I had my surgery on Wednesday 1/20. I'm down 9 more lbs in 5 days...54 total from my heaviest. My post op diet is going great. Getting in my fluids and I haven't had any issues. So thankful!

I think some people have food funerals so they can justify one last food binge.
With few exceptions, most people can (only speaking for the VSG) can eat all of the same foods they did before. Just in smaller quantities and for certain ones, a lot less frequently.

my maintenence phase vacation meal of red velvet pancake and bacon, before and after..I filled up faster than I thought. Yes- there can be a VERY RARE splurge, no need for food funerals. Wish someone had told me this before hand.

I'm on day 2 also, and am having the opposite experience - i'm sorry yours is going so rough! I am doing a lot of walking around - it really helps a lot with the gas pains (helps to get rid of the gas, I think?!). Others have suggested using Gas-X strips (might also make you gag) which helps with the gas. I found that burping after each sip seemed to help.
I asked about why I was having no issues compared to others, the doctor said it's just that for some people, the swelling from the surgery just goes down faster, which makes it easier to swallow.
As far as the gross tasting meds etc - all I can suggest is suck it up and do the best you can for now - it will get better, and your meds can only help you get there faster!
the mantra I keep hearing: is sip sip sip walk walk walk
    it works!

There are other good, tastier, choices for Protein other than Protein shakes.

I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went well. They did find and repair a small hiatal hernia. I am feeling way better than I expected I would. I am just thirstier than I ever thought possible. Fortunately I just "passed" my swallow test so I should be getting a drink any time now. If all goes well I should go home later today. ???? Sending positive vibes to my fellow 1/18 sleevers!

IrishGermanRN reacted to stoley8 in Anyone with successful weight loss with the gastric sleeve that had NO success with the lap band?
I too was a failed lap band patient. My initial loss was like 60 lbs but mostly because I had problems eating or drinking. Everything would get stuck and I developed a hernia and stomach problems. I was stuck on soft foods only and they tried filing the band a few times and finally gave up and unfilled it. Vomiting was always on the menu. In the end, my surgeon removed the band along with my gallbladder. In the years between the removal and my gastric surgery I gained almost 100 lbs. which was 40 more than I had previously lost. I've had my gastric sleeve since 9/22/2015 and have lost 86 lbs so far. While eating is a learning curve again. I have not thrown up after every meal. I am trying to get as much Protein in as possible as my hair has started falling out (this is normal). It has not been too hard getting rid of old habits such as sweets because they tend to give me a headache and make me slightly uncomfortable. This is becoming a total mental game for myself as I am not being cheated out of anything by having the gastric sleeve. I am making better food choices not just out of necessity but also because food is a fuel not a lifestyle. For years I lived with using food to soothe my ills and everything that went wrong in my life. The only place food as gotten me to was almost 400 lbs. Now, I am choosing a new path where food is a necessity and not a destination. Remember any weight loss surgery has its ups and downs and is only a tool to use in your own journey. Walking past a piece of cake before would have been unheard of but now, I can walk past it because it is just sugar and wasted calories. Yes, it does still taste good but after two bites your body has already had its fill and you no longer taste it. We were just conditioned to eat it all. I had to learn that my over eating was not going to help any starving children in another country. Now, the one thing I need to get rolling on is exercise. I tend to be lazy in that department, however, with now having more mobility I try to make a more conscious effort to walk more. I know shortly I will have to step it up. Good Luck to All!

I was banded in 2012, lost only 25lbs. I yoyo'd for the next year with fill/unfill repeatedly. In 2013, they couldn't find anything wrong with the band but went ahead and unfilled the band. I gained over 75lbs before doing revision in July 2015. I am down 96lbs since my revision and no complications.

I just found them..lol Anyway, I'm almost 2 weeks out now (tomorrow I'll be 2 weeks) and I am better every day. I have not been too emotional. Just kind of nervous I think was more the word. No regrets now and yes I am very very excited. Good luck to you!! Please let me know how you are doing.

I had the sleeve after a lap band and I can tell you I have went from 264 to 197 in a little over 6 months . Surgery pain was easy compared to my lap band. I walked 2 miles the day after surgery. No way I will ever be able to put the weight back on that I had. Appetite and cravings are under control. My brother in law had bypass and has put all his weight back on - you are doing the right thing do your own research. If I can help contact me because I am a huge advocate for the sleeve. Here are my changes

Look up gastrectomy. They have been doing them on ulcer, cancer patients and wounded war vets long before weight loss surgery. You can live without a stomach entirely. Removing part it all of the stomach and people still living long lives was known long before they decided to do it for weight loss. The surgery concept itself is not new at all. Large numbers of people being so fat that they need surgical intervention is.

I'm on day 2 of the liver shrinking diet. I lost 5.2 lbs in 1 day!!!!! We'll see how it goes tomorrow. Eating 2 Protein shakes, 1 fruit, yoghurt or ff cottage cheese and dinner of 4oz lean meat, green vegetables and 1/4 potatoes. I'm hungry but noticed if I delay eating to later in the day that helps.
2 days down and 11 days more to go!!

I was sleeved 1/13/16, so I'm just 4 days out. Recovery has been rough, lots of pain/soreness and a couple of days of nausea. But today I've finally turned a corner it seems, still sore, but not nearly as much as I was. Definitely had the thought, "What did I do to myself!?" more than once, but that's passing now.
One thing I was so shocked by is the fact that I lost 30 POUNDS on my 2 week keto/3 day liquid diet. I still can't really believe it. I'll have to wait until my follow up to really see if that was the case, and I just wasn't standing on the scale incorrectly ???? If not, it must be because I started at such a high weight (470) that it came off much faster than normal. I'm starting to feel like my normal self again and feeling much better about everything. I'm excited to get the ball rolling!
Got some pretty bad Constipation, but that started with the keto/liquid diet so the pain pills didn't help. Took some milk of magnesia a couple of hours ago and hoping it does the trick.
Word of advice: if your toilets at home are particularly low, do yourself a favor and get a seat extender/hand rails. I was in excruciating pain trying to get up without using my stomach muscles.
I've been getting about 48oz of Water in spread out through 12 hours, but Protein shakes is another thing. It's too much sweetness. I don't feel any restriction so I'm wondering if that is normal during the liquid phase? Any one have any advice on that subject?
Anyways, hope this helps people with surgeries coming up. It's not all roses and it's NOT easy or fun, but it DOES get better each day! ????
