  1. I do okay on the treadmill. Today, I walked for 30 minutes at 3.0 on an incline of 3.0 That was fine. It just seems like if I try to do anything more it all goes to hell...I guess I'll have to be patient. I did just start this last week.
  2. Nesser - I LOVE it.... I'm going to print it! "If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you're right."
  3. YES!! I am on day two of liquids and yikes! I hear that the first few days are the worst so I am fully expecting it to get easier...are you doing a preop diet?
  4. Sort of. I used to actually work in a gym and was very fit, worked out daily and sometimes more. Okay, that was 10 years ago. I don't know where to start now. I can walk on the treadmill or with my dogs but how do I build up? I tried getting on the elliptical machine...haha 2 minutes in I was huffing and puffing with a side ache. I used to stay on that thing for an hour!!! Any ideas on how advance beyond walking?
  5. Okay, day two. So far so good. I had a protein shake and 3 T of thinned cream of wheat, I think I'll do the same at lunch...I'm thinking of mixing like 1-2 T of cream of wheat into my shake instead of eating them seperately. Then maybe it'll just "stick" around longer. Oh, I've also found that sugar free fiber tablets help ease the hunger a bit too!
  6. Me too - Omaha, Nebraska
  7. Well, I made it! I did mess up a little. When I was feeding my toddler dinner I just popped a piece of broccoli in my mouth and down the hatch. I wasn't hungry at the moment and didn't think about it either...just popped it right in like I normally would. I think the calories in a bite of broccoli is like 3-5 so I'm not too upset about it but it is strange to see how I just eat and don't even realize it.
  8. You guys are wonderful!!! So far so good, it's only 2pm though. I had a shake this morning before church...we went to my parent's house after church and they had egg bake, toast and strawberries...I sat with them but had my chicken broth. About an hour ago I was so hungry and telling myself "some people can have 3 oz of chicken or fish...maybe I can too" I quickly pushed that thought out, had two tablespoons of thinned cream of wheat(which is on my prescribed diet) and am feeling MUCH better now. Well, 1/2 day down... 9 1/2 to go!
  9. Marisa - You are doing wonderfully!! I am on day one of liquids and wow, I had no idea what REAL hunger was! After church we all went to my parents house. I sat at the table with my entire family drinking chicken broth. They had egg bake, toast and fresh strawberries. I was fairly impressed with myself, I even cut up some strawberries for my 17 month old. I can't wait to be past these first couple of days.
  10. Thanks...I hope your call comes soon!
  11. ...and I have to say I'm a little nervous. I only have to do it for 10 days but geesh, if this was going to be easy, I wouldn't be fat in the first place!! I feel very confident that I won't mess it up or cheat, it's my nature and strong will to follow through. I'm just a little nervous though. I know hunger isn't going to kill me but it does make me uneasy, like many of you - food is a comfort to me. Well...here goes the security blanket! Wish me well.
  12. I have to say I disagree with the "presumptuousness" comment. As a nurse myself and being married to a physician I really hope you know that doctors or any medical staff for that matter are NOT perfect and do NOT know everything. I trust my doctor, as each of you probably do but if there ever arose a situation where I doubted information that I also had researched, I too would question it and probably get a 2nd opinion. That is just being proactive. No one is going too look out for you, like you!
  13. I left it up to my doctor although I researched both. For me, it came down to the fact that I have trust that once he sees my insides, he'll know which will be best. He thinks he'll use the realize band. Basically he told me that larger people tend to have a "thicker" stomach and the old band is more rigid so is better for those situations. It's less likely to slip. The realize band is wider but more pliable and he said it may be a bit more comfy and less likely to cause food to get stuck. He said at my weight, I am a good candidate for either. I told him to hold off on deciding until he takes a look inside, lol!!

  15. LOL!! Me either, but hey - progress is progress!!!
  16. Hmm, I might be the only one of us having to do the 10 days of liquids?? I'm so ready that I just feel like "BRING IT ON!!" We'll see how I feel on Sunday, lol!
  17. It's certainly up to you. There is nothing wrong with requesting they not come. Maybe you could ask them to come at a different time - after the surgery, when you get home, once you've been on the mend for a day or two or whatever you are comfortable with. This isn't about them. Tell them you are uneasy and prefer to visit with them after the surgery but not before.
  18. Me too!! I'm scheduled for the 23rd in Omaha at 9:30...I have to be there at 7:30!
  19. My doc said I could resume the next day
  20. Ugh...mine got moved too!! Just from the 16th to the 23rd though. My surgeon is going to Aruba, at least he'll be relaxed and refreshed when he does my surgery.
  21. Here in Omaha, my surgeon does all of his fills/unfills with fluoroscopy and they are $150.
  22. I'm not a smoker but my surgeon stated at his seminar that he would NOT band smokers. He requires a blood test before surgery to verify that you have not been smoking and will cancel your surgery if it comes back positive. In addition to the above reasons he listed high incidence of stomach ulcers with the band. He said that you aren't ready for the surgery if you're not willing to make the sacrifice.
  23. Amazing! Keep up the good work.
  24. Just a little info to help ease your mind... 70-99 indicates a normal result 100-125 indicates PROBABLE(further testing required) impaired fasting glucose or prediabetes 126 and higher indicates PROBABLE diabetes According to the American Diabetes Association you must have 2 separate tests to indicate an actual diagnosis of diabetes. There is also a glucose challenge test which requires fasting then consumption of a glucose drink with blood testing 2 hours later(like they do when you're pregnant). As far as cholesterol triglycerides can be falsely elevated even if you have eaten fatty/fried etc foods during the couple of days prior or if you weren't fasting at the time of the test. Your liver(if you aren't a drinker or have a history of hepatitis etc) is probably fatty. I know all of this is alarming, and it should be. However, you are being proactive in your health and the testing was done BECAUSE you are making good and healthy changes in your life. By losing weight and making healthier choices in food and exercise you are changing your fate. This certainly is an eye opener but at this point, it is reversible. I wish you the best on your journey!
  25. I didn't exactly have one either but I have a huge fear of my daughter remembering me as her "fat mommy". She's only 16 months and I am confident that I can change that idea in her head before she is ever old enough for it to last...
