Work
I filled out FMLA paperwork to allow for up to 4 weeks continuous leave. I did not have any problems so I ended up taking one week off and then working 6 hour days for the next 3 weeks.

Why do people bash weight loss surgery?
Did it reverse your diabetes.? Sent from my SM-T550 using the BariatricPal App I stopped Metformin a few days before surgery. my blood sugars have been completely normal. I am expecting my bloodwork tomorrow to show a normal A1c. so, yes. unless I go back to the old way of eating.

Ignorance, Senility, or NSV?
can I just say if I was one of the ones you told, and for whatever medical reason you had to drop out, I would feel bad for you but I would not feel like you were a failure! I have friends who run marathons, who have NEVER been overweight and at times for one reason or another (injury, other issues) they have had to drop out of this or that race. I have always commiserated with them, but never thought less of them in any way at all. YOU listen to your body missy, and do what is right, even if it does come to dropping out if it is too soon.

Doc said weight loss plan was a waste of time. I need encouraged.
it's not a race, dear. it's a marathon. This is a forever for the rest of your life change. you would probably think I am loosing slowly. WHO CARES. I am loosing. and in fact, I think people who loose more slowly making real, sustainable changes are far more likely to KEEP the weight off.Agreed. But as I stated in my previous reply, I imagine her doc was likely encouraging her to push herself in her honeymoon period. You don't get that time back. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App She's still pre-op. I could only walk about 20 minutes, slowly during pre-op. now I am walking 3 times that, and every day as opposed to a few times a week. She's not even at the honeymoon phase yet. and still, if a person doesn't find a particular form of exercise to be enjoyable they will not continue to do it. I just want people to move. find what you love, and do it. because if you do that you will still be doing so in 10 years. There is no expiration date on the sleeve.

Are Your Family Members Overweight and Which of Them Supported You?
I am so glad you had him. I know the feeling. When my twins died, if I hadn't had my oldest Joel (who was little and needed to be taken care of) I think I would have just wanted to go in my bed and stay there until I died. <3

Are Your Family Members Overweight and Which of Them Supported You?
Parents both have struggled with weight. Mom lost 150# about 20 years ago, no surgery. she has been an AMAZING role model for loving yourself and accepting the stages in life. has gained back maybe 30#? due to a problem with her heel limiting her walking somewhat. I consider her to be a wild success. My Dad is overweight but not obese. He looks EXACTLY like Santa Claus, sparkling blue eyes and white beard. 1 of 2 biological sisters is heavy, has PCOS. Adopted sister (adopted as an adult, baby sister's best friend who lost her natural family) struggles with morbid obesity. My husband and all 7 of my children are and always have been normal weight. My husband is the biological father of the two youngest. Everyone has been very supportive. my parents were afraid of me having the surgery as was middle sister (she is a nurse and so has dealt with and seen things go wrong) but once I was safely on the other side of it they are very happy to see me regain my health. My father's brother had the sleeve 2 years ago, and everyone regards it as literally saving his life. Aunts, Uncles, cousins are supportive because they just don't want to see me decline and die early. I have a close immediate family though, and even if they disagreed with me they would support my choices and love me. I am very blessed. I would love for the two sisters who would qualify to have the surgery - but we have not discussed that. perhaps if they see my success. time will tell.

Self-Compassion and Change
good article! I have a friend who really struggles with this. I am forever telling her - do not give yourself advice that you would never give to me (your friend). with grace comes freedom. with freedom comes safety to make the changes. You know the saying, be kind because everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about? well, I think we don't always know what our own battles are - they are slowly revealed to us. so be kind to yourself.

Need a little advise and motivation please
I am in desperate need of a good massage. Guess I need to hit another milestone, eh?

Best way to tighten belly?
for fat reduction? nothing except loosing weight overall. and, I think there is some research out there on foods that tend to add to belly fat, but I am pretty sure that the bariatric food plan already avoids them. but to tighten and tone, I'd say swimming laps, yoga and pilates. very effective.

Tooth Extractions week before Surgery
my first thought is that it would be better before surgery than after when you have a wound in your stomach, but you certainly need to make your bariatric team and dental team aware of both procedures and see what they say. the possible ick released from the teeth could be serious, and we want you to come through surgery with flying colors! let us know!

I think I should have learned something
I am glad you enjoyed. I don't think I will *ever* get over having to move away from my Michigan. I go back as often as I can. I miss my beaches! I am from the Traverse City area, but have spent plenty of time in Lansing and Ann Arbor.

NSV shout outs
and that 2 XL doesn't look like it is going to fit for long. how exciting. I can remember having to pre-stretch clothing especially when new. I finally had to break down and buy some new pants last week as I was looking like a hobo walking in the neighborhood. I was wearing XL petite, so I bought some L petite and when they came I thought - there is no way these are going to fit. what am I supposed to do it the XL are way too big, and the L are too small? and my husband laughed (he likes to live dangerously) and told me I might be surprised and I should just try them on. I still thought he just wanted to see me shimmy into tight pants, but I tried them on and to my GREAT surprise they fit perfectly. It's a great feeling! now. next on the agenda I have to replace some work pants because I have to tuck in my shirts now to keep them from falling off.

Is there a way to break a stall
for me also - when I had a stall I tracked my food on the same program where I track my workouts and saw that I needed to add a snack - calories were a good bit too low. I find my calorie deficit for the day needs to be right around 800 or else I stop loosing.

Need RNY but...
I can't speak to a lot of your issues except to say I have taken a cinnamon supplement for over 10 years to try to stave off metabolic syndrome. I found out when I broke my leg badly (both bones above the ankle, spiral break) that the cinnamon did more to help control the pain than the prescription pain medication. I also find that dried cherries, cherry juice or a cherry pill can be very effective for this kind of pain. my mother uses dried cherries to treat arthritis.

Experienced Sleevers - Tolerances/Intolerances
so far nothing. at first when cleared for all foods I couldn't handle steak or venison, but now at 3 months tolerate them without a problem.

How soon after surgery did you go out?
my sister came for a visit at about one month out so we went out.
