I also work shift work (RN) and I take my synthroid at night before I go to bed. Always have. No problems with my levels.

I'm 9 weeks post op and just started drinking instant coffee. I use 1 teaspoon to 16 ounces of Water, use sugar free creamer and stevia. That first cup yesterday tasted so good even though it was weak. I am tolerating it well and maybe next week I will increase the amount of instant coffee.

She saw the doctor and the surgeon feels the pain is coming from her stitches. Nothing major and it should go away on its own

It could be the surgical gas... Help her walk at home I know when I got back home I used to walk in the morning for a bit so all the gas can get out!! Best of luck and hope she feel better soon! Because it will get better!

My surgeon did not want me to go off my coffee, pre and post op. He was concerned re caffeine withdrawals.
So, I had coffee with milk in the hospital.
At home I drink brewed coffee with milk.
Black coffee would be too acidic for me.
Adding milk to it makes it less acidic, and adds to my Protein allowance.
Even though milk is also a carbohydrate, ..... go figure .... perhaps due to its sugar content.
    So far, no problems.
I am 24 days post op
Also, coffee can be dehydrating, so I am mindful of my Water intake.

The surgeons office did call back and made some medication recommendations that have helped. I also got her a heating pad. The pain seems to be better controlled. They are going to check in on her again tomorrow and she sees them Friday. Thanks for your input.

If anyone reads this they'll probably wonder at the totally out of the blue update, but I found a couple of sachets of Kenco Smooth (my usual brand) in my suitcase, tucked way underneath some clothes I haven't worn yet and I totally did a happy dance. I made a cup with half a sachet yesterday and it hasn't upset my stomach at all :-D Yay. Maybe I just needed what my stomach was used to? In that case, America, why don't you have Costa coffee?!

    Very welcome!
I had to have requested Panadeine Forte crushed in the hospital.
I had headaches, and the Endo (oxycodone?) wasn't helping my headaches.
I tried regular Multi vit at home later, as my chewable BN Multi hasn't arrived by then.
I don't recommend this. Even crushed it did not really agree with me, and tasted horrible!
Any tablet that is large and non-chewable is no good post op.
Hence B12 spray and chewable Multivitamin are the recommended ways of taking them.
    Capsules are OK.
Thank goodness that my thyroid med is tiny and "slippery".
Good luck with your surgeries, kmorri

Have you gotten meds for your hypothyroidism? Once you get the right dose, it will help. I have had to adjust my Synthroid dose a couple of times since surgery trying to get back to the perfect balance but it hasn't slowed down my weight loss (thank goodness).

    kmorri,
I take the full tablet. It is so small and goes down easily with Fluid. Did so in the hospital and now home post op.
However, yes, check it out with your surgeon.
    Good luck!

You might want to ask your surgeon for an anti-nausea prescription if this lasts more than a couple of days. Zofran is one that is prescribed to lots of people post-op.

OzRoo reacted to Bufflehead in I'm having cravings and snacking..HELP
Yes, I have been there! Here is what has helped me get back on track:
Six day carb detox. For the entire six days, I only eat unprocessed meat (no bacon, sausage, lunch/deli meat, jerky), eggs, green veggies, and healthy fats (olive oil, coconut oil, grass fed butter): days 1 & 2, I let myself eat as much as I want, whenever I want, and do not record on MyFitnessPal. Days 3 & 4, eat as much as I want but record on MyFitnessPal. Days 5 & 6, set calorie maximum at 1,000 Protein goal at 100 grams, weigh all my portions and record on MyFitnessPal. Stay within my goal ranges. After that, keep logging and gradually integrate in fruit, legumes, nuts, and dairy. No grains, starchy veggies, or sweets at all. They trigger cravings for me. Plan my eating every day. When I will eat and what I will have. When cravings strike, look at my food plan and remind myself of when I get to eat next. Get all "bad" food out of the house. I look at the times and places that give me trouble. I was struggling to resist buying candy and sweet breads (pumpkin bread) at our snack shop at work, and struggling to avoid the vending machines there. So I stopped taking money and credit and debit cards to work with me. I can't buy something if I have no way to pay for it.

Heidikat72 - seriously STOP comparing yourself to others. See how much progress you can make in 12 weeks and then keep it up
You'll drive yourself nuts if you keep comparing yourself to everyone else.
Prior to 4/1/2015 I couldn't run, walk, go upstairs, etc. without being red in the face, flush and sweaty. Now I'm walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and I feel great!

I had a dentist appointment today and then was going to the gym to sign up and work out and I needed to get some food in me. I went to a popular restaurant next to the dentist that has a salad/hot food/ Chinese food/ sushi by the pound type of place. I typically avoid this type of food but I remembered they always have steamed fish and chicken. (Probably some msg thrown in haha).
To measure my steamed fish, they have the 1 ounce salad dressing cups so I just put some fish in it multiple times and tossed in a little chicken piece. I added some steamed eggplant because they charge more for all meat. Very tasty.
The grand total was $2.25. Hahaha. Before when I went there after the dentist it would be like 10.00 since it is 8.00 a pound. Man have times changed.

I will call in the office in the morning. The swelling has gone down except large patch above belly button. It's still sensitive, a pulling pain. Oddly if I hold it tight I seem to be fine to walk. I have had pretty bad split abs since my first pregnancy, so I am wondering if it has something to do with that. Oh well,I will see them tomorrow, hopefully it's nothing.

No actual abdominal swelling BUT I, too have a couple incision areas that are hard, tight and very painful one week post op. Nurse said that's normal. Both are the two larger incisions. Rolling over in bed is a nightmare, and since I'm a side sleeper, I've begun putting a pillow on the side of my belly like I did when I was pregnant lol. It helps. One thing I notice is if I sit for any length of time and stand it really hurts. Walking is actually easier and I stop when I begin to feel it pull and burn- usually by the one mile mark.
Hoping it stops soon. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if yours dissipates!

    What did your dr say?
Today I had lots of swelling, like the size and shape of a large bagel around largest incision. It hard, tight and makes walking really uncomfortable. I made sure really worked my fluids today and walked for several small walks, seems to just gotten tighter. Heading to bed early, it's such a pulling sensation it's hard to stand up straight.
I will call dr if it gets worse or doesn't start clearing up in the next day or two, but just wondered if it's common.

Are you checking your blood pressure? If this dizziness and lightheadedness happens mostly when you stand up or sit up, it could be orthostatic hypotension, which is something that a lot of people deal with in the first few months after weight loss surgery.
