I did not have to do a pre-op diet either. My BMI was 40. The pre-op diet is to shrink the liver so the stomach can be accessed more easily. So if you have less weight to lose you may not have needed the pre-op diet. Good Luck to you on your journey!

My doctor does not have me on any kind of a pre-op diet. Nothing. Nada. I'll be on liquids the day before surgery after 3:00 pm. I keep reading about people who are on a week and 2 weeks of liquids only before surgery. Could it be because my BMI is not extremely high? It's 39. Am I going to be OK for surgery???

My BMI is really high and I am not on any pre-operative diet. I think it REALLY depends on the surgeon and their preferences. They ran your bloodword, your tests, they know what your body needs.

    HI Aus_girl.
I can understand your disappointment. However the doc would have had a couple of valid reasons for not wanting to fill you. You are only 5 weeks post op and there's still healing to be done there. Perhaps there's irritation there due to all the vomiting etc? That cannot be good for the healing process. You don't say how much you vomited or had food stuck, but it would ring alarm bells to me. That is definately not normal. It begs the question that perhaps you may not be chewing your food until it almost dissolves in your mouth, it could be that you are eating too quickly or perhaps the wrong things. Have you seen a dietician?
The doc is doing the right thing by you, not for him. You are paying him for that privilege and while it is a huge downer, he knows best. I know you understand this although you don't want to hear this right now.
I could suggest that you have a few days off the solid food and go back to mushies until the vomiting settles down a bit. I know you are hungry, I know it I have been in bandster hell (and still I sometimes go through it depending on the day!) but you have to stick with the rules to make this work.
As a general rule, I don't eat anything until lunch time. I have a cuppacino and a Sanitarium Up-and-Go for Breakfast, I have tuna, avo and mayo for lunch and for dinner some Protein and a salad. This is pretty much every day for me. 8 weeks post op, I have not once PB'd nor has anything stuck.
Consider changing what you are eating to give your body something different. Even if it's a Soup or porridge for one of your meals, I am sure if your band is having some difficulties, that it will be relieved to have something slip through it rather than get stuck.
I feel for you, but remember this is a slow process. You loss in 5 weeks is staggering, you should be proud of that, and keep building on that success. Things will improve - I am sure.
    Hugs

Alright, I'm all about the 80s but I have NEVER heard of that show BBK! :confused2:
And I also have to ask, what's wrong with BIG hair?? :tt2:

Yep - love the 80's but I've never heard of this one either. My mom was pretty picky about what we could watch on tv - drove me nuts. I was never allowed to watch MTV! grrrr
I had the big hair :tt2: The bigger the better - especially in TX!!

Oh boy, big hair. Stylish, not. Erk. I used to use a can of hairspray at a time.
And I had a book that had instructions for about 50 different styles of eye makup involving about five colours each, gawd, is it any wonder I wear virtually NO make up now?
I dont remember that show though, but SheSmiles does so it must have aired here. I remember more fondly bands like Wham - and those Tshirts are all the rage again now here, and Australian bands like Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl, oh, remember Human League and Duran Duran? I saw Tears for Fears in concert too. And I loved Style Council.

Missy, we all know of GLOBAL WARMING, it is my contention that big Auquanet hair contributes to this problem with damaging the air when you spray. Also, my hair has just recovered from the 80's, I can't put it through that again!

Okay, so I will be getting banded in exactly 9 days, May 2nd, and I'm scared out of my mind, but not of the surgery itself. I'm actually scared of being THIN!! I've been overweight since I was a small child, I don't know anyother body, any other way of life; I've only dreamed of being thin, but never actually thought it would ever happen for REAL. So as ironic as it may sound, I'm just scared of being THIN!! Has anyone else encountered such a feeling, or am I just plain weird?

allison - kudos for going through with the sleep study!! the pulmonologist i had to go to for clearance thinks i have apnea, and suggested two nights of sleep study. i said "no thank ya!" if i have apnea, i'm not going to use a cpap. just not gonna happen.
i also can't imagine sleeping in a bed with people watching me or monitoring me.. how on earth are you supposed to be rested/how is that going to produce normal results? i dunno, the whole idea totally creeped me out, so i give you credit for going through with it!!!!!

Way to Go Allison!!! I'm sure everything will work out for you! I'll keep you in my prayers until you get your date.
On how Ipicked my date from a previous post.... It was the week between school being out and summer school so in theory I wouldn't have to tell anyone at work about my plans. We ended up with a ton of snow days so now I have to get a sub for the last three days of school. I just told my boss it was a personal surgery. Not a lie. At this time only 7 people other than you all know.
I am getting ready to order the Unjury so I'll let you all know the verdict soon.

I am two weeks until surgery!!!
I am SOOOO excited, but also a little nervous. What if I still can't lose the weight? What a total failure I am if I have surgery and still end up fat?!?
I finally told my thin sister. I was very nervous to tell her about it because I thought that she would be like, "just use willpower". She has made comments like that in the past... She was very supportive of my decision.
Anyway, I am excited, but a little anxious, too. Don't get me wrong- not anxious enough to think that I am making a mistake. I know that I need to do this while I am still young (BTW, 35 is still young! ) and in relative good health.

Hey marineliebe, I bet we are all feeling like this, I know I am! I think especially since I have NEVER been thin, I feel like maybe I'm supposed to be like this! I mean, I've done everything, and nothing has worked! There have been a few pounds lost here and there, but I have simply never been a normal or healthy weight. Its so strange to think that if this really does work for me, I shold be at a weight that I haven't seen since probably 5th grade!! I think it might be a little different for people that were thin when they were young and now that they are older have gained weight. Its so strange to think of me being thin, (will I look 10 again? lol) which is why I'm so afraid that this, along with everyone else, won't work.

    Hello May Bander's --
I just got my surgery date -- yeah -- its May 23rd -- Friday of Memorial Day Weekend -- that way no one at work needs to know. I totally can empathize with how everyone is feeling -- I am terrified that this won't work for me and that I won't lose any weight and will feel like a complete failure. But here is how I am trying to think about it -- I KNOW if I don't do it, I won't lose any weight and am pretty sure a year from now I will be the same or heavier -- so that is probably the worst outcome. Chances are it will work and if it doesn't then I am no worse off. (OK maybe a little worse off but I am trying to be an optimist :blushing:). My doctors is being really good -- trying to set realistic expectations for 30-40lbs in the first year -- at first that sounded so SLOW i was disappointed but then I thought -- hey it took me 10 years to get this big if it takes a few years to get it off so be it -- maybe that will mean my skin will snap back. Good luck fellow Mayster's and I hope we can all stick together and support each other through this crazy journey we are about to embark on.
