it, not even a sore throat. Of course there was pain in my tummy but it was handled well with pain meds. I have no trouble drinking Water or eating or anything else and was surprised to hear that so many people did but i think we are reading about it so much because just like everything else people only talk about the bad stuff.!! so relax, take it easy and you will be fine.

I think that when I first lost so much weight quickly, my husband experienced a little insecurity. I guess he thought I was maybe getting attention from men that I hadn't in the past and maybe I would want something different? After he realized that I essentially am the same person, just a healthier version of myself, things leveled out. If he's worried before you've even had the surgery, though, it would make me wonder if he's going to be supportive of you in your efforts? You definitely don't need someone sabotaging your efforts! Good luck!

I didn't have this issue but from being on here a long time. This is not an uncommon concern. In fact even the other way around happens too. Where a gal is afraid her bf will no longer want her once she has lost weight if he was attracted to her when she was overweight. Frankly in any situation, if physical appearance drives someone away, then the relationship wasn't strong to begin with. However your BF's fears are normal and it's up to you reassure him that leaving him is not in your plans. You also should assess if his fears are real about you leaving or a passive aggressive way to prevent you from having surgery. Good luck to you

Tell him that if he is this insecure already, it's better that he be off again now than waste your time trying to be on again until then. This is about your health, your confidence, and your comfort with your body- not his freaking self-esteem. If a man loves you, he supports you in your decisions to improve your health. If he cares more about your a*s than your heart (I meant that in terms of cardiac health, but lovey dovey heart context also works), either use him for his most worthwhile anatomical feature and get rid of him when he no longer fits your needs (like he is hinting he might do to you) or replace him with someone who is legitimately worth your time and say goodbye to Mr. On-again-off-again-insecure-little-boy-baby.
Do what makes YOU happy and if he doesn't like it, then too damn bad.

My teeny, tiny little doodle was all uncovered and stuff...
Open to not only the howling winds (perhaps a slight overstatement), but also to the mockery of others (not an overstatement - it really is mockable)...
As a fat man with a meagre member, this was the most confronting thing I'd ever had to deal with...
Of course, that all paled into insignificance when I was approx 2 hours post waking up...
    What happened then?
    Well, I'll tell you...
I was laying on the gurney, wondering where/who/what/why the f*ck I was, when the lovely nurse says "Oh Mr Familiar... You're awake."
I replied with a barely conscious "Flmsrgthdbn.."
"Mr Familiar.. I'm just going to get a couple of wardsmen to give me a hand. I've a couple of things to do before we get you into the recovery chair."
    "Smfgrudcjk.."
When I opened my eyes again, two of the biggest units I've ever seen were standing over me. I immediately assumed I'd been thrown out of a nightclub and beaten, but apparently they were simply there to roll me onto my side.
I'd come to my senses (relatively) by then, so I said, "On my side? Like this?" - and I rolled onto my side.
Gigantor and Behemoth seemed impressed with my strength and agility, despite my state, so they left me to my own devices.
At this point, the nurse was somewhere behind me, preparing all sorts of things which I knew nothing about...
    Then came the instructions...
"Mr Familiar, I want you to breathe in as deep as you can, then hold it for five seconds."
    Pffft... Easy!!
"Mr Familiar, now I want you to stretch your legs out as far as you can."
This was a little trickier, as I was laying on my side, bare arsed with my tiny todger poking out from under my fat bellii (the plural of belly - don't Google it, I made it up).
Nevertheless, I stretched to the best of my ability and managed to not fall off the gurney.
"Thank you Mr Familiar. Now if you'll just draw your knees up to your chest as far as you can."
    "Huh?
You know where I've just come from, right?
You know I've just been gutted?"
Ok, that's what I thought, not what I said...
Being eager to please, and still somewhat off my chops, I did as the nurse required...
"Very good Mr Familiar. Just hold it there...."
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is where sh*t got all kinds of f*cked up...
All of a sudden, without warning, without a heads-up, with even a 'get to know me' drink, Nurse nice had turned into Nurse Nasty and was jamming SOMETHING in my doot..
So here lies me - all naked, groggy and vulnerable, being anally probed by Nurse Nasty, without so much as a hint of foreplay!!
Of course, my immediate bodily reaction is to shut up shop, which means I'm now laying on my side naked, with a medical swab poking out of my tightly clenched buttocks, with Nurse Nasty tugging on said swab, trying to remove it.
I'm not really sure what happened next - I was too busy wondering if this was normal or if the nurse just liked/disliked me especially...
Anyway, the point of my story is - don't worry about being all exposed and stuff on the table. You sleep thru that stuff.
just be careful should you encounter Nurse Nasty and her henchmen - and her penchant for a surprise
    dooting!!

