Congratulations on 10 years! My surgery is June 14th so we are real close. How about a romantic carriage ride in the park? Gondolea? I am not sure where you live. Comedy show? (not as romantic) Concert in the park? Go see a play? Couples massage? I am not sure if that was helpful but just somethings I , myself might consider if I were in your position.

One thing that will help is go back to your basics. Make sure you get in enough Protein and your Water. Also maybe up your exercise. I am 3 and 1/2 years out so I know it gets harder to lose weight after we get further out there. There is a 5-day reset on line. I think you can look it up on line. Good Luck

This is what you call an unreliable source. She has a degree in divinity and in massage therapy. She isn't even qualified to speak on this stuff. Look for peer reviewed sources written by scholars with nutrition and medicine credentials. This article is worthless. Also it's laughable that the article mentions her being a member of the American Medical Writers association as if it credentials her -- anyone can become a member. Best of all, the website where this article is posted is selling  Calcium supplements! The author is trying to sell you a product. This is exactly why peer-reviewed scholarly sources are where we need to get our information when making decisions on our health.
The one good thing about this link is that the bottom has a list of articles from which the author claims she got her info (even though she doesn't properly cite them) and the articles themselves provide some insight (but not enough to be extremely worried -- maybe enough to be diligently adherent with Vitamin supplementation recommendations).

First of all - Blondie66 - rarely do any of us have the eating down perfect. If you think you could do better maybe start by changing just one small thing, get that in place as a habit and then another small thing to change. Most of us can't change everything at once - it's too overwhelming. If you've kept the weight off you must be doing a lot of things right!

Lindairene - that's a big change to make in a short period of time. The first thing I'd probably do is look carefully at what changed in the last 6 months. Did eating patterns, types of food, or amounts of food change? Did your exercise routine change? Did you go thru hormonal changes? etc. Once you know what changed then you can work on changing them back. If nothing changed then it probably is a matter for the medical professionals. If you're having a majorly hard time changing things back then it might be good to get counselling or some coaching. Good luck?

I liked what@Orionburn said. Cutting It back before surgery will help.

I'm here to tell you how to get caffeine without soda. Bad me! 🤣

First off, your doctor may have a time frame after surgery with a no caffeine period. Follow that. I think it was 3 or 4 months with my surgeon.

Secondly, use it responsibly- sounds silly I know. Just like so many other things, too much isn't good. I try to keep my consumption low and not over book myself. I have to remember that for me caffeine can help me but shouldn't be my fuel/I'm not supposed to be able to do everything.

I don't worry about dehydration because I get in a lot of fluids. But orionburn gave the advice I've heard about replacing the fluids.

I've found that I do have more energy since losing weight but still struggle sometimes. I've also found that working out helps my energy levels. If I workout first thing, I'm better throughout the day.

After surgery you'll find your balance.

Mio energy Water flavor drops are great. There are some other brands but they tear up my system. A lot of the other caffeine products have carbonation, which I avoid.

There are pre workout powders that have caffeine but they also have other things in them. Since I have never heard of these things and haven't had time to research them, I avoid these powders.

Good luck and all the best to you!

Absolutely normal...everyone's recovery time varies. Not that you are but try not to compare yourself to other people who have had the surgery. The best thing you can do for yourself right now is take the time to listen to your body. I have been a mentor/educator for almost 3 years, also a patient, and I have worked with a lot of fellow patients who ignored what their body was telling them. Such as lifting things that were to heavy to soon. Some developed infections under their incisions or hernias. Remember those incisions on the skin are just points of entry you have had a dramatic surgery. I often have to talk to spouses and children and explain this to them in hopes that they will be more helpful. Best of luck to you and much success.

This is soooo normal . Stop worrying about it. Listen to your bodies, people. Rest, heal eat or drink what you are told. Don't over do it or you will regret it, trust me. If you can't already follow post op instructions you are in trouble.

I've a sleever but we caffeine freaks all go through the same thing
There's a lot of debate on the dehydration topic. My NUT warned of the same thing - that if you have caffeine you have to "replace" the Water it's going to help you pass. I'll say this - I peed a helluva lot more and with more urgency when I was a caffeine junkie prior to surgery, so I don't think it's without merit.
I did make the mistake of not cutting caffeine off sooner prior to surgery, so the fatigue right after surgery seemed a hundred times worse. After a few weeks my energy levels began to come back and now I feel back to normal. Mornings do seem a bit sluggish and harder to get going but it's gotten better as of late. I've tried to drink regular coffee and it hasn't agreed with me well since my sleeve. I can tolerate some now. When I make coffee I do about 25% regular coffee and 75% Decaf. I've actually come to like not having to rely on caffeine so much. I just love my morning coffee.
Btw...seems most doctor's require a sleep apnea test as part of the approval process so inquire about that. At least you can find out for sure if you do have it or not.

