I want to be able to bike again and be comfortable while doing it. I could never find a seat that fit me. Also to walk without pain in knees or back. To buy clothes in section not labeled "plus", that is not located in corner away from everyone else. Also, just to feel satisfied when eating.

Stop smoking...it is the worst thing you can do after surgery. I work in the OR of a hospital and have seen the most horrible cases of the results of continual smoking after their gastric by-pass.
I actually quit 2 months before surgery and up until about a month ago wanted to start and then I seen what the long term effects of smoking were on the pouch...not good...quit...it is very serious the complications.

Although it's been 2 yrs since quitting, I can say that there are times when I do still have a small crave for a smoke. It is easily dismissed, but I think that will happen the rest of my life. I smoked for almost 40 years, and yes, it is a difficult habit to quit. But, make sure that you are in the right mindset and that should make it much easier. I quit because I didn't want to lose my eyesight from diabetes, and just the combination of smoking with diabetes was bad. I knew if I wanted to live a longer, healthier life then the cigarettes had to go.

I had to quit smoking a month before surgery, my surgeons requirement. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. I stayed smoke free for two years post op. Unfortunately I started smoking again about two years ago. I'm having trouble finding the same motivation I did four years ago, but keep trying

I had to quit several years ago when I had breast reduction surgery. My surgeon wouldn't touch me unless I was 6 week nicotine free. Which mean no nicotine replacement therapy. I used the medication Chantix. A lot of people can't tolerate that medication but luckily I wasn't one of them. Think I was on it for 2-3 months. Good luck!! It's hard but oh so worth it!!

I am waiting to get approval from Medicare also. They cover the wls, am thinking they will cover the follow up skin care to as long as your doctor makes it clear it is needed for life quality. Let know what you find out. I am interested.

Doesnt matter how fast or slow you lose, you'll have extra skin. Im 33 and my body looks like a melted candle. Medicare will not cover lose skin as far as I know.

No matter what, if you lose a lot of weight, if you are pre-disposed to loose skin, you will have loose skin. Your genetics and age will play more into it than anything else.
I'm 51. I already know I'm going to hate the loose skin. I just really hope it's not too horrible where everyone can see it (OK, so I'm vane)... I hope 'the girls' come through this with at least a little dignity! LOL
I've decided once I get my bills paid off for this surgery (insurance covered it, but I had a 3K deductible), then I'll start a skin removal fund and see if I can save enough to get things fixed.

Ooo I had my helix done. And an industrial, double conch, single conch, lobes, tongue, and eyebrow. Eyebrow came out when I was probably 21. The rest I actually took out for surgery and never put them back in. I'm also looking into having a few tattoos removed (they're really not well done at all). I want to completely transform myself from my previous self. Congrats on your piercing tho!!

Yes, true. I don't plan on getting the surgery or getting approved until August anyway, but this is definitely our last bag now.

Coolest thing happened. I went into a consignment store I've always wanted to shop at but couldn't because they only go up to size xl. in there, I find a cute jacket, and I'm looking for a shell to wear under it. I ask the sales lady for help, and she goes to the Medium rack. I think she's nuts. Then she picks out this pretty sleeveless top and says "try this--it may be too big for you, though... it's a size 16."
Now, it turns out I DO wear a size 16, but the idea that she looked at me and thought I was even smaller than that was baffling. I still can't get over it! And lately my littlest daughter has been hugging me and saying "you're so skinny!"
And finally, I went on a date the other night, and we were sitting on the couch, and the guy took my legs and swung them across his. I was shocked that my legs are light enough that A) he could lift them, and B) he would want to have them over his. In some part of my mind I'm stil as big as a buffalo... but other people are telling me something very different!
    What a head trip!

This week my stepdaughter told me she had a surprise for me. So she runs upstairs and grabs a pair of her size 10 jeans, runs back down and was like try them on! I said I don't think these will fit they are just too tiny. She kept saying try them on, you don't see that you really are that small so I hop in the bathroom thinking there is no way they will even fit around my thigh.....and then they did and they zipped and buttoned with no problems! She even gave them to me

Be comfortable! It seems like I am at a weight that it hurts to stand, sit or lay down let alone do anything else in life. I am looking forward to being comfortable again!

This is by far my favorite thread here at this forum. Every pre-op member should read through every post. It is a great motivation while going through the whole process. Keep sharing everyone.... on July 23 I will be one step closer to sharing my own NSVs.

For me the biggest thing is still being able to cross my legs like a lady. I just LOVE how it looks and feels! Or to sit in a normal size chair and be able to tuck my legs up under myself. Hell, I may even give Yoga another try now that I can get into some of those positions without cuting off my breath!
