I had the same issue with spicy foods too. My hubby does most of the cooking and at first he cut out all spices. Then he began slowly adding things back into the cooking at around the 5 month mark. He did things like cumin and coriander and turmeric at first then added chili powders, and cayenne pepper. At 10+ months I still cant tolerate what I used to, but I at least have most of the flavors back that I like.

Same here, although it does seem to be getting better. The hot stuff leaves me feeling a bit queasy.

I agree, it sounds like you are dehydrated. You should be drinking lots throughout the day leading up to working out, not just during a workout.

Hey there @3283 The most important thing is: It's your race at your pace. Take your time. Start off slow. Walk if you need to. Do intervals if they help. Get some good running shoes for a running store where they test you. The shoes are expensive but worth it. Listen to your body. Last, have fun.

Someone else here on the forums actually suggested it to me. The type of sugar in Gummy bears is processed very quickly and quickly elevates blood sugar levels the same way the special tabs that diabetics take do. I was getting dizzy immediately after working out. Eating just a few gummy bears would make me feel better very quickly. But obviously, don't overdo it. They are pure sugar and empty calories!

Definitely drink a lot more. I also found that my blood sugar dipped really low after cardio, so I literally started eating 5-7 Gummy bears after each workout and that helped!

It is because you are dehydrated. You need to hydrate before during and after you exercise. Also appropriate stretching before and after along with a cooling down regimen will help as well.

For as much as people complain about "chemicals" and "toxins" in their food, they are awfully quick to buy into another set of meaningless dietary buzzwords like "natural" and "clean," trading one ideology for another. People are also so quick to dismiss doctors who underwent 11-14 years of education/training/residency, and dieticians/scientists who devote their lives to the art and practice of nutrition as "Western Medicine" ignorants and corporate fatcats. You are free to make your own choices, but "instinct" and "intuition" doesn't mean you somehow possess secret, ancient knowledge beyond the scope of the medical profession.
Doctors advocate Protein, which comes in the form of Protein shakes (not dead animal flesh, I couldn't start feasting on adorable, defenseless animals until two months out). High Protein can be done on non-meats, however they often require a higher quantity of consumption (which puts stress/stretch on sleeves), and the cost/inconvenience/familiarity/cultural preference often has people going with a grilled chicken breast over a complicated veggie casserole that often contains more starch/carbs than it does protein. A meat-heavy diet is not doctors failing to understand the basic tenets of veganism; it is a matter of function and convenience, because those are the most effective ways of maintaining a long-term plan. In a range of studies, 75%-84% of vegans/vegetarians return to eating meat, so doctors are reluctant or resistant to advocating it to patients who are already experiencing extreme stress and an upheaval of life.
Wanna go vegetarian? Wanna go full vegan? Find that you function well deviating from the typical post-OP plan? Awesome. More power to you. But don't come in here peddling ideological beliefs and anecdotes in food/medicine as legitimate science or die-hard fact. "Healthy" food companies are just as quick to capitalize on your fears (and typically spend big money to put out misleading news articles and pseudo-science articles to take your money).
Next time you go to Whole Foods, check out the box of the next Natural Organic Non-GMO* product. Pay strict attention to the asterisk. It is usually accompanied by a disclaimer that there is no benefit to consumption as measurable/detectable by scientific study.
As a nurse with a strong background in nutrition, it's great that patients are empowered and invested in their own health. But fact isn't something you "believe" in. It exists regardless of what you think or not. So please think twice before you advocate for belief versus well-supported science and trash an entire profession as people that just don't understand your high and mighty, esoteric plane of consciousness.
And with that, I'm going to go eat some more salami.

It was the Vitamins in the Meal Replacement shakes that gave me the runs and feel nauseous. Protein powders without extras I do much better with.

There are other forms or Protein you can drink aside from shakes... but they are not a meal substitute.. like Isopure or the New Whey protein shots.. Neither of them taste very good to me, but maybe you can tolerate them.

Hi. Sorry I am just seeing this. I had severe diarrhea the entire time I was on Protein shakes (I tried several different kinds). Pre op and post op. At my 2 week post op appt my doctor advised me to stop the Protein Shakes altogether. I am not lactose intolerant or allergic to them, my body just wanted nothing to do with them.
Make sure you talk to your Doctor. There is no reason to suffer thru it. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm going to be honest I smoked up to midnight before my op! I like you only smoke a few a day, however I would advise not going my route I had no complications and healed well but you will want to be at your best health wise so giving up will be beneficial in so many ways.
Wish you all the best x

I agree. Rather than slim fast, try premier. I also like GNC Lean shake 25 (made with water).
The only shake I would make with milk is the carnation Breakfast essentials no sugar added. The rest I make with Water.
You might also want to try Syntrax nectar.

I wouldn't use anything with that high of a sugar count myself. You can look into unflavored Protein powder that you can add to foodstuffs like Soup and sugar free pudding. That might help.
If it's any consultation a lot of people have issues with the shakes this early out. I did too, but now at five months out I tolerate them much better, and always have some on hand. I even kind of like them.
    Good luck!

I am two weeks out of surgery, and on liquids for 6 weeks I can deal with all my liquids apart from protien shake, I have tried it with Water and milk and I end up either feeling really sick/tired and dizzy or making a mad dash to the bathroom (no.2). It's really getting me down as I was told to get at least 60g of protien and my protien shakes makes for 48g of that. My nutritionist said I could use slim fast but I'm not sure as each bottle has only 15g of protien but like 26g of sugar? And surely this would be detrimental to my weight loss.
If any has any suggestions to how I could get protien in I would be super grateful x

I take citalopram, I am about 9 days out after surgery I took my last tablet(30mg) the day before surgery. I have a follow up in 2 days and will ask if I can take them, for the purposes of weaning off, cause doctor advised going cold turkey will eventually have withdrawal symptoms.
You have already "gone cold turkey"
If you were going to have what we call "discontinuation syndrome" (which is similar to but much unlike "withdrawal" experienced with other meds/substances) it would have happened by now. Now what you may experience is return of symptoms. Citalopram is an SSRI and as such it helps you to build your own levels of serotonin, and it does this over time. Stopping it will cause a reduction in your own levels of serotonin eventually. Will it reduce enough to cause your symptoms of anxiety or depression to come back? Who knows, it may or may not. If you want to see how you do off the meds it would be reasonable to stay off it as you have already been off for close to 2 weeks by the time you see your doc.
Unfortunately most primary care docs don't really understand how all of these psych meds work (unless they are a psychiatrist). They have basic knowledge and are told that many of them cause "withdrawal" symptoms. Many do, but the pure SSRIs are much less likely to do this compared to the SNRIs like Effexor or Cymbalta.
If you feel good and are not having anxiety or depression now and want to try staying off, ask your doc about that. Going back on just to wean off when you have had no symptoms of coming off is not really needed. What I would add however, is monitor your mood/anxiety closely. Depression and panic can creep up and before you know it you are miserable. Keep an open dialog with your doc in case you need to go back on. Good luck!
