@ Lauratro, I also have the same concern and just went to my pulmonologist to try and get this persisant, cronic cough under control.Do you have acid reflux??? I think my cough is partly do to that. But for what its worth the doc said the pain meds would subside the cough. I still worry though. My doc put me on flonase,among other acid reflux meds. But one think that seems to work is a mixture of 1 tsp baking soda,1 tsp of sea salt mixed in 1 glass of distilled Water. Use a plastic syringe that the drug store will give you ( prescription area). Fill the syringe with the mixture and use,as a nasal wash. It works well to dry up the nose and mucus. I do this 2 x a day. Hope it helps. I have been to the doctor about this many times and they think it's from allergies so they gave me Claritin and a nasal spray. It never worked. I'm convinced that it has to do with acid reflux. I didn't start getting it till I started to gain weight. I have a nedi pot that I've used many times and does help a little bit. Thanks for the advice with the baking soda too. I wanted the sleeve in the beginning of this journey, but as I researched, and after my first consult with the surgeon, I told him about my long time reflux/ gerd problem. He,said " yes, many people get acid reflux worse,after the sleeve, AND he is,starting to see 4 to 5 years after the sleeve procedure the reflux is horrendous for many people and then they end up having a revision to RNY. So with that said, im not willing to chance this or,am I willing to do a revision. So its bypass for me. Also the bypass is the gold standard of WLS. But never the less, its all scary. I was told just the opposite. I had the sleeve in 2013 and rny was not an option by this particular surgeon. After going through the sleeve I had gerd so bad never had it before the sleeve. My sleeve failed and I went to a new Dr, was going to have a revision done to it but once the new Dr explained that a sleeve only guarantees you to lose 60-90 pounds and rny is for 90 and over, I chose to revision to an rny. My surgeon said the sleeve is easier and faster. I would listen to surgeon #1, wouldnt you hate to have a revision to rny if you ended up with gerd after the sleeve. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

No actual books. Countless articles and took a 12 week course, every Friday for an hour and a half. I was pretty set on sleeve but this surgeon, as he was examining my meeical record he looks at me and says "oh yeah, we're doing the roux en y".. "we'll go over it in a bit". He seems to insist the rny will cure my GERD and the sleeve will make it worse. I ended up reluctantly agreeing to the rny so he put "roux en y possible sleeve gastrectomy" on the concent form we submitted. He did say that if I insist on sleeve that he will order a GI x-ray to look for a hernia. Said he didn't want to do the sleeve cause he'll just have to go back in and do the rny when the acid gets worse. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App Yes that is true. What he said he is seeing more and more is 3 to 4 years out from the sleeve, people are getting horrible gerd daily and end up getting a revision to the sleeve. Hope that is helpful. Im in a similar situation. I have not had surgery yet, as i will have my 2nd consult soon. I have gerd, have had it for years and when the surgeon and I discussed it he said, " well if you get reflux you always can convert to bypass". I was,a bit frustated with that comment and, I said, "No, at 58 years old im only doing this once". He said 1/3 of sleeve patients will still have gerd, and he has been seeing sleeve patients 3 to 4 years out with severe gerd and going the revision route because its very bad and happens daily.
