They should be coming to get me for my swallow test soon. Once the results are read I am supposed to be going home. Dr has already been by around 7:30. I honestly feel pretty close to normal. Pain meds are working; only really hurts when I'm coughing or during standing up. The broth they gave me this morning tastes like mushrooms. I like mushrooms but the jury is still out on the broth.

Update: I had my surgery yesterday at 12 noon. Went very well. In my room by 2. I haven't needed anymore pain meds after the initial the pumped me with during surgery. Never used my PCA. I have been up and walking every 2 hrs. No gas pains yet. Started taking Zofran for nausea about 8 hrs ago. No other discomfort. Feeling very blessed right now.

I made it through surgery and all is good now......when they first brought me to my room from recovery they didnt have my pain pump ready and no one seemed to know who my nurse was.....I can honestly say it was the worse pain I've ever experienced!!!....Wade (my hubby) got them in shape pretty fast but he had to talk to them like they were inmates!.(he's a corrections officer in a prison).lol.....they are all doing a really job now!....I've already been up and made 3 laps around the ward....so much much better now!....forgive any misspellings I'm very drugged.....Dilloten (sp).....is my BFF right now!!!

Had my 2nd Pre Op appointment. Had blood taken, stood in front of an x ray thing and swallowed sweet chalky Water. Was told I lost 21 pounds since just following the Nut. I have no problen loosing the weight it is keeping it off is the problem. I had to fight every urge not to stop at Taco Bell to "celebrate". Took everything I had to drive past. Even had my turn signal on and changed my mind at the last second.
I have lost 21 pounds and not many people noticed. Lol..that is ok. I have alot NSV's- pants fit better..I am on the last hole in the belt, wedding ring comes off easily now...

As a teacher I work with children of different ages, kids don't fear they way we do as adults. I think you could simply say mommy is going to the hospital to have something done with her tummy. She may be there a day or two and she will be feeling better when she gets back. Until then you'll be with dad or grandma or whoever will look after him. If you keep his routine as normal as possible he will be less scared.
You may want to mention to the teacher, you will be in the hospital so she can keep watch on him. Sometimes when they are worried their behavior change. Since he's 8 he'll probably be cool as a cucumber.

Good luck to all my May 16th buddies today!!! I'll be leaving for the hospital a little later. I have to check in at 8:30 AM and scheduled for surgery at 11:30. I told my son everything he's 12 and autistic. I am very active in his class so his teacher and aide would know something was up.
I showed him my little
Booklet the surgeon gave me and explained it to him.
I even told his teacher up front because he will be missing day of surgery and I'm sure he'd tell them he was at the hospital.
Maybe just not say anything to your son. You know how kids are always innocently honest especially if you do t want people to know

I was sleeved on 3/23 of this year. I too told my 10 year old son. He is not overweight yet, but I use this as an opportunity to spend time being active together. Plus....even if I think to put something bad in my mouth(carbs or sugar) he's sure to tell me "you aren't suppose to eat that". I like how I have my own little voice of reason when my self control try's to slip.

I'm two months out, and my 11 yr old daughter is the same way. She was terrified for me at first, but once she saw I was okay, she was completely on board. So much so that she's taken it upon herself to start reading food labels, to learn more about healthy eating.

Every dietitian is different. I didn't have to do a diet, it was just keeping a food journal with how many calories, Proteins, Water and exercise a day.
