Hi Linda: Will you be going down there alone? I am traveling alone down there. It would be nice if you would want to meet up before hand. Let me know, I work in Chino, but live in Corona which neither is far from you. It would be nice to have a buddy through this process. Let me know if you are interested, Jill.

I know... I don't understand why it has to be two weeks when others only have a few days. I'm following the plan because I know my surgeon knows what he's doing, but geeze!

The positive stories VASTLY outnumber the negative ones. Most of the horror stories you hear are urban legends or can be attributed to singular surgeons. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. There are MANY excellent surgeons in Mexico, just like in any other country. I've heard plenty of "horror stories" about botched surgeries in the US too. Should I hold those against ALL of the surgeons here? Of course not.
If you do your research, examine credentials, ask lots of questions, and talk to past patients, there is no reason you can't find a safe and reputable surgeon. My bariatric surgeon was named one of the top 15 in the world. My plastic surgeon is one of the top rated on RealSelf which is the go to site for researching and sharing plastic surgery outcomes.

I have ibs and it doesn't affect the surgery at all. I had surgery Feb 12th and it actually has helped. I am still sensitive to milk but I've only had like 3 episodes of ibs symptoms. I don't even really take my medicine anymore. It's been nice.

Same here. I was never diagnosed but my sister and mom have problems... I don't think it would prevent you from having the surgery. I didn't realize it until post-op (4.5 weeks now), but I never have stomach aches or emergency bathroom stops anymore. It could have something to do with going gluten free (post-op diet is effectively that) but even eggs don't bother me like they used to.

I had the sleeve on 1/29/16. I don't regret my decision one bit but I want to advise you on things I'd wish I'd followed:
    1. Get your daily Doctor recommend Protein in however you can. And Take the Vitamins. I'm 4 months post op and have started losing lots of hair at the root!! Yikes!!! I couldn't stomach the vitamins the first few weeks and barely started getting in the protein 1 month ago because I was not at all hungry. Drink the Protein drinks with the most protein i.e. Premiere Protein Drinks, powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury
    2. Exercise - even if it's the elliptical or walking 10 min a day to start. It will break your plateaus.
    3. Energy - I was exhausted the first 2 months post op. Healing and eating so little exhausts you. I started to feel incredible energy gains about 3 months post op. I've started Orange theory (1 hour each) workouts and I can do the whole session albeit awkward and slow but I can do it!!!
    Good luck on your journey!!

Since I'm a cash patient and going to Mexico, I don't have any classes or evaluations to do. I will have access to their NUT for 2 yrs after surgery as well as the doctor to answer any concerns. Even though it takes a lot of time for ppl going through their insurance, feel blessed that you don't have to pay cash and go out of the country.

My Surgery date is 14 June and waiting to hear about pre-op appointments. I've found changing my diet already has been quite easy. I'm not worried about the actual surgery, just about the right amount of Protein and Water getting in post op. That does kinda freak me out. Fingers crossed.

Getting sleeved next month and I read in here about "foamies." Never heard of it before. Sounds awful and I am the biggest baby when it comes to vomiting. It's been a phobia since I was a little girl. Also, seems a lot of ppl get GERD/acid reflux after being sleeved. I'm starting to panic. Should I cancel surgery because now I'm having doubts about it?

Luckily, I've never had the "foamies" either, but our NUT did mention it pre-op and said that eating slowly, chewing your food to "applesauce" consistency and taking small sips of liquids will prevent it. The biggest recommendation was to make sure you eat slowly. Take a bite, chew well, swallow, and allow your body a minute or two to see how it reacts and make sure you aren't full...
...after surgery, your eyes will definitely be bigger than your stomach!!

I'm so sorry to hear that @stacyrg2. I really hope things improve for you. I'm worried about being one that develops GERD after too.

Don't make your decisions based on some issue that may or may not occur. I was/am a VERY squeamish patient, so I know how you feel. I had surgery at the end of December. I only vomited a little the first few days after surgery. This can happen after any surgery, by the way! If you follow the guidelines and listen to your body, you'll be just fine!

Unfortunately, I am one who developed GERD post sleeve. I didn't have it before surgery, and if I did, I may have selected Bypass over Sleeve, but I would not have cancelled my surgery entirely. I'm now discussing converting to bypass as a way to control my "out of control" reflux. With everything I'm going through, I'm still grateful for my surgery and the new lease on life it gave me.
