Issues with Co workers after my surgery
I work in a school and spoke to the school nurse about my surgery. If I needed assistance would she help me? I was encouraged by her nice comments about how I'm taking my health into my hands and doing something about my diabetes, high bp and high chol. She was extremely positive. On the other hand, I see coworkers whispering about me (in a most obvious way) including ones I only see on occasion. I understand the curiosity but why not just ask me, don't gossip! One teacher made it a point to say to another teacher (very loudly while I was in her presence) how she HAS TO go to the hospital with her sister who's getting a tummy tuck because she's "TOO LAZY to eat and exercise correctly"! When I left the room, I heard them laughing. I spoke to my boss to let her know about my surgery in case it hindered my time frame going back to work and she smiled and said she couldn't wait to see me after summer vacation and "watch me waste away", which I know she meant in a somewhat positive way. I know some coworkers are just mean spirited and need to laugh at my situation but that makes me even more determined to be successful, and lose tons of weight, so I can smile and enjoy my extended, healthy life!

Do you know about ASMBS? (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery)
At my support group yesterday, the doctor mentioned this website that gave so much information and clarified many misconceptions about bariatric surgery and surgeons. I thought people might find this site enlightening. https://asmbs.org/patients/bariatric-surgery-misconceptions Enjoy!

Marvelous, glorious Water!
Some days I can barely get in 64+ ounces now, let alone after surgery with a smaller pouch... But I'll try! Hope you can do it too! By the way, after surgery it's 100 oz of liquid, which includes other drinks and fluids. (explained by the NUT yesterday at the support group)

I was under the impression that the staples stay in your stomach and the outer skin is held together with glue.

Swallowing air
I can only suggest to drink slower and sip your Water. Even when thirsty, since this may make us want to gulp our water. I hope you feel better soon!

JULY surgery dates!
Hello July Sleevers, I had my chest xray and upper GI done..... drinking barium is worth 62 calories... lol! So you know, Drink lots of Water after these tests are done. You will become constipated after having drunk only a few ounces of the barium Fluid, It sits in your stomach all day and feels like a heavy rock. You do lose your appetite but it takes a few days to be "regular" again. EKG and preop are next while I'm on the liquid diet. Now this part really scares me. I'm not pleasant to be around when I'm "HANGRY" (hungry and angry) My family is being very supportive and I appreciate that. I only hope I can keep my senses while I'm liquid dieting for 2 weeks. P.S. I lost my surgery folder when I hid it from Mom, and I need to get a new one for all my surgery preop and postop information. *SIGH*

Is your surgery a secret?
I'm telling my Mom 2 weeks before surgery so she can 1. get everything off her chest and 2. prepare herself because I AM GOING TO HAVE IT.

Wine?
At my first support group meeting, they had a woman who spoke about her experience with wine. She had an addictive personality, hence the eating, and after drinking 1 glass of wine with dinner, she continued to do so EVERY NIGHT until she became an alcoholic. When going to AA she found that 13 in her group were former WLS patients. Coincidence??? I don't know but I'm not getting involved in another addiction after recovering from my food addiction. I have fought too hard to get to where I am now in Pre Op.

Is your surgery a secret?
@@Jessica Singleton I'm like you. I over share what I'm going through and with anyone who's interested. I'm not worried about their chatter behind my back or the comments they might make, perhaps because I don't care about their opinion. This is MY Journey... what I do and how I feel about it is my concern and nobody elses.
