October 6, 2005
Lapband Surgery Date was October 6, 2005, starting weight before pre-op was 230 pounds, surgery day weight was 222 pounds. Very nervous and questioning my decision. I was suppose to do all clear liquids for 7 days and I only did it for 3. My surgery was very successful though. I was up and walking that night because I made myself. I know from past surgerys that the quicker you move the faster you recover. The week after my surgery was the toughest. Everyone was eating and I couldn't, I was really starting to regret my discision and mad at myself for going to this extreme to loose weight:confused: My port area was very sore and my shoulder was sore.

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble
I took 2 little bites of steak saturday and kept it down, I had tuna friday and kept it down. I had a couple of bites of sloppy joe for lunch yesterday for lunch and kept it down. So I am thinking I am o.k. Although it is definently not a comfortable situation at all.

Nightmares
I keep waking up in the middle of the night with horrible thoughts about the band, I wake up suprised that I actually have it, even though I have had it for 4 months and I am loosing weight. I then lie awake thinking that I hope I have not caused harm to my body in the future, like what kind of affect will this decision cause me when I am forty, hopefully I will feel healthier then ever. I just had my second fill and now I am starting to get heart burn and acid reflux again. Which is the exact reason I was thrilled about getting the band because that all stopped after the surgery. I don't like regrets, I just wish I could stop waking up in the middle of the night about it, I'm kinda loosing sleep. Anybody else have that problem?

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble
I tried the warm liquids this weekend and it did help a bit, the slim fast does give me a little trouble in the morning, it takes me over an hour to drink it. The one thing I really slacked on was Water intake. I am really going to try to work on that this week. The good news is that I haven't thrown up since last Wednesday. I have been much more careful. Thanks for the advice.

I just do not understand this
I wander how accurate those kind of scales really are? You lost inches and that is what matters.

Help! I'm a lap-band failure...
The only thing about drinking something hot is you are not suppose to drink a half hour before you eat? So do you drink something hot an hour before you eat, I know when I am tight it takes me a half hour to drink a cup of tea.

Calling The Band-Less: Hospital Stays for Band Removal
Is it true that you still feel some restriction after the band is removed?

Help! I'm a lap-band failure...
Taking deep breaths help me, and streching, my daughters always ask me what I'm doing when I sit up straight and stretch out, it seems to help.

Skin Advice
Someone suggested that I put this in this section, so here it is, I found this info in another forum I visit and I think it is good advice. 1st of all, make sure you are taking good care of your face. Lotion your face with a quality facial lotion 2x daily. I use Mary Kay or the Oil of Ole' products. Make sure you clean your face and defoiliate before you apply lotion. Stroke your face in the right direction to support the facial muscles instead of tearing them down. Also learn how to do facial exercises to help build the muscles back in your face. The lotion helps keep the skin supple and the exercises encourages the skin to stay tight. Next make sure you are doing some weight lifting. Some sources believe that when a muscle group is worked, it triggers the skin to tone. Lotion your body as well to help keep the skin supple. I hate putting on lotion, so I use the Oil of Ole' mosturizing body wash. It has worked well so far. Third, take some supplement(s) that help the skin to maintain or regain it's flexibility. I take Colostrum which is "suppose" to help maintain and improve the skins flexibility. As well as increase engergy etc etc. Also, it is also believed that the slower you loose the weight, the less flab you will have. The skin has more time to adjust. In another board I participate in, people have said that the flab will decrease with time. Some plastic surgeons refuse to do surgery until you have maintain your weight for a year. This is for a couple of reasons: 1) if you start regaining the weight after the surgery you can get into trouble quickly, 2) it is felt that it takes a year for the skin to adjust. Forth, if all else fails, the national burn center will sometimes pay for the operation to remove the flabby skin, as long as you donate the skin to the burn center for use on burn patients. I call that a win/win situation. I am not sure what the guidelines are for qualifing for this program, you may want to keep it in mind. I am doing what I can to minimize the flab, understanding that my sister who has never weighed more than 110 pounds in her life has flabby arms and legs<g>. I figure that 1 year after getting the weight off, I will decide what to do then. Keep your chin up, don't let it sag

Be Prepared!
I keep peanut butter, crackers and oatmeal at work at my desk. I keep a slimfast and lunchmeat in the fridge at work.
-
Life without huge bowls of rice a roni?
Peanut butter is awsome, you may want to start with smooth, but crunchy doesn't even bother me if i chew it well, I can't eat meat but I can eat crunchy peanut butter! sometimes this thing (the band) confuses me.