    Hi there,
I am Kayla. Was approved by my surgeon with Kaiser today for the sleeve, and have started my 24-week pre-op program. This app doesn't seem conducive to connect—is it better on the desk top? Also, how do you all use social media? I started an IG account (@fatgirlsvelte), and am hoping to find good support there.

I'm most proud of overcoming fear. I'm still afraid but I walk through it every day. I filed for divorce from an emotionally abusive husband. I moved my daughters and me out of that house. My WLS got me started on a healthier life. I'm proud to face life on life's terms without self medicating with food or alcohol or pills. This has all happened since my surgery. A part of me knew it would. I am proud to be on an honest path of self discovery and reclaiming my soul.

I had recently got sleeved and I started to overthink and worry as my date got closer. I thought I wouldn't be able to have my fav dishes again...I thought something would go wrong.. I thought to myself "am I really ready for this?" But yes..I was.. I haven't had any complications. It's just a tool to get you started on your weight loss journey. .. that's how I see it now ???? before I went into the OR I cried because I was scared. But u knew I wanted and needed this and I also remembered my dad went through a bigger surgery than I was about to go through and he came out fine... I think if your really ready you'll know but thst over thinking is normal..good luck ????

When I had my first child, she came a month early so my pedicure was a hot mess, I hadn't shaved my legs or cootch for 6 months or so (couldn't reach or see) and I had eaten enchiladas the day before so every time I pushed, I was "productive". To make matters worse, my baby nurse was a girl I despised in college and they were short handed so I couldn't switch.

Seriously. It could be worse and they have SEEN worse.

Maybe I'm wired up differently.....once I came home from the hospital....the absolute last thing I wanted to think about was food.
My response to food make me the morbidly obese guy that I was. It led to me having surgery for weight loss. Let me repeat that.....it led me to seek surgical undertaking in order to gain better control over weight loss.
I wanted nothing to do with food.
I was now on a new plan....and have been ever since. I eat to live. I no longer live to eat. Simple concept, but huge in scope.
For the record.......since the date of surgery the absolute only hunger I've had is "head hunger". There has been zero real hunger.

anna81 reacted to NeedaBreak4Me in Band or Sleeve? So confused :(
I think what the ex banders are trying to say... it isn't the weight loss that is the issue... it is the band actually failing.
There are not many people who have lasted over 10 years with the band as the band itself fails... you get slippage, erosion into the stomach or your body starts rejecting it.
You can follow all the instructions from the surgeon, eat well, exercise etc, but once it fails... it becomes impossible to eat normally, you get pressure, pain and sliming.
Once the band starts failing and its removed, you gain the weight back... even if you are behaving.
All the best with your surgery... i hope it goes well.
Oh and on a side note...a friendly suggestion. i would suggest not calling people "failures" just because their wls failed... it invalidates the persons effort without knowing their story ☺

My Doctor said that YES the band is still on the market but he doesn't believe for long. So he said he'll do a band if you absolutely beg him to, but highly discourages it and suggests the sleeve. Over all, it's more natural because there are no foreign objects in your body and there is no jumbling the way you were originally created. Just taking something out.
Also, little personal story to add: my mother's good friend had the band and she is sick from it almost everyday. It doesn't stop her from eating at all, she's now over 400lbs. It only slows her down, but not by much.
I believe when food is an addiction and/or is something that's hard for individuals to control (could be due to medical conditions etc), the sleeve forces better diet, encourages exercise, and better Portion Control overall.

I had the band.... and now have the sleeve. .. the difference is like night and day!
I honestly would not recommend the band to anyone.... i was a success story on the band... and it functioned well for 5 years... then i had complications and had it out... gained a lot of weight back... and completely screwed up my metabolism... i am now sleeved and so far so good.
From someone who has had both, the sleeve is much more low maintenance and the restriction is different.
Restriction with the band was more uncomfortable than it is with the sleeve.

    Ok everyone, here goes.....
I started my one week pre-op diet today. My surgery is in one week, June 7th, 2016 and my nerves are really kicking in. I have seen several people posting their stories in this forum, so I thought I'd give it a go. It will be nice to have one place I can update everyone and keep track of my progress. After reading so many inspiring stories in this discussion thread, I hope that one day, I can do the same.
I'm all stocked up on Protein shakes/ powders (Premier Protein shakes, Unjury protein powders, Syntrax protein powders, and GENEPRO protein powder), broths, teas, and sugar free Jello. Luckily, my pre-op diet allows a dinner consisting of 3 ounces lean meat, 1 cup veggies, 1/2 cup fruit. Thank goodness!
And now for the hard part, posting my weight. Sigh.....First, my height is 5'6"
    HW- 290+
    SW-287
    GW- 160-175
There...I did it. Hopefully, I will never see those numbers again.
