I am 9 weeks post op and I promise it gets better! At first it hurt to drink Water and I could track exactly where that water was in my esophagus all the way down to my stomach. Now, I am able to eat out at restaurants(not much) but I am not scared I'm going to overdue it and throw up. You will get to a point where it is not the topic of discussion all the time. Hang in there!!

Had my first mixed drink at about 4 months out. Did perfectly fine, and a few at a time haven't been a problem for me. Word of warning...while I hardly follow the 30 mins before and 30 mins after principle with Water, you absolutely must do this with alcohol! Horrid problems will result with food and alcohol in the sleeve at the same time. I get dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out.
Carbonation has generally been difficult, as it can cause stretching and horrible gas, so I try to avoid beer or champagne except at special events. Your doctor will probably be pretty discouraging about consuming any alcohol, so this is where you will want to use particularly proactive trial and error to see what works for you and what doesn't, both on the scale and off.

I am about 2 1/2 months out and have had a couple of drinks here and there. Usually Vodka (I didn't like anything sweet). I still log it on my fitness pal. I have not experienced any decrease in weight loss. I am conscious of the calories associated and if I felt like my weight loss was suffering as a result I would stop immediately.

I'm just over 3 weeks out from my VSG. I lost 16 the first week and then nothing. I was getting frustrated until I looked at the before pics I took and current pics. There is a visible difference! I'm losing inches first. My winter coat (which I thought I could put away by now but it's still friggin' cold on Long Island) fits better and my shoes are looser. I didn't realize how much Fluid I was retaining until it was gone! So hang in there and take pics like others suggested. I know I made the right decision - just waiting for the scale to catch up!! (Pre-op diet weight: 286 - Surgery date: 276 - Current: 260)

I am a little disappointed with my numbers but I feel great.

Madeline121- Don't stress I too have only lost 24 lbs. and was sleeved Feb 16th.many factors go into that such as your starting weight and body composition. Just remember slower weight loss means less saggy skin

When I was in the pre surgery faze I found peoples pics very helpful and inspiring. Not trying to brag just wanted to help others who have worries! Q 

I too recommend Premier Protein shakes. Lots of Protein and 11oz of Fluid that I am allowed to count towards my water/fluid goal. I drink a lot of pink lemonade crystal light as well. For me, I take 3 Water bottles(48oz) with me to work and it helps me visually see where I'm at throughout the day. Good luck.

Biggest and best decision you guys. Hard mentally and physically for a while. Im 6 months out and finally feeling normal
Thank you for the encouragement. I had my surgery yesterday @10am. Everything is going great. I am sore around the incision sites. After my swallow study later today, I should be able to start the Clear liquids again.