Life without huge bowls of rice a roni?
I totally know that the band is different for everyone, I just had my second fill and meat is not my friend, but I can eat pringles with dip. I don't do that very often though because I am trying to find other ways of getting my Protein, which pringles lack. (to bad) So i am eating lowfat cottage cheese, Peanut Butter, slim fast for Breakfast because that is all I can handle in the morning. Those things taste pretty darn good when your hungry! It hasn't been easy, but fitting into sizes that I have been trying for years to get into has made it worth it.

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble
Pb daily for 2 months? that will definently make me consider a little unfill, i don't want this for 2 months. Pb is productive burp right? if it is just a productive burp and not throwing up, then that wouldn't be so bad. right now i am craving a big hamburger. thats something i probably won't have for along time.

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble
I had chili last night and for some reason I didn't think it would be a problem, i was way wrong. I couldn't keep it down, so I ate crackers and Peanut Butter later. My biggest concern is getting my Protein, so i am eating more cottage cheese, peanut butter, slim fast with protein and milk. I am going to try the hot tea thing though. Thanks

What does everyone do for a living?
I am a field assistant to a supervisor on a construction sight. I work in the office on sight and I love it. I also do computer work for the St. Louis Foster Care Coalition on the side. I work with all men and I have to be careful not to pick up some of the bad language.

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble
I had my second fill 1/26 and I can keep most things down, like tuna or oatmeal, or crackers, but then if i eat regular meat, i throw up. even very chewed chicken that is soft. I ate tuna salad the other night and that was fine. should I be concerned or is that normal, I am really restricted in the morning, i can barely drink my slimfast, but then i can eat lunch slowly.

My port area hurts today
I woke up today with my port area hurting today and I am wondering if i should be concerned or could it be from sleeping on my stomach and maybe just sleeping wrong? It's not real painful but pretty sore.

grrrrrr I can eat so much food
The only restiction I have right now is that I have to chew my food really well or i feel sick. It takes me a half hour to 45 minutes to eat a sandwhich and fries or whatever i'm eating. I know i shouldn't be eating that but I only eat it once in a while. By the way, I haven't weighed since my fill but my clothes are fitting great and i am getting compliments on how i look. thats better then what the scale says at this point

First PB today
I know how you feel, I had my first problem on wednesday when i was so hungry and i went through mcdonalds drive thru and i got a small hamburger and a small fry and i took one bite of each and i got so sick. 6 weeks after the lap band and that is the first problem i have had, i had my first fill 2 weeks ago. i threw up in the bag where the rest of the food was. i should never eat drive thru when i am so hungry. i don't think i chewed it at all.

BMI too low (posted on intro as well)
I had a 39 bmi and i had acid reflux and diebetes runs in my family. My insurance almost covered it 100%. I was 215 the day of my surgery. It wouldn't hurt to try to get your insurance to cover it.

I had my first fill and I can eat to much
I am tanning because I am going to Florida for Christmas and since I've lost 20 pds already I think a tan will make me feel even better. I try not to tan to much because I don't want to harm my skin. I know the band is a tool but I am just surprised that I am able to eat like I am, it is just not expected thats all. I also was filled to tight and I spit up the sip of Water that I took so they had to take a little out. I think my next fill in January will be more effective. The good thing is that I can't eat just like I used to, I mean I used to get full if I was in the mood and now I wouldn't dare get full, I only eat one helping instead of two. So the band is still working but not as much as I thought it would.

I had my first fill and I can eat to much
I had my first fill a week and a half ago and I am able to almost eat a full meal as if I don't have the band! I don't understand why I am able to eat so much. I have started tanning, does anyone know if maybe that is not good for the band?
