I am so super stoked about my surgery tomorrow. I can't wait!! Nervous but the excitement of a healthy life overpowers all my fears! Can't believe I've come so far and am gaining control back over my life. I feel like I'm graduating or something. Just so proud of myself.

Yeah, those old pictures that are shocking! Shocking! SHOCKING!
I've run across a huge cache of pix from the past 15 years recently. And I honestly can't believe I was that huge.
It's not even an "I hate those pictures!" reaction. I just simply can't fathom how big I was and how I managed to survive physically being so much larger than I am.
Boy, we sure did put on blinders (in many ways) to survive those days.

Hugs. It's tough looking back. There are pictures I look back on where I never saw how I really looked. When I put them side by side with new pictures it's heartbreaking, embarrassing, shameful... My own brother, who I hadn't seen since Christmas saw me last weekend and the confusion on his face when I walked in was visible. He said he didn't recognize me. I saw a woman in the store I hadn't seen for a year and she had no idea who I was. It's only been 6 months since my surgery but the change is massive. Oddly, I only see it when I look at pictures. I don't see myself as thinner in the mirror or reflections. I just bought size 10 work pants and seriously had to talk myself into it. They fit fine, but I couldn't wrap my head around buying them ( I use to be a size 22). I'm still not mentally caught up with my weight loss nor am I at goals. I know how you feel.

I just have to share because I'm finally seeing a difference in my body! I'm 3 months post-op and I have lost 74 lbs. I took a picture this weekend and finally could see a big difference. YAY for little victories and a place to share it where others understand completely!

Just had my 6 week check up and I am down 32 pounds. Today I get to go back to unrestricted food other than a few exceptions. It is so worth it. The surgery was not nearly as bad as I feared. The liquids and pureed foods period seems to go on forever but it really doesn't. Feeling very good about the whole experience so far. Good luck to you who are having surgery soon. The anticipation is worse than the reality. And yes the night before and day of surgery I was asking myself, "What the hell are you doing?" Perfectly normal. The worst part will be over soon.

How you doing after surgery? Mine was Wednesday May 4th. I'm doing very well. Sure hope I'm eating enough. I have a question. How's the hair loss? Mine is a short pixie. I swear it's falling out faster. I was taking Biotine prior to surgery. Is it safe to start taking again? See Doc Wednesday top on my list of questions.

Sorry to hear about your un-birthday. To hold back because they want to respect your new lifestyle is one thing, but are you saying they totally ignored you? Someone could have said, "We know your birthday is coming up......what kind of celebration would you like to have?
The you would have had plenty of time to pick our brains for meal suggestions.
If you still want to get your birthday officially out of the way, make a microwave Protein cupcake in a mug and put some lite whip topping on it. All you have to do is take a scoop of Protein powder and mix it with one egg, a pinch of salt, and a tablespoon or two of Water or milk - just enough to make it like cake batter. Pour that into a coffee mug and zap it until it's done. My microwave took two minutes, but others might not take as long.
Happy birthday. Don't get in the dumps over getting older. It's better than the alternative. Hugs from Mis Mac in Chicago.

I'm at 6 months and getting closer and closer to my goal.
Was given an "attaboy" from my surgeon last week and told to up th portion size.
I splurged a couple times over this weekend at work. We'd ordered out for our lunches. Instead of eating only the toppings off the pizza......I had the whole slice....two slices, in fat. Next day's lunch.....instead of just eating the bbq, I also had the bread that accompanied it.....and the hash with some of the carb sides.
I say that to say this.......I am smack dab in the middle of my weight loss phase and I brought bread & carbs back into the mix in small amounts for a three day period. I weighed this morning and was not surprised at all with the horrid sight on the scale. No surprises that the number that looked back at me wasn't to my liking. I rationalized that I needed the glycogen for my weight training sessions this weekend. So much for my bullcrap broscience.
I was a dumbass and there was my sign.
Sometimes in life things get real simple for us.
Such is the case with weight loss.......
    Cause......and effect.
Guess what this old boy is having this week........protein first......protein last......protein all in between. Gonna get a healthy dose of treadmill and elliptical, too. Bamsucka. Fell off the horse, but back on it and gonna ride that beast bareback until it can't take any more......then I'll hop off and drag it across the finish line.
    Carbs......piss on 'em.

Sleeve. This is more typical of the band, though, I believe. I also dump if I eat high sugar or cream based Soups. That's typical of bypass not sleeve.
    My sleeve is schizophrenic.

If I eat too fast or too much, it comes back a little in a slimy, foamy liquid that is quite nasty. I can't swallow it, it must be spit out (insert that's what she said jokes here) and it's in copious amounts (insert that's what he said jokes this time).
For me, it's often a prelude to a productive burp or an all out upchuck.

I am about 8 weeks post-op, and I will say that on the negative side, I never used to have discomfort or nausea after eating, and though it's not severe, I do experience something negative pretty frequently, and wish my sleeve had the capacity to eat healthy portions, not kiddie portions.
However, before I lost 55lb, my joints were bothering me going down stairs, I labored around and breathed heavily after very little exertion. I had some early markers of diabetes. Overall, I feel much better now and look better as well, and I accept the tradeoff as worthwhile.

I really want everyone to feel as good as I do about having the surgery. It was scary at first don't get me wrong... but now I see such a beautiful future where before I didn't see a very good one.... So I am excited to share what I can with anyone who might need it.

I am frustrated with eating slow but by no means am I regretting the surgery....after having a c-section and a hysterectomy the recovery is very much easier than those....I am 10 days post op....do I miss certain foods for sure! But I would seek counselling if you are extremely depressed....and I am also in need of a hobby besides eating! I wish you the best on this journey.....it will get better for you I hope.

Cari, yes I'm taking omeprazole once a day...also taking Sucralfate and Maalox when needed. Thanks for asking. Sometimes it's just nice to talk about it rather then hold everything inside! [emoji4]
