I have told two people at work—and have requested absolute privacy which they have honored. Should it get around though, I know comments like this will come out.
Don't defend. This is a TOUGH decision we make, and if someone says "they could do it," then they need to follow through. Reactions like that are a mirror of their own trepidation. Rock on lady.

So I bit the bullet today and told someone I work with about having bariatric surgery. She mentioned to me her doctors have recommended it to her. The next thing out of her mouth really shocked me. She said she knows she can do it by eating get right and exercising. Do people really think that having bariatric surgery is a miracle and you wake up the next day skinny. Don't they realize it us a tool in the journey and you still have to eat better and exercise.
    Just had to vent...

    Hey everyone.
Im new in here. Im looking for answers to a few things.
My girlfriend her her Gastric Sleeve operation in Greece the 31/05 - 2016. Everything went well, and she was up and walking around within 2-3 days. We then went home and she started loosing weight and everything was good. Then 9 days post surgery, she started having left shoulder pains. Then we rushed to ER with 40.2 celcious fever. They admited her, and they did a xray, and they dident see much. Then the day after they thought it was a leak or an abscess. So the CT scan was right. She had an abscess close to the liver. They drained it, and they did a "air test" and there was no leak. Then she was on hospital for 7 days, only on a feeding tube. 3 days ago they did a swallow test and it showed a little liquid out of the stomach. So they put her on feeding tube again. They say its micro problem, and the leak should heal up by it self. So my question to everyone. I seem to only hear all the bad "took 20 surgerys and 8 weeks on the hospital" stories.. There must be success stories.. Bring em on!! I need something to smile at
Btw her infection (CRP) numbers where 379. Now they are almost normal.. She is around 20 now. A bit of infection on her tonge.. Guess that needs to be fixed before her numbers are all good

That's what I thought! Granted, the show was filmed in 2007, and these patients were about 600lbs, so I guess that could increase the odds, but it literally took my breath away. I have 2 small kids.

Yes. The pre-op diet is designed to shrink your liver. You still need to make sure you are healthy as possible for surgery.

I think I like the idea of getting the biggest size at a normal size clothing store and just trying it on periodically until it fits and then I know I can shop there

It's good to hear from someone in the same position that I am. It's so very true that love and sexual attraction aren't always the same. I hope for both of us that our spouses respond positively to our changing bodies.

One-- you CAN be thin-- don't doubt that for a minute, but seek a goal that works for you!
My starting weight was 337, and I'm at 210 now. The worst of my excess skin is my wings (arms). I have skin on my stomach of course, but it doesn't 'hang' or otherwise protrude horribly/awkwardly. I can easily live with my stomach. I've gone from a 46dd to a 38D. Mine haven't take on the 'tube socks with rocks in them' look I've heard other describe. They hung before , just seem a bit deflated now. Nicely hidden in clothes/bras etc. like you, I'll never be able to afford plastics. Even if I did have a financial windfall, I'd hesitate in plastics. Arms would be my hands down must do-- anything else ehh.
My husband hasn't complained. He actually hasn't said a single word about my weight loss at all, so if he said anything at all- it'd be a pretty big deal. I can't say I've noticed anything flopping around.... But maybe I'm just focused on other things

I've decided to get Sleeved because at 33 years of age, my BMI is 60 and I have degenerative osteoarthritis in both knees as well as high blood pressure. My family has a long history of heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, diabetes and arthritis. My grandmother passed at age 62 in 2001 (a week before Christmas) due to obesity-related complications. I used to be a track and field athlete and a weightlifter (when I was in high school). I've looked into the gastric sleeve surgery and I know this is what I need in order to regain my health so I can live a healthier, longer life.
I live in NY and have Straight Medicaid, which requires 3 months of NUT visits and from what the surgeon told me that I may get sleeved in either September or October of this year. I wasn't told how much I needed to lose, but I heard it was minimum 10% of your body weight. I've tried everything from Slim Fast to Kashi GoLean and taking diet supplements. I'm more than ready for a change in my life. I know what lies ahead for me, and I know my path to wellness won't be easy.

I haven't had surgery yet (talking to my primary on Wednesday to get the ball rolling) but one reason why I've been putting off on asking about it is I'm terrified of loose skin. I'm 42, weigh about 375... my skin isn't going to bounce back like it used to (over 12 years ago I lost almost 150lbs and had no loose skin, I've since regained and aged). Right now I love my big boobs and don't want to lose them but there's no way I can afford implants, like ever. And my husband is 15 years younger than me (rawr!), I'm worried that he'll stop finding me sexy. He swears that's not going to happen but I can't help but worry. His preference has always been big women, and with my starting size I know it's unlikely I'll ever get truly *thin* but I will be thinnER, and floppy everywhere. I get nearly in tears every time I think about it.
How did your partner respond to your flopping skin everywhere? What did you end up doing about it? I'd love to hear from everyone but especially if there's anyone with a starting size near or more than mine. Thanks.

The flopping skin is better than fat. You'll have more energy and from what I hear - better sex! Don't let fear of loose skin concern you!

I have been wanting to listen to this book on Audible.. however, the narrators for the book are awful. It sounds like a robot (for both the female and male voice). It would be nice if the author himself would read the book so that it's more personal and less like we're listening to an automated system from T-Mobile for many hours in the car.

If I were in your situation I'd be a lot more worried about my commitment to making healthy and proper decisions, and about the potential damage I did myself, than about the size of my sleeved stomach.

Wow. 12 days out and I was still on full liquids. I have to echo everyone else about pizza being a crazy thing to try at this stage. Im 13 weeks out and avoid all bread like the plague. If you want to potentially hurt yourself and/or screw yourself out of success, keep eating whatever you want. Otherwise, get with the program and stop messing around. Pizza... really?!

FabFatFish reacted to FrankyG in I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?
Did your doctor's dietary plan allow for eating pizza less than 2 weeks out? I am like 99% sure they didn't, because that is crazy. Most folks on here will tell you that was insane to try to do. Solid foods are usually not allowed until around 4 weeks, and eating something fatty and carby like pizza even before 6 months is VERY VERY bad.
Your stomach is not going to be fully healed for months. You will not be able to feel real hunger pains and especially not be able to tell fullness feelings very well because it is still very traumatized and swollen. Introducing foods you should not be eating that early is dangerous and you could cause damage or get small particles (like seeds if you ate pizza with any spices on it) embedded in the staple line and cause major complications and even surgery to remove the invasive objects.
Do not screw around and try to test your sleeve. You may be lucky and have no issues, but you are taking major risks with your health doing this.
And you're throwing away all the months of work and planning by not sticking to your doctor's plans and sabotaging your ability to retrain yourself to eat good, healthy food from the start. You need to get your head straight and do this the right way.

Common misconception... Obamacare {The Affordable Care Act} is the law that regulates healthcare and the insurance industry, it doesn't matter what plan anyone has with who - they are all under the law. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Obamacare isn't a plan, it's a law... Everyone in this country who has any healthcare plan at all has Obamacare. Do you mean state insurance? Did you purchase a plan through the marketplace? If so, with who? Do you have state (which state?) insurance like Medicaid? There are literally hundreds of different plans through so many different programs/companies that it's not possible to answer your question with out more information...

@@FabFatFish ... thank you for the ASMBS link. It's chock full of information I'd missed finding on ASMBS's site before.
Seriously, folks -- whether you're pre-op or even long-term post-op, if you haven't read all this information you really should. Much of the information there describes the issues everyone grapples with during weight loss and weight maintenance.
    Thanks again.
