Discouraged and Disappointed
I haven't started a fast weight loss diet yet? But I really don't eat right. Hopefully the Vitamins will solve the problems. I pray that I will be able to have the surgery. This is my last hope of getting rid of my sleep apnea. I have no energy to walk too far so I cannot exercise very long so I won't lose too much weight at this point anyway. Thanks for replying. Cheryl

Discouraged and Disappointed
I have been going to my appointments for my six month diet with doctor for my insurance purposes. I found out in the last few days that my Iron is low, prescription for iron pills 350 2x a day. B12 is low taking a pill under my tongue 1x a day. My Vitamin D was already low and been taking 50,000 units a week for the last 6 weeks. I am concerned about what is causing this and is this going to keep me from having the surgery? I also have sjogrens disease which is an immune disease and I take plaquenel, could this be what is causing my vitamin dificiencies and will this keep me from having the lapband? Cheryl:crying:

Very Sad
Thanks for your quick response. I forgot to say I also have sjogrens syndrome which is an immune disease that affects the glands I have already had my left parotid gland removed in Nov 07. I am taking plaquenel. I wonder if this will have any problems with the surgery and if maybe the plaquenel has anything to do with my Vitamin dificiencies. Cheryl

Please let me know what they tell you. Do you have Humana through the state?

Angie, I have to have six months of supervised dieting with my primary doctor. They told me that in the fifth month they would set me up for testing. That is all I know at this point. What about you? Cheryl

Just ate....
I am glad you are at goal. But I am sorry what you are doing is not right. Laughing about food and making outrageous comments are ludicrous on this site. I see no humor is this attitude. I will stick with the posts that are legitimate and truly on here to help themselves and others. How fast you forget how you felt when you were first seeking help! Cheryl

Not to be rude but you guys need to start your own site because you are not in the right place or mind. I cannot believe you would go as far as surgery to help you lose weight and then play around with this as if it were nothing. You are taking chances on your lives! Are you not willing to do anything to help yourselves? Personally I am reading lapband talk to keep motivated and find ways of helping myself before surgery. I only would pray that I will do exactly what I am suppose to do to help myself get my health back again. I sure hope you guys wake up and decide to do what you started out on the day of surgery. God has blessed you to not have any problems yet but you got to help yourself too. Good Luck to all of you and may God be with you in the future. Cheryl :confused2::biggrin::thumbs_up:

Pre Surgery Questions
I would like to know if any of you started a diet early to try and shrink your liver for surgery. I would like to go ahead and do that even though I haven't had an appointment with the surgeon. How can I get access to this? Also, does insurance keep on paying for your fills?

need info
Where are you going to? I am also from Kentucky and looking to have this done at Central Baptist. I have Humana working for the state. They require you to do six months supervised dieting with your physician. You will need to get in contact with your insurance to make sure from the get go that you are following their guidelines. I cannot even see the surgeon until my fifth month into seeing the physician and they know that my insurance will pay. Cheryl

New to LBT from Kansas City
Why do you have to pay for your fill? Don't you have a good insurance policy through where you work?
-
Hello
How long did you have to wait from the time you saw the surgeon until your surgery? Which doctor did your surgery? I am looking at Weiss for Central Baptist. I have to do a six month diet first. I am going on my fourth month. That is so impressing about how well you have done. Cheryl

During the 6 month approval time for insurance...
Did you ever find out the requirements of the six month supervision diet? How far are you into this journey? I have scheduled my fourth appointment for next month. Where are you interested in having your surgery? I am looking at Central Baptist. Cheryl

roller coasters and rides?
Do you remember how bad you wanted the lapband? Why take a chance on doing something that will do harm to you and a chance you might have to have it removed for a minute of thrills. I am not a doctor but I am a mother and she would not be telling you this if she didn't believe it. Just think about it the jerking and turning upside down you know that will take a big jolt on your body. I know a lady that rode the roller coster that had a cap on her tooth come off and her bra strap broke from the force. I would really think twice or call your doctor before taking a chance. There are other rides you can enjoy! Whatever you decide to do have fun. Cheryl

