kaitlynm got a reaction from nickiechell in Sugar free ice cream?
I have a sleeve so this might be different, but I make sugar free ice cream all the time. I use half and half, almond milk, oikos triple zero Greek Yougert, and eggs for the base. Then I use stevia and a variety of flavorings. I add 3 scoops of unflavored Protein powder. It has 22 grams of Protein per serving. My favorites are Peanut Butter where I add PB2 powder, and chocolate almond using crushed almonds and coco powder.
This way I get ice cream and meet my protein goals.

kaitlynm got a reaction from CelesteMarie in I need to do this, no matter what
Hi Mico
I wish you well on this journey. I think you are doing the right thing by having the surgery. I too have always been good at getting the exercise in, but could not keep the weight from coming back each time I lost. The exercise will help a lot with the weight loss and emotionally too I think.
You sound like you are a perfect candidate in that you eat only at meal times and do not do the grazing or snacking so much. The sleeve will help you control how much you eat so gone will be the days of eating a whole steak. I used to drink a lot of wine as well but have really not had that hard of a time giving it up. I still have a glass here and there, but gone are the days of drinking 2 bottles in an afternoon.
I didn't get a lot of support from my family and some of my friends either. You have done the research so you have to follow your gut. I just don't tell anyone anymore that I had the surgery, and wish I had told fewer people before.
Good luck with your decision. Hope to see you on the losers bench soon.

kaitlynm got a reaction from rdharri in What do you know now that you wish you knew prior to surgery
For the hospital, definitely bring Chapstick and stock up on it because you will need it all the time. Same with lotion for dry skin.
I also bought way too much canned fruit, Soups, and broth for the early stages. Just loaded up a big tub of it to give away.
Get rid of all junk food before your surgery. If it is not in the house you will not be tempted to eat it. My surgery was right before Halloween and I had to buy candy for the kids. Turned out I didn't have any and that candy kept calling to me until I threw it out.
My recovery was really easy with almost no pain. So I can't think of anything special that you need for that.
Emotionally, you need to prepare that this is not a diet, it is a lifelong journey. You will never be able to eat like you once did, and it can be a struggle every day. Be sure to have hobbies or other things to fill your time. I'm the most hungry when I'm bored. It is head hunger, but is hard to get rid of.
Start exercising NOW! Just walking if you don't currently exercise, but get moving. It will help you recover quicker from surgery and it will be a habit by the time you are pre op.
Good Luck! I'm sure you will do fine.

kaitlynm got a reaction from Dub in Any Oct 6 Sleevers out there?
I don't think the juice is a good idea. You need to stick to Protein. All the carbs in juice will just make you crave it more. My Doc said to avoid juice for the rest of my life.

kaitlynm got a reaction from SunnysonsMomma in Stigmas
People who think WLS is the easy way out don't get it. It still comes down to eating healthy at a drastic restriction and working out for it to be successful. Someone made the comment to me this weekend about the pounds just melting off and it makes me mad. The pounds are not melting off, I'm working extremely hard to lose those pounds. She doesn't even know I had surgery. To me the greatest benefit of the WLS hopefully will be the help it provides with keeping it off.
Just ignore what other people say. It is your journey and you should use whatever tools you have available to set you up for success.

kaitlynm got a reaction from CelesteMarie in What's it like to lose 100lbs?
I've lost 90 so far and looking forward to hitting that 100 lb mark. I still have 55 to go. I feel much better physically because of working out and less weight to carry around, but I still don't feel skinny. I think I will feel differently after loosing 25 more. Then I will just be over weight and not obese. I do notice that I look more like many people out there today, but that doesn't say much given the obesity rates of Americans today.

kaitlynm got a reaction from KeepCalm in Getting Called Fat After WLS
I do body combat at the gym everyday. You get to picture anyone you want in your head and then pretend to hit and kick them for the next 55 minutes.
I guess your company must not have the required sensitivity training videos that we have to watch each year. Come to think of it it doesn't always prevent people from making those comments anyway.

kaitlynm got a reaction from OKCPirate in Science: How reporters get it wrong
Perfect for describing all of these scientists studies we have been seeing recently. I love the comparison to the childhood game of telephone where the baby is actually made of chocolate.
I still remember when red M&M's caused cancer.

Young - 52
Dumbass - definitely
Now that ive calmed down a little... its actually sad.. that we as a society are so focused on size.... yes i am chubby... but for a fatty... i can outrun any of my little tiny friends at the gym... im active and confident... thankfully... so to be judged is kinda annoying
