None of this secret stuff would be needed if people knew their place... There are things that should just not be commented on other than good for you or hope all goes well with maybe let me know if you need something thrown in... It's so frustrating that everyone feels they know so much!!!

I had to file paperwork with the principal at my school so I could have the time off and get subs scheduled. I have enough sick days, just had to get the principal to sign off. He did so without question, until I was almost out of the office, the quietly said, "Um... is everything OK?" I just said, "Oh, yes, nothing serious." He looked relieved and said, "OK, good," and he let it go at that. I am 99.9% sure he asked because he is a genuinely nice guy who is concerned about his faculty.

well since you want a more general answer - I feel from reading these posts 'ad nauseam' some people are conflicted about not telling, and seem to attack those who tell because it makes them second guess their own decisions as far as transparency. it makes them *feel* like they are lying. and lets face it - there are *some* people who do not want others to know they had WLS because they truly are ashamed of their choice, or need of the choice. they want to present themselves falsely as being something they are not - and some of those some are here on those threads being every bit as unkind as some of the "tellers" are.
I don't think keeping your medical history to yourself is lying in any way shape or form unless you imply that the dietary changes are all there is to your success. just omitting that part is not lying if you are doing it for privacy reasons. I doubt you do that if privacy is what you are after. I am pretty transparent, but I do not tell everyone all of my business, medical or otherwise and I try to have good sense about when it is appropriate and welcomed.
but seriously, why should anyone even care what someone else, especially someone online, thinks of their choice? Even if I did think you were a little liar - so freaking what? the only thing that matters is if you are content with the choices you are making.
I love the saying when you are 20 you worry about what others think. when you are 40 you don't care what others think. when you are 60 you realize they weren't even thinking of you at all. I think there's a lot of truth to that.

I have been using phentermine on and off since about January. I was originally on Qsymia, at my request, but had to go off of them after one day (really bad side effects). My new doctor was comfortable prescribing the phentermine, and it is effective at controlling appetite. The problem is that you can really only stay on it for 3 week stretches because that's about the time the side effects kick in...but that was enough for me to lose the weight I needed and I have kept it off. Good luck!

Diet pills, just mess up your quality of life... Have you consider herbs or chromium picolinate?

Personally when I've tried diet pills in the past, they made me jittery and overall even more stressed and spazzed out. My insurance considered it one of my "tried and failed" diets though, so that was a plus side I suppose.

That's kind of interesting that they want you to have the DS. My surgeon told me that the DS is hardly ever done now.
My understanding is that the DS requires you to be under for a long enough time that it becomes risky for very obese individuals. They started doing the sleeve to get some initial weight loss in before the second part of the surgery. The sleeve was so effective that it started to replace the DS.
I would guess it's likely you'll do very well with the sleeve and may not need the second surgery.
What is your starting weight if you don't mind sharing? I had my first meeting with surgeon at around 405-410 and DS never came up as an option.

30 minutes on an elliptical is hard... Having worked with trainers in the past they often push you which you want... Yet they need to be mindful of clients level of fitness... Please have a discussion with him about wanting to be pushed balanced with you fitness level... Hope you didn't pay him for the 30 minutes you spent on the elliptical.. I tell the trainer our session don't need to include cardio, don't need a pay a babysitter to watch me do cardio.. I want them to help me with free weights etc...

I think pre op/ post op there's a lot going in the mind... I can relate to be guarded with whom you share it... It's normal to have a wide variety of feelings and even second guessing, we don't need outside influences adding fuel to that fire... I feel you can say your having surgery for female issues, very few want to discuss that any further lol... Later down the road when your success starts to show you can give more info... For me, my logical mind knows this is going to result in weight loss as it has for everyone else but having been obese for so long and tried so many think I have a slight hint of self doubt... I would not want to put it on blast until I see it working... I just think people's mouth can be the worst weapon and often times better not to hear them...

While I agree it's against the law for her to ask you as the boss, sounds like you two have a friendly rapport as you stated you wanted to tell her but didn't do to your other drama... I feel she was asking as more of your friend and out of concern. Us women always want to know the 411 we can't help it.

    * Just making it to surgery. Was nursing a back injury that was driving me nuts. Lost 55lbs during the pre-op months. Good momentum going into the surgery.
    * three weeks post op......and having low blood pressure for the first time ever. lol
    * 8-9 weeks post op........started grilling again. Felt great to be able to enjoy it.
    * Hopping on an airplane 5 months post-op and getting away to the time of my life for a week. It was a life-changing trip. Came home.....then went 3 weeks later on a 7 day cruise with my wife. Had fun on the cruise and went around shirtless most of the days. Pools & hot tubs for 7 days.....and being shocked at how much people really do eat on these cruises.
    * Going into my favorite restaurant for the first time in a while......and having to stop the waiter from bringing me a huge ice cold draft beer. He asked if I was feeling okay. Funny times.
    * Sitting in any booth in any restaurant........and being able to order from any menu and find stuff that fits my goals.
    * Wearing blue jeans for the first time in 25 years. Not the Levi's that I want to wear, though.....I'm not ready to have my waist size printed on the outside patch of my jeans. Soon, though.....button fly 501's will be worn all the time.
    * I have my 1 year appointment scheduled in October. I am really looking forward to this milestone appointment.

This is a great story. I just argue that not everyone is there to hook up, at least as their goal. At my age most have been married. We are used to having sex as part of relationship. It's not like when we were in our teens and twenties. And add to that many miss the physical intimacy they had when they were married. So keep that in mind and give others some grace. I am not against safe indiscriminate romps, but I recognize that this is not without risks and not for everyone. Sex is NOT intimacy. But for me it is an important element. So I do think it is part of the matrix before committing to someone. It would stink to find out on your wedding night your partners total package doesn't work for you. This does not mean I am advocating sex on the first date. Far from it, I am just trying to give any lurkers some perspective.

An update, now that I've journeyed into match dot com land.
There were 2313 possible matches within 50 miles of me. I have now hidden the profiles of exactly 2000 of them. A lot of them were looking for "slender and athletic women only". Why match would think that was a good "mutual match" for me, I'll never know.
Others were obviously 20 years older than they claim to be, by their pictures. Seriously, if you say you're 50 and you look 70 or 80, well, just no. Call me shallow if you will.
Others were chronically unemployed or underemployed. I've dealt with that before in a relationship, and I can't do it again. Just. Can't.
The scammers contact me there as well, although the stats aren't as interesting (yet) as okcupid. I've had only one "special forces" guy who can't tell me where he is. The rest were just unimaginative in their scam.
I'm not disheartened. Maybe just cranky. Or constipated. COFFEE!

Oh yeah...this was nothing and I'm already moving on. What hurts are the ones you connect with and it doesn't work out. This guy was a couple of nice conversations and no further investment. More important is what I got out of it...I know I don't feel obligated in any way to disclose my weight loss surgery. That's what really matters.
