Arctic Zero would be a better choice, probably. Less sugar. A little Protein. ... Actually, a really disappointing amount of protein, since I remember trying one well before surgery, and it just tasted like frozen Protein Shake to me. ☹️

You can have it but as it has already been stated it is something that you should hold off on. I know that sugar was one of my worst things. Halo top is low cal and high Protein but it also contains too much sugar for this phase of your journey. If it isn't on any of the paperwork that your Dr gave you then stay far far away. I know that I stayed away from sugar for quite some time and I think that the results I have had speak for themselves. I do eat cake and pie from time to time, even had halloween candy. But I can tell you that I am in control vs my sugar cravings being in control. Hold off as long as you can, the resetting that happens in your brain and metabolism are completely worth it. Prior to surgery I was not in control, and could not stay away from sugar, if I smelled or saw something I loved like doughnuts I couldn't walk away, now I can say its not worth it and keep walking!

Thanks guys for the clarification! My mom bought me a pint yesterday but I have to understand that now that I’m sleeved, it’s ok to turn down food (old habits die hard).

A very difficult concept for me pre WLS but post WLS it's not only ok it's a necessity if you want to maintain your weight loss AND your new found good health.

*try*, to hold off on all the fun foods for a while, your progress may be affected by it.

    Hi everyone,

I am currently in the Soft food phase of my post op diet (I was sleeved on October 18th). Before surgery, I did enjoy Halo Top Ice Cream. My question is: At what point can I have some Halo Top? (If at all). Would it be considered a “soft food” or should I just wait until I’m on solids?

Can you and should you are separate questions. It would probably go down fine, but whether you want to spend your precious room in your new stomach on halo top is another thing altogether. My nutritionist preferred I go with sugar free popsicles.

I am having bypass on Thursday. My surgeon said it will reduce/eliminate hunger and cravings, but if you read these forums... you'll see that both bypass and sleeve patients still experience some hunger and cravings. From everything I've read and everyone I've talked to, neither seems to be better than the other. It really seems to be luck of the draw and how your own body reacts.
As an aside, the sleeve can make acid reflux worse, while bypass improves it... which is why I went with that choice. Don't know if you suffer from acid reflux, but that's something to consider, too!

What I think is awful....is how people here are continually encouraged to do what doesn't work.
How many hundreds of posts have we read that go like this:
"I lost all this weight by self denial and will power and eating a very restricted diet....and I'm so sad and disgusted with myself that I put half of it back on. HELP!"
And what do these people routinely get told here?
Go back on your diet that was unsustainable...and didn't work. Try harder. Deny more.

    It's crazy. And it's unhealthy to yo-yo.
There is no harm in illustrating a DIFFERENT path supported by science. No one is forcing anyone to do anything.
There are and always will be a variety of options and opinions.

I met with the nutritionist at my surgeon's office and she told me for the first month of my insurance-mandated three month pre-op diet to limit carbs to just the morning and cut out carbonated drinks. Since I'd tried Aktins/Keto before I figured I'd just go with that. I met with her again five weeks later, having lost 13lb and based on my success she told me not to change a thing for month two.
As for my routine: For work days I found the Kirkland (Costco) brand Protein Bars and have one for breakfast, then a hard boiled egg and/or string cheese for a morning snack. lunch is spinach salad with carb free dressing, a chunk of some kind of lean meat (often leftover from the previous night's dinner), and some raw broccoli.
Afternoon snack is a low carb yogurt and/or another string cheese. If I want a snack when I get home I'll have a chunk of cheddar or some Pork rinds. I also bought some Carb-Quik baking mix on Amazon, it's like Bisquick but 95% Fiber so very low net carbs and I'll have one or two biscuits made from that a day with butter to satisfy my bread craving.
dinner is more spinach salad, another chunk of meat/fish or a low-carb recipe like sausage and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos and a vegetable.
Weekends are similar but I'll have eggs and a biscuit for breakfast instead of the Protein Bar and I also bought the 5lb drum of Cookies and Cream Protein Shake mix from costco which I prefer to make with unsweetened almond milk instead of Water. However, twice since I began I felt I ate too much the previous day so I did a full day of nothing but the Protein drinks all day and a smaller dinner.
Very important of course is getting the 64oz of water a day. I found boxes of 8 packets of Hawaiian Punch fruit punch and Wyler's lemonade for $1 each at a local discount store and stocked up big time to ensure I don't get tired of plain water.
I'm also fortunate that my surgeon said I do not need to do a pre-op liquid diet as many surgeons recommend.

