KristenLe reacted to A New KK in Surprise period
I thought I was done with having periods but much to my dismay and chagrin I got mine this week. Mind you my period had all but stopped in mid 2014 but had 1 period in March 2015 so I thought that was it. Anyone else experience this post op? I got laid off in October (hope to be working again this month) but since my surgery on 11/19 everyone tells me how much younger I look. Even my hair has started to get fuller and my coloring has improved. Maybe the surgery was a mini fountain of your or just not having the day to day pressure of work has helped. However, until I hit Powerball this week I have to go back to work or I'll end up living under I- 95 in a box. LOL

That's a good one! I avoid kayaks! I'd also like to be able to ride on the jetski with my boyfriend and not feel like I'm going to take us down. :-). Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

I was warned about this being a possible side effect on my 1st NUT appointment. With only being 3 weeks post-op - I wouldn't be eating anything like that anyway. Your body is telling you that you shouldn't be eating sugar!

KristenLe reacted to gingeryank in What are you looking forward to after WLS and the weight comes off?
Leaving my house. My situation is complicated by a chronic illness, but even without the progressive disease (AS), I have felt so self-conscious.
When I was working (I'm on sick leave now), I hated getting "elevator eyes" from my colleagues--you know, the quick, but not-so-subtle looks up and down that make you want to sink into the floor.
I went to get a mammogram and was nearly turned away because the employee was certain I was pregnant.
I used to hide--even from my husband--because I was so embarrassed. Baggy clothes, pillow in front of my belly when I sat on the sofa, the whole bit.
Thank goodness for the therapy I got before the surgery. I was able to go into it with more confidence and more self-respect. And it keeps getting better. I'm already going more places with my son. I'm even looking forward to going back to work. I've been on sick leave for my AS since January, so I've really been a hermit.
Most importantly, I'm looking forward to living a longer, happier life (I hope!).

Yes, we are all different. And your journey certainly won't be exactly like mine. But I do know a thing or two about WLS and how the patterns of weight loss work, and if you think you're just going to drop 5 pounds a week until you hit goal, you're in for a rude awakening.
My advice to you is stop acting so high and mighty and listen and learn from the people that know at least a little of what they are talking about so you have an easier time of it. You've got some good advice in this thread. Use it. We want to see people be successful, and unrealistic expectations and weight loss comparisons usually ends in tears (literally) and tends to demotivate people. I know, because I've been there.

Like Kindle said...Don't compare yourself to others. Follow the plan, (don't lie to yourself), and you'll lose weight. I have lost 75 lbs, in 3 months (mostly water/fluid), but weight loss nonetheless. On the liquid pre op, I've had one week of what's called a "stall". 800 cal/day, and no weight loss one of the week's. That is tough to swallow, but you have to stay focused. The next 2 weeks, I lost 17 lbs. Also...Weigh in once/wk...twice at the most. Don't obsess over the scale. Also...WATER..WATER..WATER...drink your Water. It's a challenge for me, but I get it done. Surgery on 4/18. My goal is another 175...I'll do it too. Wish me luck...and Good Luck to everyone on their journey.

Someone recommended this book. I downloaded it to my Kindle and have just started but I was told it was excellent. In reading alot of posts in this forum - it seems this feeling happens to everyone for a period of time. Reach out to friends or family for support and talk to a counselor if you feel like you're not doing better. You are at great age to start fresh - I wish I did something when I was younger. Stay strong & positive! You got this!

I'm at the second highest weight 322 and I'm 46 years old
I have hypertension, type 2 diabetic, hypothyroidism, joint pain, back, hip, ankles. I can not do this myself and I don't want to be dead or riding around in a hover round. I have thought about surgery for a couple years but I have never taken the first steps. I have now and I am ready for this life changing surgery.

My biggest downfall from previous WLS was not setting specific focus time to eat and chewing as well as I should.
I had vertical banding and restriction size made it that if I ate without thinking about it (At desk, in front of TV or doing something else) I would over eat and by the time I knew it, I was over full and sick. This I am working on doing better now since my RNY is in 5 weeks.
