  1. I got most of my calories in the first week from diluted fruit juice and skim milk. But I was still only averaging around 200 calories per day until I was able to add thicker/pureed soups.
  2. I suffered what I called hunger pains very badly in my second week after surgery. I began to suspect it was more acid than hunger when - while I couldn't feel heartburn - I began to taste a bit of acid in the back of my throat. The doctor said I could take tums. The next time I felt those "hunger pains" I took a tums and they almost instantly went away. Give that a try and see if it helps any.
  3. I think that if your plan allows honey and you tolerate it well, then you can put it in your tea. Mine only allows sugar substitutes, so I wouldn't use honey... but then, I don't drink tea anyway! Best of luck to you in this journey we're all sharing!
  4. It's really going to depend on your insurance company and their requirements. What does your insurance require for bariatric surgery?
  5. Yes. It only has 1g of sugar, which is basically nothing. (my NUT approves anything less than 10g).
  6. Syntrax nectar Protein shake in the Cookies n Cream flavor mixed with Fairlife milk is awesome. And GENEPRO added to broth is also amazing (and can yield 30g of protein in only 4 oz of broth)
  7. My favorite right now is to add cold brew concentrate to my Protein shake.
  8. I was already sedated from the tap block, but i do remember they talked to me in the OR before knocking me completely out.
  9. Imitation crab is made out of white fish, which is allowed on this stage. ETA: Real crab is more dense than white fish. It's the same reason I can't have salmon or mahi mahi until stage 2 of soft foods.
  10. I can't have real crab until July 13th - soft foods is broken into 2 stages for me. Stage 1 is two weeks of dark meat chicken and white fish (imitation crab counts here), and then Stage 2 is 6 weeks of all chicken, ground meat, shrimp, salmon, etc.
  11. It's likely acid. My PPI isn't doing enough, so last night I took a Tums (doc approved) and that hungry feeling went right away.
  12. Toast? Wow! Yeah everyone's is so different Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yeah. Only a quarter piece, but toast! No regular bread though. Regular bread is too soft and doughy - that's why it has to be toasted.
  13. Mine is - Weeks 1 & 2 Post-op: Modified Full Liquids (Duke does not allow sugar free Jello on this stage) Weeks 3 & 4 Post-op: Stage 1 Soft Foods Dark meat chicken (no white meat until stage 2), thinly sliced deli meat, white fish, imitation crab, fat free cheese, Beans, tuna, scrambled or poached eggs, greek yogurt. Soft cooked vegetables, unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, mashed sweet or white potato, oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits. Weeks 5 – 10 Post-op: Stage 2 Soft Foods All chicken (yippee), ground beef or turkey, hard boiled eggs, small shrimp, heartier fish like salmon, crab. TOAST. Fresh fruit without the peel.
  14. I was cleared for 8 oz of caffeine per day at my 2 week follow up. But I have to be sure to get all of my fluid in if I drink it.
  15. Campbell's Chicken and Stars with the chunks strained out of it.
  16. Mashed potatoes with Genepro in it has helped me get my calories a few days.
  17. When they told me my share, I asked if I could do a payment plan. They assured me that once I got the bill I could call and set it up. If I were you, I'd go ahead and call them and ask.
  18. Walk! And then walk some more!
  19. I'm in my third week, and I definitely do feel physical hunger. Which is good - it reminds me to eat something!
  20. If you're anything like me, that egg was the best egg in the history of all the eggs.
  21. Flintstones Complete has iron, and my doctor and nutritionist both recommended them. They have more zinc and iron than all of the bariatric brands I checked.
  22. I was able to sleep on my side pretty early - day 3/4. But I couldn't sleep on my stomach until close the end of week 2. I did find that propping pillows under my stomach helped when I started sleeping on my side - that way I was on my side, but the pillows kept the belly from pulling down so much.
  23. Keep calling. Worst case scenario: if you're not comfortable with this doctor, you find a new one.
  24. I'm in the market for an abdominal binder. When I walk, my belly jiggles which causes some discomfort and soreness. If I get a binder, I'll be able to walk more and feel better doing it. So what do you guys use?
  25. You can't stretch your sleeve. Or if you can, it's very VERY difficult. The surgery removed all of the stretchy part and left muscle.