I had the sleeve done, but have found myself in the same boat. The good thing is that you have reached out for help, and you should be very proud. That's hard in itself! I think one of the biggest things is accountability. You were able to admit that you are struggling, and that you want help.
The biggest thing is remembering how you felt when you were at your heaviest, and where you were at when you decided to have the surgery. The last thing you want is to end up back in that boat, because then what is there left to do? Just stay strong, this are the things I am telling myself at least.

Are you pre or post op? Just curious, why that calorie range?

The Premier Protein drinks sit well with me. Isopure unflavored too.

Dannon light and fit yogurt or the oikos triple zero. Some places have a carb control yogurt that a lot of people like too.

    Low fat cheese.
Lean meats like another person suggested.

I also like Quest Protein Bars.

Just want to send out a rave because I'm happy with my fitbit.
About 9 months ago I got a fitbit charge hr and have loved having it. A few months ago the band started to come away from the sensor. Not a big deal but it kept getting worse and was starting fall apart. I called fitbit support and got a free replacement. It was a great experience.
This is a picture of the old one next to the new one. What a difference.
    All the best to everyone.

Lean meats like chicken turkwy and fish are high in Protein. Protein powders I would watch the sugar and carb contents in them and make sure protein is high in them.

Hey! Way to go!! When was your surgery?
I'm with you in the terrified of regaining camp. I have put so much work into this change, as I'm sure you have!
Not sure if it will help but this is what I'm doing.
Focusing on staying on the plan. Instead of focusing on my scale as much, I'm focusing on my number of active minutes and being consistent with my workouts. (I love my fitbit.) I'm focusing on more consistent mile times and enjoying my workouts. This outlook is helping me with my current stall. I'm feeling stronger physically and not so defeated when the scale doesn't move because I'm doing what I can.
Eating is a little tricky for me for a lot of reasons. I'm trying to focus on giving my body the macro nutrients it needs and paying attention to how different foods taste and make me feel. Mindful eating.
In some ways, I'm the same person I was before and in others ways not so much. So I'm also trying to figure out who I am now. And how to make good habits and a better relationship with food part of that new identity.
I feel like this is all very vague and unhelpful. So I hope some people who have done this longer can give you some better feedback. Keep going and recognize how far you've come. All the best!

Hi dear, expect mood swings, I understand it's very normal, although I wouldn't really call them mood swings, more like severe PMS. It's due to the hormone dump as the fat melts the hormones stored in the fat get dumped suddenly into your body and will affect you. I can go from a regular calm mood to rage or depression in seconds, after 6 months it's a lot better but I remember the first few months were pretty bad. Good luck and hang in there, it does get better.

I am sorry you are experiencing problems.
I would recommend that you review your discharge instructions. The first two concerns that you expressed caused me to believe that you need to contact your surgeons office and let them know what is going on. My discharge instructions read:
    Contact your physician when:
    Uncontrolled or increased abdomen pain.
Persistent diarrhea beyond the first week after discharge or more than 6 diarrhea stools in a day. [Having a bloody diarrhea -shooting blood - for 2 days should mean that you immediately let your surgeon know this.]
So based on this, I suspect you have a complication that needs to be resolved sooner than later.
As far as your third concern about bruising. This is normal. Also you have probably been taking a blood thinner to prevent blood clots after surgery. Blood thinners will make major bruising problems. You site of incisions will look very bad for around a month but then it should get better.

Thank you all so much for your replies and your support; it helps me to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with this. Just trying to figure out how to word my post had me really thinking about what it is that I'm even afraid will happen if I become a thin person. A few months ago I was reading some article recounting women's experiences being sexually harassed and/or assaulted (groped, etc.). It hit me that my defense mechanism of being obese since puberty has been quite effective in protecting me against assault and most harassment as an adult -- or at least it feels that way. What I realize is ironic is that, though I feel like I'm safer at a higher weight, I'm so out of shape right now that I'd be less able to run or defend myself against an attacker currently than I would be if I was 100 lbs lighter and physically fit.
I do need to get back in therapy, for sure. I've have done some work on this issue, but it just seems to be so ingrained in my identity. I was also thinking about how it's been uncomfortable for me to receive compliments on my weight loss in the past because it feels to me like people are admitting that they didn't like who I was before.
I'm going to check out the recommended books. Thanks again.

That sounds like maybe deficiencies in Calcium or & Vitamin d or both. I have a history of running low on Vitamin D (mind you my surgery is not for a few months) so I have experienced cavities and enamel erosion and it was due to deficiencies. So I increased both Vitamin D and calcium citrate and i am much better. Symptoms improved tremendously. So, thats why its important after the bypass to follow guidelines the nutritionist sets in how much more is needed. Vitamins are very important before bypass and much more important afterwards but also in the correct amount tailored for bypass patients. If you look at the extra Calcium & Vitamin d we need to have to keep us healthy it can give you an idea on how important they are as well as Iron and vitamin B 12.< /p>
