December Bandsters
Sweethot, I know what you mean about feeling like I broke up with food. Everyone around me is enjoying these great foods and just the smell is driving me crazy. But, I am not physically hungry. I think the swelling is causing enough restriction right now that just the Clear Liquids are keeping me from hunger today. Still, I want to get to the point where I see food and and don't give it a second thought! Anyways, 2 days post op and healing up just fine. Still some pain but most of the gas pain is gone and I'm just sorta sore. Honestly the gas pain right after surgery was worse than any of the incision pains. Hope everyone else isn't having as much problem with the dang Christmas goodies I am. Everyone is so giving with FOOD this time of year!!! This is the first Christmas season I dread hearing the doorbell ring because I know its another plate of goodies I can't have. Oh well, I'll survive!

10 hours post op and some quick questions!!
Hey guys, thanks for all your help and advice. The leg pain is gone thankfully. I really think they were just in an awkward position or something after surgery but no pain left in them now. Walking really does help too- my gas pain is mild but every now and then it starts to start up a little so as soon as I walk I feel much better. As for the apple juice, I ended up emailing the dietician at the surgery center (got a reply in 20 minutes woohoo!!) and she said that they'd really like me to stick to only see-through liquids and I should use things like Isopure that already come premixed and still clear. Oh well, on Saturday I start fuller liquids and can use my Protein powders and stuff then. Again, thanks for all the info!!!

Am I hungry or full????
Okay so I was banded yesterday but so I'm confused. I'm on clear liquids right now, but here's what's happening. When I drink like 1/2 cup of liquid within a few minutes time period, I get this pressure feeling in my chest and I hiccup a couple of times. Well this is what I've heard people on this board describe a stop feeling to be like. However, I thought clear liquids go right through the band and don't stop? The strangest thing is that while I'm feeling this pressure I can simultaneously feel my stomach churning and feeling empty, and feels like I'm really hungry. I'm really quite confused....anyone else experienced this? Am I hungry or am I full?!?!?

10 hours post op and some quick questions!!
Hey I have some quick questions (quick cause the gas pains are quite uncomfortable and I don't want to be on the computer long). 1. I added some unflavored Protein mix to my apple juice but it made the mixture a little thicker. Is this ok or should I not worry about protein tonight? 2. Did anyone else have leg pain? My calves are sore like I had leg cramps but my surgeon checked them and said it was no problem, so I was just curious. 3. Gee I had more but I need to walk or something now. But if you know the other answers, please let me konw thanks!!! Oh, an update on my progress can be read at findingwhisler.blogspot.com

What went through your mind the night before?
My big day is tomorrow!! I leave for the hospital at 4 am, just 7 hours from now. I can't believe it's finally here! I really thought the closer I got the more scared I would feel- but honestly right now I just wanna jump in the car and drive down there!! Unfortunately hubby doesn't want to sleep in the hospital parking lot until the surgery center doors open....What's with THAT!?!?! :speechles :speechles jk.... Thanks to the seminars, the research, the books (Laproscopic Adjustable Banding by Jesse Ahroni and Weight loss surgery for dummies) the support of those around me and of COURSE the awesome people here at lapbandtalk.com!!!! I feel nothing but excited and prepared..... Thanks everyone!!!! How did you all feel?

Christmas brings bypass and lapbands together....
It's a Christmas MIraCLe!!! :faint: Last night we went to a Christmas party and I overheard a woman (gorgeous model type) telling someone else she'd had gastric bypass a few years back. I sidled up to her (with my plate full of Christmas goodies) and confided that I was having lapband in 2 days. We ended up talking the rest of the night. We were talking about the emotional aspects of weight loss and she has just totally been there, done that. Afterwards we exchanged phone numbers and she told me to call her anytime I was freaking out with food issues or something. AFter wards I was telling my mom about it and she asked "So do you wish you were getting the bypass instead?" I was like, "No, but I'd pay 30 grand to look like her ANY day!" Oh well I'm looking forward to looking like a better version of me at least! It was just nice to connect with someone who understood so perfectly, and just because our surgeries were different, we still had so much in common as far as reasons behind our choice. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Question for the ladies...
Mine have always been on the smaller size. Even with all this weight I've gained it's really been concentrated on my belly area and without a good pushup bra they're practically non-existent. I often wonder if this is due to my hormonal problems....all the other women in my family are perfectly endowed. Bummer for me. I told my hubby that after I lose weight I plan to have them pinned back up to where they should be- so basically I'm expecting that they'll sag. I really don't like the look of faken's (personal opinion only, not meant to insult anyone) but I wouldn't mind having a perky pair for the first time in my life!!! Hubby claims he doesn't like the look of fake one's either. I have chosen to believe him and leave it at that :biggrin1: :biggrin1: !

How long at the hospital everyone?
To add more info, my doc said its rare for his patients to have to stay overnight. Also, I'm the first one of the morning so by 8 am I'd say I'll be in there.

Why no make up???
ok I understand. Without trying to sound like too much of an idiot (too late prolly lol) can I leave my toe nail polish on?
-
When does no drinking during/after meals start?
Cause first you're on an all liquid diet, so obviously it's not then. Do you wait until you are on solids? Mushies? Pureed? Just wondering. Thanks!

Why no make up???
I keep thinking of all these little questions with surgery right around the corner lol....Please humor me, anyone know why my surgeon says not to wear make up for surgery? I hate not wearing makeup.....thanks!!!

How long at the hospital everyone?
So about how long were you in the hospital for from admittance to release with this surgery? I have mine on monday and I'm trying to figure out approximately what time to tell my kids I'll be home. Thanks!

