Correct, lots of people go through the same thing. All I can suggest is that you do some of your getting-ready tasks each day until the day before you go to the hospital. Keeping yourself occupied with the small tasks helps to stay focused not on what's making you nervous, but on being a capable and competent adult taking care of the small, necessary things. I'm not suggesting that you're not capable and competent, but sometimes nervousness makes us feel lost.
Example, tomorrow buy some of the Clear liquids or whichever types of liquids you'll need for the first days back at home. Buy more the next day. The day after, do whatever else, etc., etc.. Pack your things for the hospital the night before. On the morning of surgery, change the sheets and towels. You'll appreciate having fresh bedding and towels when you're home again.
Before my lapband surgery I was worked up enough with all the pre-chores and when I'd have to stop taking my regular meds and stop eating and what I'd have to do each day right after surgery, blah blah blah. A couple of weeks before I bought a large sheet of oak tag (do people still know oak tag?) and made a calendar with magic marker. Then I wrote in each day's needs/type of liquid/soft foods and more. Lots of silly details. It helped only slightly in a practical sense (e.g., when to switch from full liquid to soft foods), but it did soooo much to keep myself occupied. I was a good and happy puppy filling in my great big calendar. It was like arts & crafts in 2nd grade.
I could have said everything in a few words: Play whatever little games with your head that will get the result you want.
    You'll be fine. Promise.

My surgery is scheduled for Monday. I can't think of anything but the surgery at this point. I can't pinpoint exactly what is making me anxious. It's just the entire thing!!!
I'm excited too however. But I can't even work haha! I'm pretty sure many of you are experiencing the same thing or something similar. How are you dealing with it?

I would hardly call once a week an addiction? So someone who has a glass of wine or a beer once a week is addicted? Your ignorance and prejudice about Marijuana is showing....

I'm such a worry wart. It makes my anxiety worse when I'm hearing so many different things. Ok I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing. I'm not the surgeon. He is.

I'm a big advocate for trusting that your surgeon (and medical team) knows how best to prepare their own patients for surgery and get them through the aftermath as well. Surgeons tend to vary from each other and I think you'll get exhausted if you conduct an internet referendum every time your team does something a little different from what you may have read about online. You trust this person to cut open your body cavity and perform major surgery on one of the most important organs of your body, so I say trust them that they know how their patients should prepare for it. Good luck in your surgery!

The learning curve is different for everyone. Some people get overwhelmed by all the info they receive from the medical team. Some people want to hear real life experiences from other pts. Depending on the program and situation some self pay patients honestly don't know. Coming here for some is an attempt to get educated. My own rule of thumb is when the questions start to feel redundant, that's a post I need to skip.

First follow up today. Everything looks good.
The hiccups are most likely a signal to stop eating or drinking.
Milk is probably causing the gas pains. (Once lactose intolerant, always lactose intolerant.)
My inability to swallow the foul concoction the hospital sent home with me for reflux isn't a dealbreaker -- if I can swallow a pill, I can take that route.
And yes it's 100% true: NEVER trust a fart.

So helpful... I guess the Protein makes up for all the extra food you don't buy lol. The clothes shouldn't be so much. I have tons of them from when I was smaller. I guess I hoarded them lol. Thanks again!

I don't have specific numbers but some categories for you to think about.
Supplies and Tools: If you don't have these on hand already, you'll need a good kitchen scale, measuring utensils, storage containers, etc. shaker bottles, Water bottles, etc. are helpful.
Vitamins and Supplements: You can shop sales for good prices.
Food: Your food budget will probably decrease, especially if you have been in the habit of eating out a lot. Fresh, healthy food can be more expensive, but you will be eating less of it.
Protein Supplements: Not cheap, but the per-meal price is reasonable when compared to meals. Also, look for sales. It's also a good idea to try samples before buying in bulk.
Clothes: Many folks shop at thrift stores while losing, but depending on what you have on hand and what you need, for work, etc. this can add up. I haven't started yet, but I have thought about saving for when I reach goal. I would love to be able to invest In new wardrobe and a personal shopper or style assessment at that time.
Gym/Exercise: I joined our local wellness center. If you join a gym or Y there is a monthly fee. I also hope to buy a bike when I am able to ride. Some people buy exercise equipment, etc. I swim, so I need to buy new bathing suits periodically as my size decreases. Workout gear, shoes, etc. are expenses you may need to include.
Rewards: If you plan to reward yourself, then you will need to include this in your budget. Mani-Pedis, massages, and even trips make good rewards.
Hobbies: As I regain mobility and energy, there is so much I want to do. I want to experience life. This is something else to save and budget for based on your needs and desires.
I hope this helps a bit. Maybe someone else can answer your specific question.

I am very excited about this new journey. I have dealt with obesity since a little girl. My weight has fluctuated throughout the years. I have been struggling with PCOS and I have been prediabetic since I got out of high school. I just turned 24 in October. This is the heaviest I have been in my entire life and I'm just sick of it. A few months ago, my primary care physician asked if I considered WLS. I said "absolutely not". I thought about the question and kept it to myself for a while. Few days later, my father asked the same thing... I said maybe it's a sign. Maybe I should look into this. That was 4 months ago. Yesterday, I scheduled my VSG surgery ???? I am beyond excited and glad I had a change of heart. I wish everyone the best of luck on their own journey and I will share my story with you all. ????

Best of luck to you in your new journey. I wish I had done this YEARS ago...it was one of the best decisions I have made for myself. Right now I'm about 80lbs lighter than I have been in decades, I can walk more, do more, and it feels great.