Why is weight loss so slow?-From a newbie.
Whether or not we lose fast in our fifties we will have all that loose skin and that is what I dread. Plus, people tell me I don't look my age and losing weight will age me but I want to be healthy and that is a small price to pay. I have a friend who had the lapband in February and she is in her forties. She has lost 65 lbs and her cholestrol has gone from 261 to normal. Her doctor took her off her medicine she had been taking for 10 years and she feels great. I can't wait! Cheryl

More than one procedure
Just curious to why you would want your tubes tied so young. Do you already have children? But as far as your question I don't believe any doctor would opt for that. That would involve two different types of surgeons and the hospital would want to have money for two times. I may be wrong but I don't think so because its all about how much money they can get from us. Cheryl

Humana Insurance (I work for Depart. of Education)....What's been your experience?
Does it have to be the same doctor? I went to my gynecologist in March and we discussed my weight and lap band. He said he would send me a support letter. It was in his chart that he had spoken to me. I wonder if Humana would consider that one appointment and then I started in April and had appointments in May, June with my primary doctor. I have another appointment July 25th. My BMI is 46.9 how long does it take to get approved? I just want to get this lapband started and be healthy. When is your surgery? I have also chosen your doctors. Do you see both of them? I will be going to Central Baptist. Cheryl

Humana Insurance (I work for Depart. of Education)....What's been your experience?
I am so glad to hear the news. I have been worried that they will want more than the doctor's weigh in and notes. Kings Daughters told me that Humana requires you to see a dietician every month too. Where are you having your surgery and who is your surgeon? I had my third visit yesterday and remembered that I went to my gynecologist in March and we talked about weight and lapband. He was all for it and had written notes on it on his chart. I think I will be able to count him too which will make it four visits. At any rate they told me after I have my fifth visit and schedule my sixth appointment they will schedule me to see the surgeon and have my psych, labs, etc. I will also have to have a cardiac check up because I have severe sleep apnea. What kind of test did they do on your heart? I am 55 years old. Did you have to have a pulmunary function test? Cheryl

Hate Jumping Through Hoops
Do you have Humana? I have read that you don't have to lose a significant amount of weight they just are interested in the physician documentation that you have gone there and recorded your weight and been discussing weight loss and exercise. Who knows I think they are just assuming that alot of people will just give up and they won't have to fool with them. Cheryl

Humana Insurance (I work for Depart. of Education)....What's been your experience?
I also work for the state with the board of education in Kentucky. That is what Central Baptist bariatrics says. The Primary care physican talking to you and weighing you every month for 6. Ashland Kings Daughters says you have to see a dietician every month too. I called Georgetown to ask this lady I have been speaking with and she said no all I had to do was see my physician six times. Cheryl
-
How much longer do you have?
I have a question. I have Humana insurance. I have spoken to two Bariatric offices and one says I have to see my PC doctor for six months talking about dieting and weighing me. Then I will see a dietician, psychologist, at the fifth month. The other office says I am suppose to be seeing my PC doctor and a dietician every month. I hope they haven't done this wrong and I have to start all over again. I am going with the one in Central Kentucky who says I only need to see the doctor for six months and the dietician once. Cheryl

Have first appointment with doctor 6/17
Yes, I have a daughter and son who keep reminding me of the dangers of this surgery and can't understand why I can't just exercise and diet. The oldest daughter is all for me having this surgery. It makes it hard when everyone isn't backing your decision. Cheryl
-
Oh....excuse me!
How long does it take for this insurance company to approve someone after the 6 month supervision dieting and all the testing? Cheryl

Did your insurance approve your surgery?

It's Done!! I'm Banded
I am concerned about my cousin who had the lapband surgery Tuesday, June 10th. She is still in the hospital due to being nauseated. Did any of you experience this problem? I am doing the six month diet for insurance purposes and will probably be having my surgery in the fall. I am getting a little aprehensive now. Cheryl