my pre-op was supposed to be 4 weeks due to my high BMI, after they added 5 more weeks due to a technical issue. The last 5 weeks I could have a semi-regular diet but had to limit sugar and fat.
I lost a good amount of weight on my 4 first week but when I went to a "regular" diet I was on a stall. But from switching to only liquid and back to food and not gaining weight I think I had good success
I hope it doesn't happen to a lot of people because trust me that was a LONG 9 weeks.

My surgery was 6 months ago today. I am sitting at 228 pounds, which is 8 pounds from my goal. I have not eaten low carb. I have incorporated tons of weight lifting into my exercise routine, and have eaten 85% clean over the past 6 months. I am just BARELY under what is considered obese by medical standards even though I have a 34" waist at 6'3" tall.
My takeaway from all of this is.....Don't base your progress on anyone else's. I am 98 pounds from my high weight (shown on left). I have lost only 61 pounds since surgery. However, you can see a definite difference in how I carry my weight. I am very happy with my progress. I am not at goal, but am no longer actively trying to get there. I am just focusing on my health.
My diet consists of tons of vegetables, Protein Shakes and lean Protein, super grains and fruit 6 days per week with 1 day of indulgence. Whatever I crave, gets eaten that day. I consulted with a bodybuilder friend of mine a few months ago, and he told me that the best way to lean up is to give yourself a day every week or so to calorie and carb load. This helps your body avoid thinking your are in starvation mode. Ever since I adopted that method, I have leaned up and increased my muscle percentage.
Anyway, I do track my meals with MyfitnessPal. I do weigh my food to ensure that I don't overeat. I don't deny myself anything. I just wait for whatever I want that week, and prioritize.
I am glad that mostly everyone is doing well. Just keep fighting for the life you want to have.

I am currently still in the process of trying to get surgery at Kaiser Fremont. The program there is awesome and the people will take good care of you. All of the surgeons there would be great choices for your surgery. All of your appointments would be at Kaiser Fremont and they also have an excellent support group that meets there on various fridays throughout the month. Overall I highly recommend the Kaiser Fremont Bariatric program.

@nandy...yes they weighed me at orientation. At that weight I was given a goal weight that I needed to be at before they scheduled surgery (about 15 pounds for me). It would be ok to start dieting now because they go by your highest Kaiser recorded weight documented in the last year. If you haven't been weighed at Kaiser in the last 12 months, I would recommend to put a pause on the dieting until after orientation.

The episode this week has me giving Whitney the side eye???? for real (and I have yet to miss an episode of her show). While I do enjoy the message of "No BS"..that does not give her a reason to be reckless with her health (eating pizza in the middle of the night after JUST passing out and coming from the ER) because she wants to be fat. Whitney's career is sort of based on her being fat but the message for NO BS would still be the same if she lost weight. It was my understanding that NO BS applies to every body type. Perhaps she needs to change the meaning of her NO BS to NO Bull**** because she needs to stop sending the message to her audience that eating in a unhealthy way and gaining weight is fine because there should be no body shame. Whitney has become comfortable in her newfound celebrity and she uses that as excuse to remain "the fat girl" but if she doesn't watch herself...it could kill her. Good for you. I am glad you are being proactiv. I get so annoyed when people say things like "You are not that big, why are you getting surgery?". In my mind I'm thinking "I have the fat gene and I may not look that big to you now but I know where my weight can go and I want to get ahold of this before I get to 3-400 pounds and cant get out of bed". Ok end of rant lol. Congrats!!! Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

That is so true (finally someone who understands me lol). I tried talking to the Dietician at my program and all she can tell me is to spread the calories throughout the day (6 meals instead of 3 meals) and to focus on Protein (I understand that but protein is not always super satiating like they say imo). Everyone I have encountered at my program who had the surgery basically admits to starving themselves to get the initial weight off (the calorie deficit is too drastic). I wholeheartedly admit that I am an emotional eater and stress is a trigger to overeat for me. *Deep sigh* it really is a mental and physical battle. Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App
