I eat 3 frozen grapes every night instead of ice cream. I feel indulged and have still lost 45 pounds since surgery on June 7.

I was the same way. I did have vomiting, but in the hospital from the anesthesia. I felt I could eat and drink way more than I needed. A few weeks/months into it it got better. I still feel like I can eat more than I need. I was worried for the longest time that my doctor didn't actually do the surgery.

I tried soda after my surgery (a doctor ordered me too on 2 separate occasions) I could only take 2 sips before I felt.weird and bloated. I'm glad I felt that way because there have been times that all I want is a big ole coke.

So, I had a long hard conversation with myself over the concept of "wasting" foood one afternoon after fussing at my kid for not eating over half her lunnch.

If you eat it, it's gone.
If you toss it, it's gone.
    Either way, it's gone.

If you don't NEED it, don't eat it. If you don't want it, don't eat it. I got FAT because I NEVER "wasted" food. I would shove in the last few bites no matter how stuffed I was. I would eat the leftovers even if I wasn't hungry before I'd throw them out. I'd finish the last chicken nugget from the kids' lunch even if I'd already eaten. A cold fry in the bottom of the bag? Not wasting that hard chewy morsel of fat.

Both my kids are slender and healthy. Why? If they don't want food, they simply don't eat it. Even if it means *gasp* wasting it. Hmmm... Interesting concept.

By not wasting food, I wasted 20 years of my life being 80-120 pounds overweight. I wasted a lot of knee cartilage. I wasted a lot of trips to the dunes and the amusement parks and the mountains because it was a tough walk. I wasted opportunities to ride horses and jump out of planes because I didn't want to tell people my weight.

Yeah. Waste the dang brownies. Your victory was SO much better.

Here is an interesting article about the relationship between exercise addiction and eating disorders.
It also has a nice look at the difference in diagnoses and treatment between an addiction and a compulsion.

lifeofblair reacted to MayMarie in Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
My dad had surgery about 4 or 5 years before me. At one point he asked me if I had ever thought about it and gave me the binders from his surgeon's program. That's the only time we had ever talked about it. I had thought about surgery before that and thought about it for a few years after but I was pretty young (19 or 20) and it didn't seem plausible at that point. I had surgery at the beginning of the year, a few weeks before my 24th birthday.
Only you know the relationship between you and your daughter. A one time, "have you ever thought about it?" probably isn't going to hurt anything and is your safest bet if you feel like you have to initiate the conversation.

I wish my mom supported my WLS sooner. I know I would have been upset though if out of the blue she said I needed it. I knew she had it when I was 16. But I'm glad I had it at 23, just wish I had done it when I was 18 or so.

I've heard you can take pre made shakes if it's medically necessary (not positive though) might want to get your dr to write a note for it.
Yogurt is usually easily found, so you can always buy some when you get to your destination.