Dr. Phil tomorrow with Sharon Osborne
I heard her say something about having problems with Acid reflux as well. Overall I got the impression she felt that the band was masking her eating issues not curing them- and she wanted to get behind the reason and try to maintain her wieght "on her own". STill, she certainly could have been more specific about the WHY question....I guess with her money though mb its not a big issue to take it out since if she decides to put it back in its just pennies to her. *shrug*

sleep apnea
I am about 90% sure I have sleep apnea. I told that to my surgeon at my pre-op consultation and told him that I hadn't had the study done but I also don't have insurance right now (BECAUSE of my weight btw). He said that about 80% of the people with obesity have undiagnosed sleep apnea and being a bariatric surgeon, he just takes that in to consideration and takes the same precautions with everyone. He also said that's one reason they require that after surgery you have a support person who can be up awake watching you for 24 hrs following the surgery because of the affects of the anesthesia in relation to sleep apnea. *shrug* makes no sense to me why some docs want PROOF that you have it or don't- when they could just take the necessary precautions anyway. That's one reason why I like my surgeon is his office is clearly geared toward those who are obese. No one makes you feel bad about your weight, the nurses he hires often are lapbanders themselves, and even the chairs in his office are oversized. Guess I'm ranting, others may have more of an idea of why proving it is so important. I don't....good luck to you!

No liquids required! Cool!
I heard that while some doctors swear it makes a difference, not every doctor thinks it is significant enough to matter. My doctor just wants me to stop eating and drinking by midnight the night before. I have been much more in tune with my body's hunger/satisfied signals, as well as increasing my Water intake. Other than that its business as usual for me. Good luck!

Surgery next Monday
I'm a monday-er myself! I see you have been losing weight on the pre-op diet. I think that's great, if you've been able to stick to that enough to lose some weight then looks like you are able to tackle the head hunger as it comes. Hope everyone has a quick surgery and little pain on Monday!

Just got done yesterday
Congrats! I have mine scheduled for Monday. I hope mine goes as smoothly as that. Good luck on your journey!

Clear liquids post op?
I just came across this post from last month, but I was interested because I just learned this for myself. My doctor said that anything other than clear liquid will make your stomach do its normal churning, and that any movement of the stomach in the first few days can disrupt the healing of the band/placement/stitches. Clear liquids go right through the band and are quickly absorbed without the stomach having to churn to digest it. That's how I understood what he was saying anyway! Good luck!

What exactly IS a little bite?
Thanks for all the visuals guys! I think the baby untensils are a great idea, and hey I already have them on hand. I just realize that right now, my bites are HUGE compared to this so I'm going to be really paying attention now. Thanks again all!

What do you think of Walmarts Drug program???
Okay so if you haven't heard of Walmart's new generic drug program here's the deal- some of the most common prescription generic drugs (300 of them) are now being sold at walmart for 4$ for a 30 day supply. When I first heard about this I wondered how all those "little pharmacies" are going to compete- or will it put them out of buisiness as well.... HOWEVER my husband adn I have been without insurance for 2 years now. He's been working construction and we couldn't qualify for individual insurance because of weight and health problems. Well, now he's got a new job that offers insurance but it is 25% of our monthly income!!! So today, as I looked at my budget and realized our cash flow is pathetic thanks to Christmas this month, and desperately needing to refill two of my meds, I called my pharmacy to ask if they could offer me a lower price. They said no and quoted me $189.99 for the two medications. So I went to walmart and battled the lines and traffic and left with the meds for $8. That certainly helped me out this month. What do you think of their new program? What consequence do you see coming from it (good or bad)? And WHEN is our whole messed up health system going to be FIXED!?!?!? Thoughts? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=546834

What exactly IS a little bite?
I know after surgery we are supposed to take little bites and "chew, chew, chew." But I realized today that maybe I don't know what a little bite is? :o :o

Freaking Out!!!
Hm. In hearing that (and having no idea where he got that information from) I would take it from a different point of view. First of all, people who have been morbidly obese at some time in their lives likely have some health problems resulting from that that are unfortunately not reversible, the damage is done. Secondly, since people who are overweight don't always lose all their excess weight when they try ANY type of diet or surgery to get it off, those left over excess pounds can still cause some health problems. Lastly, I think as banding becomes more popular and well-known, people will start knowing about the band sooner, get it done younger, and perhaps have less co-morbidities and problems prior to it. That should statistically raise the life expectancy rate. That said, as soon as I'm banded I am going to try to pay it off as quickly as possible and be saving my money because I do KNOW there are no guarantees and I may have to replace it someday. Basically, the info doesn't scare me. Heck Until I got approved for the band I didn't know if I would make it to age 35 let alone 65! I'd love to be able to hope for another 30 years beyond that!!!! (Though more is always better

PCOS Bandsters (pre and post op)
Josette this sounds soooo much like me! Thats the thing about PCOS, it doesn't just cause fertility problems, it wreaks havoc on every part of your body. Sometimes I feel it has stolen my femininity. I am hoping to start feeling that again as I lose weight! Wow, that is soooo encouraging! VERY interesting!! As I prepare myself for surgery I have FINALLY started to see the scale go down for the first time in years....slowly...the only change I've made is eating less and not denying myself of things I am cravingm and not beating myself up emotionally after I indulge a bit. Maybe its when our bodies and minds are finally connecting and when your mind is saying "I want this" the body is saying "okay but just a lil" that things can finally fall into place. Just a thought. Keep up the comments!!!

any one in utah want to talk
In the pack at the pre-op class I was given samples of a clear liquid protein drink called Nectar. I tried it but it's difficult to swallow and I can't imagine myself living off this during the clear liquid days. I need to hurry and order something so its all ready to go. Looks like they also suggest isopure, beneprotein and things like that. Have you guys used them and which ones did you like? Thanks!!!
