I totally understand your concern. I'd be lying if I didn't say I had the same thoughts you're thinking. I do feel that some initially look older but when their skin firms and their hair thickens back up they look younger again.
I was 224, 5' 6" and my goal was 140....when I hit 150 I felt like that was thin enough. At first I think I did look old ....I don't know if I'm just getting used to it or if i learned to wear my hair differently, makeup differently, and my skin has firmed up some.
    Good question/observation.
I'm certainly happy with my choice.

As I said in one of my post, " I don't want any naysayers in my posse". Another piece of the positive energy puzzle is to believe. You have to believe you can do it. Really believe. See yourself succeeding. About 5 months, ago before I made this my decision, I woke from a dream where I saw myself standing in the doorway of my garage to patio entrance. I saw myself hosting a family party. It,was like I was watching myself. I was wearing a pair of yellow Capris with a yellow and white tank top and gold sandals. I was so thin!! I don't even own anything yellow!! Lol. But I look at her (me) now all the time in my mind. Visualize what you wish to become. Believe that you will achieve your goal. And most importantly...pray...ask God to guide and bless you in your journey and then reach for the brass ring. Hold on tight and don't let go. Anything is possible....Believe.!!!!

My husband and I are both morbidly obese. I want to change, he doesn't. I will be getting the surgery and dropping pounds, and he'll stay the same. Maybe one day, with my positive example, he'll come around.

Pup reacted to 2ndSpring in Going out to eat tonight! Any ideas so I don't look foolish?
My new favorite part about eating out is taking home the leftovers and not having to cook for the next 2-3 meals.
Order whatever Protein looks yummy (and soft), eat your 3 bites and then take home the rest!! Since you are going to the movies afterwards, bring a small cooler with you for the car.
The server will probably be concerned that you didn't like the meal, just reassure them that the meal was delicious and you are not that hungry tonight and they'll be happy.

I'm 41 and 1 yr post op. I'm 5'2" and was 242 when I started my 2 week preop diet, 225 day of surgery. I met my personal goal of 145 around the 9 or 10 month mark. While I'm still technically overweight, all my health issues have resolved and I like the way I look/feel in clothes. I have very minimal sagging skin on my thighs and arms (batwings). I thankfully do not have wrinkles or sunken in cheeks. I actually look way younger post op. When I was researching preop, it seemed like those who looked the healthiest post op either ran or cycled. I kept that in mind and started walking the indoor track at 2 weeks out, doing combo walk/jog at 4 weeks and spin class at 6 weeks. I also do resistance occasionally. On the subject of hair, I'm mixed (half black half white) and have thick, curly hair. I went natural and stopped relaxing several years ago. I did have some thinning (mostly my edges) months 3-7, but it isn't noticeable to anyone except me and my stylist. Now that it's growing again, like @@JamieLogical mentioned, you can see the fine new growth in my edges so I have to use edge control when I pull it back. The photo I'm attaching is the day I started my preop diet and on my 1 yr surgiversary last week. And the other is just a face shot, so you can see my edges.

You'll do great. I understand the panic attacks. I have a 2 week pre-op diet I started last Thursday. 12 more days to go for me. Let us know how you're doing. If you see me panicking on Wednesday the 8th please remind me what I said. Lol

I was incredibly freaked out in the days leading up to my surgery. And the day of the surgery, I was a wreck. (My surgeon showing up 3 hours late for work, unapologetically, didn't help anything, but I digress...)
The entire thing was SO much easier than I thought it would be. Yes, the first few days post-op sucked, but I rebounded quickly. The surgery itself was super easy. Once it was over, I wondered why I let myself get freaked out so much.
It will be just fine. Try to relax and focus on what you need to do to prepare for the surgery and a successful post-op life.
    Good luck!

My goal weight was 165, which is actually 10 pounds "overweight" by the BMI charts. The lowest I got was 153, but that was definitely too thin for me. 165 is my happy space.
To the OP, here are some pics for you. My highest weight was 270, my weight in the "after" photos was around goal of 165. I am 5'6" tall.

Hello everyone, Warning beware of jealous people in your life. So my now ex but also my daughters father has as I feel always tried to sabotage me. I gained close to 100 pounds in the last 6 years since I've been with him had a baby got super comfortable and let myself go. Well since my surgery and before he was never with my lifestyle change he would bring fast food and candy into the house, he didn't work out with me on a regular basis (and mind u he is athletic and a boxer) there was no genuine encouragement nor support. He was and is a serial cheater. He told a girl he cheated on me with about me getting the surgery before i even had it and just recently told another woman i believed to be a friend but he was sleeping with her too that I had the surgery and now I think i'm better than ppl and they laughed about how I'm still big and my body gone be a mess (I seen the messages) the disrespect is at an all time high. Bottom line is I am better than what they obviously thought of me. This change has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, I'm happy about life again, I see the changes in me mentally, spiritually, and physically. I'm looking forward to the future and learning not to settle or accept anything I'm discovering my worth and now I'm glad I can close that chapter in my life and looking forward to my journey and finding someone new that sees the Goddess in me

    MO – St. Louis
I am interested in being considered as the Group Leader for the St. Louis MO area. I have known since my surgery in July 2013 that I wanted to be in a more interactive role concerning WLS patients. This surgery has changed my life and I want to be able to help change the lives of people like me. I believe that there is a need for face-to-face meetings in making sure the right information is given and issues discussed.
I would be available after 6pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends.
    Thank you for your consideration.
